After many years of living alone in a deep forest, the devil has gotten lonely and decides to build himself a bride! Slowly he builds his ideal mate from the wishes he's granted to humans - a body, heart, words, feelings - but when he's finished, he ends up with a man - and a finicky man at that!
I don't even know where to start. First, I thought it'd be funny to get this from the library. First page, I was let down by the art. On some pages I wasn't sure if the characters not having feet was a stylistic choice or the really didn't have feet. The eyes being too big and the misproportion of the anatomy was just secondary, I could live with that. But despite that, the buildings and a lantern on one page was drawn alright? What is up with that? Then, the formatting of text was terrible. I don't know if the original was like this, but on some pages the text was huge. More of a problem was that some lines were written in so small I could barely read them. Then some was blocked because of the binding, because it was written too far on the side. Also it was funny that literally everyone was gay in this manga and that alyone who wasn't young and hot was drawn very ugly. But alas, this story, I can't deny that it was deep at some point. And that it had really heavy and dark themes. So in general it was interesting and definitely I wasn't bored. Maybe if I was a teen I'd give bonus points for the sex scenes. As an adult I was more concerned that a kid walked in on them. So overall, it was slightly better than I expected. Still not great, but I've read worse.
Manga, please avoid pedophilia. It's not cute. The basic story is that a devil is looking for a bride, the bride shows up and is not an adult, the bride dies, and the devil decides to rebuild the bride. But the soul is gone, so what's left is the body.
Of a child.
The devil is building himself a child bride.
Grossssssssss.
And we get a *lovely* chapter about a prince being raped by his father's soldiers as a prize for whoever kills the most that day.
It's horrible and exploitative and depressing and 0/10 would not recommend.
I love human-nonhuman relationships with an age gap like Rin and Sesshomaru. Where the older nonhuman saves the child from a terrible fate, it's really touching. Also, the mangaka's art style is some of the best I have ever seen!
It was a lot more sad and dark than her other manga. I didn't like the theme she treated here. Her art is always as beautiful as before and I love how she draws flowers.
