Ruth Sawyer was an American storyteller and a writer of fiction and non-fiction for children and adults. She may be best known as the author of Roller Skates, which won the 1937 Newbery Medal.
Ruth Sawyer, famous to storytellers and children's librarians, traveled to Spain in 1931 to collect folktales. She was enchanted by the friendliness and generosity of everyone she met, and it's fascinating to hear how willing everyone was to share an old tale. I'd love to see Mallorca, which she describes with great admiration, but I think it's likely not the same now...
