As a woman of science, I am an unabashed, agnostic atheist—until I meet my first angel. Aziel, with big, beautiful wings, claims he's here to stop humanity from being annihilated. Sounds impressive, but I have questions.
Full of arrogance and demands, he wants access to my life's work while blaming me for the coming apocalypse. It seems my innocuous signal seeking life beyond our galaxy succeeded. Someone heard my invitation, and now the world is in grave danger.
At least according to Aziel.
As I get to know him, I find myself reevaluating everything I thought I knew. More surprising than my sudden belief in religion, though, is my irrational love for an overbearing angel.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
I can truly say that this is the first book I have read that I hated the heroine. I normally like Eve Langlais books but this one was not my favorite. Horrible characters with cheesy lines just did not work for me. Aziel was okay but everyone else just seemed petty or had personal issues. Try and see what you think but this series is not for me. Happy reading.
Aziel comes to Earth in his space ship with others. He's one of God's warrior angels. They came to Earth after intercepting a signal that Lilith and her teammates sent out from her lab. Aziel needs to find Lilith right away and get her to stop the signal before anyone else can intercept it and find Earth. They are most afraid of Hell finding the signal and coming to Earth because that would be catastrophic.
But Lilith is a scientist and she doesn't believe Aziel when he says he's one of God's warrior angels. But she's curious about him when he shows her some things and then she's convinced he's just an alien from outer space. So she gets him back to her lab and double crosses him so she can study him. She sent out a signal to attract alien life and now she thinks they have answered, she's not going to miss the opportunity to study one.
I found this highly improbable that she could have used human drugs on an angel to knock him out. But it happened. It just wasn't very believable to me. There was a lot of talk of God, a lot of preaching, a lot of looking down on the humans because we don't believe in this god or follow his commandments. Therefore if Hell does come and invade, God isn't going to save us because we're unworthy. They mostly just want the Suul that is left behind when a person or living thing dies. Elyon (God) uses Suul to create life on other planets. So the fact that Earth has so much of it makes us look really good if they can stop Hell from finding us. If Hell does find us they will decimate the planet and all living things as well. Because Hell has ravaged so many other planets they have many more demon soldiers than Elyon does so they can't fight the demons to save any planets the demons want.
The storyline got better over time as I read but it starts out really slow. Things start looking up when a great twist is brought out and Lilith and the other scientists find themselves betrayed. I started to enjoy the story a bit more then. There was a lot of backstory which I liked so we understand what brought the angels and demons to Earth and how but the preaching and looked down on because we don't follow this god's commandments was a bit much for me. There was a bit of a romance between Aziel and Lilith but it took a while to take off. I did end up liking the book enough to read it until the end though.
Aziel offers an intriguing premise, reimagining angels, heaven, and disappearances through the lens of aliens, blending tech, space, and Christian rhetoric. The initial skepticism of encountering a supposed angel—trapping them rather than blindly believing—was a highlight, as it felt more grounded and relatable.
However, the story’s execution fell flat for me. It quickly shifts into a paranormal romance with an enemies-to-lovers dynamic: the kind where antagonism equals attraction. While some may enjoy the feisty back-and-forth, it’s a trope that no longer works for me.
The protagonist, described as middle-aged, initially intrigued me. But she’s almost immediately rejuvenated to appear younger—undoing any sense of representing a true midlife heroine. It felt frustrating, especially for readers hoping to see a woman of that age unapologetically as the lead.
At just over 200 pages, the book also feels too brief to fully explore its premise, and the Christian overtones often jarred against the sci-fi elements. While the concept is compelling, the execution left me disconnected and underwhelmed.
A surprisingly small amount of smut for such a trashy book.
I need a new scale for rating trash books, since we all know you can't really rate them on normal metrics. I'mma try this one: Trash Book Scale: Take No-shit FMC: 5 Did each chapter have me giggle at least once: 5 Smut scene that left me tingly: 3.5 Banter: 5 Length: 3.5 Total: 4.4
No really, I loved Lillith. I feel like anytime Goodreads is like "most annoying FMC" I almost know for a FACT that I will love them. I only hate the whiners. Too badass for her own good? Oh no? Not another role model.
The banter, specifically the religious banter was absolutely hilarious that I don't think I stopped laughing the entire book. I literally almost missed THERAPY thanks to this book. Alas. would've been worth it.
Could've been longer, just so we could have some more smut scenes spinkled in but that's just me. They were short, sweet and to the point but I'd be damned if I didn't say that they were at least well-written.
First let me say I love love love Eve’s books and I love a strong woman character however I hate the way scientists thinks There is so much science cannot explain but they refuse to admit that there are other superior forces out there! It shouldn’t have mattered who can literally give you an outer body experience where you see your death but the fact that you had one and afterwards have literal evidence of the event that other people can see and you still doubt everything!!!
Also I hate that even in the real world scientists take everything they find and want to dissect and kill instead of freaking ask but yet want to claim “earth” rights in the same breath.
I’m sorry but this one is too close to real life issues regarding science and God
The character got on my nerves You still think you’re smart by human standards but are constantly proven wrong throughout the entire book.

