My 2-year-old LOVES lions and this book was great for that! It has crafted animals pictured on each page and if you look really closely you can see part of the lion hiding on each page (which my little guy loved looking for time after time).
How loud is a lion? I ask my toddler this each time he hands me the book. The best part, is when finish the book. We each take turns roaring as loud as we can. If you look closely, you can see parts of the lion on each page. I point to these out to my son each time we read and he always laughs.
I loved Clare Beaton's illustrations to How Big Is a Pig? so much that I checked this book out. While How Big Is a Pig? is about farm animals, How Loud Is a Lion? is about African animals. I liked How Big Is a Pig? slightly better, but my 16-month-old loved how every page ended with "Shhhhh!"
This is a fun book for toddlers which my preschooler just rediscovered and still loved. A fun tale about the different features of jungle animals, always coming back with "but how loud is a lion?". As with the popular song, all this commotion has woken the lion who roars loudly so you know just how loud he is. A fun extra is hunting for the bit of lion visible on each page. Great illustrations if somewhat dubious rhyming.
Thank goodness this book fell into my hands while I was preparing my story time about libraries and library behavior. It was just what I needed to liven up the story time, add interest, engage the children and then at the end slip in the notion that roaring is great for story time and outside but in the library we are quiet.
I love this book, it provides lots of good adjectives to describe all different types of animals and all the pictures are made from fabric cutouts. I think kids would like this book because it involves animal sounds and art content.
Loved the stitched felt appliqué illustrations in this picture book describing jungle animals. Could be a hit with little ones due to the repeated question, "how loud is a lion?" however, it got a bit dull for me.
