Tudor Humphries is a an eminent children's book illustrator, landscape painter, wildlife artist, photographer, sculptor, and teacher.

In his own words: "I was born in 1953 and spent my childhood constantly drawing or lost in books, obsessed with mythology and aircraft. An odd mix but one fed my imagination while the other developed my drawing skills. I trained as a costume and set designer for the theatre and was deeply influenced by the lighting and drama of theatre productions which I wanted to reflect in the way I painted.

As soon as I qualified I returned to my first love, books and moved 30 years ago to the rural backwater of North Devon ... I spend as much time as possible out in the landscape, lookinfg for wildlife, drawing deep inspiration fronm the natural, atmospheric world around me. I've also always worked with and for children..."

In this picture book, we find a retelling of the class Lewis tale. This book has several illustrations that clearly illustrate what the author is saying. The picture book is an incredibly watered down version of the tale. It almost does it a disservice in my opinion, I would only recommend it if there is not enough time to read the actual novel. This book is rated for older readers (fourth or fifth grade) due to the complexity of symbolism and pronunciation of some of the names of characters in the book.

Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is both suspenseful and fun to read. It is a great book for ages 6 and up. It is a suspenseful story and has beautiful illustrations drawn by Tudor Humphries. On the end pages it shows a picture of Narnia in its snowy days ruled by the White Witch, and then it transitions into the sunny, green land ruled by Aslan the Great. The story is about four children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, that go through a magical wardrobe and into a magical land called Narnia. There the season is winter all year long—winter without Christmas. The children are told by a beaver and Mr.Tumnus, a faun that the only way the White Witch can be defeated is by the four children. During this time, Edmund the youngest brother ran off to find the witch and to get more Turkish Delights, which he had received the first encounter with the witch. This time Edmund was not so lucky, and he was captured. When Aslan finds out about this he goes to save Edmund and offers his life. The witch thinks that she destroys Aslan on the stone, until the stone is broken and Aslan is alive again. Aslan, Lucy and Susan go to the White Witch’s place and save all the creatures that the witch had previously turned into stone, which added more to the good army of Aslan. The army ended up defeating the White Witch and her army. Edmund broke the witch’s sword and Aslan finished her off. Once the war was over, Lucy poured her magical substance made from fireflowers on everyone that was wounded, including Edmund. The four children then become kings and queens of Narnia forever. The text and illustrations of this book were beautifully done. Without the illustrations, the book would be dull and readers would not be able to enjoy the story as much.