I love this author with her paranormal twists, humour and irreverent stories. This book is a new series but I really struggled getting into the book and finding the usual humour in it. Can only say it’s the first time I’ve never taken to one of the leading characters but omg I absolutely disliked Lilith to the point that nothing she said or did added value to my reading experience. She was like a spoilt brat who only saw the world her way. Needless to say Aziel and his fellow Angels carried the story for me and I only tolerated Lilith the last chapter of the book. It’s a good story just the character of Lilith spoilt it.
At first I was like " You gotta be kidding me lady!" then I thought about it. Would I believe a guy that showed up with wings saying he was an Angel.. .. maybe I'll really know the answer by book 3.
Oh yeah.. The review. Lilith was a little annoying , AT FIRST, then as the author delves into the thoughts of her logic it wasn't so bad. I'm used to reading flimsy plots in romance, and endure for the sake of the steamy scenes. This book was a little lacking on both ends, but by the time I was finished I was intrigued. Maybe things will come together as I go through the series.
That was simply fabulous! What a unique and interesting take religion, with everything seeming familiar, while still being fresh and different. Add to that the scientific elements, and I seriously couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. Aziel and Lillith are such strong characters, it really was fate that they would end up in each others orbit and have an attraction. This was a fantastical read and I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next in this series <3
I made it to about chapter five when I threw in the towel. The sci-fi/religious twist just wasn't for me. I thought, similar to the Guild Hunter Series, the angels would be aliens, who had been to our planet previously, sparking some religious mythos or something, but nope....These characters are alien angels of God on a mission to protect his/her creations from demons...It is a twist, I just didn't enjoy, but to each his own
Good book I enjoyed reading this book. The concept of angels coming from outer space is interesting. I like that Lilith is a strong heroine. She’s all about technology and an atheist. It’s interesting how each time Aziel shows her god exist, she has some scientific explanation as to why and how it happened. I enjoyed watching them develop feelings for each other but would’ve liked more of the romance side of the story. This has lots of action and good plot.
This author's use of the known Heaven and Hell characters meeting in our modern world testing one woman's faith against science was exceptional. Angels are still capable of emotions, and devils are operating in all areas of our lives. Good and evil, love is still ruling. I enjoyed seeing how a brilliant woman who had stopped believing was able to finally see the God in the world and in herself. I will continue the series.
Angels are aliens- ok. But come on, couldn’t the two love interests have at least a tiny spark of chemistry. This story felt like it was missing a huge chunk in the middle. Most of the book they dislike and don’t trust each other and then boom it’s the end of book and they are banging.
This new series begins with beliefs, curiosity, danger and betrayal. Lilith is determined to contact other worlds using technology that she invented, but she was not expecting what answered her call. Now Earth is in danger. Wow!
This was so trite and thin, it’s not worth it. Thank goodness it was free. Sexy angels is a pretty easy trope to get right. This one fails. Thin plot, shallow characters…ugh.
Her books in the Toxic Dust series were great. I didn't feel the same connection to the characters in this one, especially the angel. Probably challenging to write an angel. I'll read the next with high hopes and see where this goes.

Liked the sci-fi aspect from the blurb but found out very quickly there was just too much religious/god referencing for my liking. The MMC just spouting stuff a priest would say to me as a child…no thanks. I’m good.
Meh. I loved the concept and was really looking forward to how it would all play out but for Aziel to just all of a sudden at the end of the book say that he loved Lilith and that they had a connection made no sense.

You'll want to slap the crap out of the main characters before you finish the book. A different approach to religion kinda fun. Can't wait for the next.
