David "Dav" Pilkey (b. March 4, 1966), is a popular children's author and artist. Pilkey is best known as the author and illustrator of the Captain Underpants book series. He lives near Seattle, Washington with his wife, Sayuri.
3) Captain Underpants is here to save the day. The collection has many stories of Captain Underpants saving the day by defeating the bad guys but the twist is he is also a teacher!
4) The series is captivating especially for boys. I would have some of the series in my classroom library. Students will have the benefit of reading from a different style of text plus the humor!
5) In class uses: - Students may create their own comic strip. -Creative writing lesson
My kids love these books, and that makes me love them too, but my kids are young, and they don't need to be reading books with misspelled words, so that's why I give this book 3 stars. It gets 5 stars otherwise.
Miss 3 has devoured Captain Underpants at bedtime each night! She loves reading these (and the movie too!).
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I learned about Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey when I was teaching Grade 3. One of my very bright students was laughing out loud during our silent reading time! I had to investigate. It was not until I had children of my own that I bought the whole collection (as they were released). Reading them aloud together we chuckled and giggled, sometimes so hard, we cried. My son has read them all, not just once, but many times over. I would highly recommend them for boys, especially, aged 7 - 13. Bewared: a lot of potty humour, but beyond that: science, time travel, word play, comics, and just plain fun!
I avoided reading these books for a while - but I finally read them to Skyler to get him to enjoy reading more. I ended up loving them - they are so funny.
