《妙峰山》一书是顾颉刚等人民俗研究论文的结集。1925年4月30日北京大学教授顾颉刚、孙伏园等五人，来到京西妙峰山对妙峰山庙会进行了为期三天的实地调查。调查之后，五位学者分别从自己所关注的角度，写成了对妙峰山庙会民俗的调查文章，并在《京报》副刊连续六期发表。作为首个田野调查地，妙峰山的民俗文化在1928年《妙峰山》一书出版后便受到了民俗学界的关注。中国民俗学学界普遍认为妙峰山民俗文化是北京传统民间文化，甚至是北方传统民间文化的一种象征。
