The first time she saw him across a crowded room, she experienced the unmistakable pull of attraction. It was as though their meeting was fated - and so it was, by the horrible, bloody, and corrupt past of the magnificent Falcon family.
But although they were as perfectly matched as the twin points of a compass, their love was doomed to failure, unless he could throw off the chains of three hundred years and ten generations of lust and betrayal that shackled him to a past as ugly and savage as untamed nature. Either she would be the next victim of the Falcon family's insatiable appetite, or she would finally tame its obsessive drive for conquest.
Maureen Peters was born in Caernarvon, Wales, on March 3, 1935, and was married and divorced twice; she has two sons and two daughters. In addition to biographical fiction, historical romances, and mystery novels written under her own name, other noms de plume include Veronica Black, Catherine Darby, Levanah Lloyd, Belinda Grey, Elizabeth Law, Judith Rothman, and Sharon Whitby.
As Catherine Darby, Maureen Peters wrote books that were sold as Gothics, such as the 12 books in the Falcon Saga, but were really what Sarah calls "dark family sagas." Or more precisely, she describes their plot lines this way: "Themes of illicit passion, family rivalry, witchcraft, revenge, and even reincarnation permeated the novels…"
This book enchanted me when I was fourteen. Although the genre never held of much interest to me, this particular series of historical Gothic romances caught me and held me tight in it's grasp. The Falcon Saga books weren't Gothics in the traditional "girl in danger" sense, but rather dark family sagas. To each generation of Falcons one female child was born with a half-crescent moon birthmark upon her thigh. She would bear the powers of a witch and a curse to go along with it. It should be noted, these were not the happy ending romances of today. Would I even be able to read these now? Doubtful, but at the time I lived for every page.
The author was Maureen Peters best known as her pseudonym Veronica Black. She passed away in 2008.
