If you have a dream, then you have a destiny. In his inspiring new book, From Dream to Destiny, Robert Morris prompts you to ask, How do I travel from the dream to the destiny—and what happens on the way? Each of us is given a dream by God—it’s the notion that sets our hearts racing by the mere thought of it. Unfortunately, most people never see their dream come to pass, so they never fulfill the destiny that God has in store. Robert Morris tells readers exactly how to make their dream into the reality they long for. He uses the example of Joseph’s life in the Old Testament. God gave Joseph a dream and then promptly took him through 10 character-building tests that lasted 13 years. These tests assessed Joseph’s strengths and weaknesses—from pride to purity—and they are the same tests that each of us must pass before God lets us realize our dream. Find out what the tests are, if you are passing or failing them, and get ready to begin fulfilling the destiny that you have long dreamed of.
Robert Morris is the founding senior pastor of Gateway Church, a multi-campus church in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Since it began in 2000, the church has grown to more than 39,000 active members. He is featured on the daily television program The Blessed Life and hosts Worship & the Word on radio stations across America. He serves as chairman of the board of The King’s University and is the bestselling author of 14 books, including The Blessed Life, The God I Never Knew, Truly Free, and Frequency.

I so wish I had read this book years ago. I’ve only recently discovered Robert Morris’ ministry via You Tube & I learn something with every sermon! This is the first book of His I’ve read & it did not disappoint. Being at a crossroad in my life, it helped me to understand a lifetime of tests I’ve endured and helped me to realize I just need to remain faithful in my gifts and let God work out the specifics of my destiny. While reading, I felt convicted, encouraged, and reminded that God is always in control! Talk of a word in due season!
I love it when Bible stories are shown in such a way that you can use it in ordinary life. In this book the author tells you about ten tests that Joseph had to go through and that we will also have to go through in our lifetime. Talk about putting the food on the ground so the goats can get at it.
He made a point about living below your means. He said 10% tithe, 10% savings, 10% retirement savings, and something over that for giving over and above your tithe. He said that would leave you at 60-70% to live on. I told my husband that and he mentioned taxes. If your taxes are approximately 30% that leaves you with 30% to live on. We goats are going to need frugality for sure.
Quote from the book: “It is pretty obvious that Joseph had a gift of administration. While Joseph was a slave in Potiphar’s house, he organized the house and became the overseer of the hosue. When Joseph was in the prison, he organized the prison, and became the overseer of the prison. We don’t know much about the pit—but my guess is that it was the most organized pit ever! Hahaha! I got a kick out of that.”
I learned that God has dreams, purposes and a destiny for me and you. In order for us to realize them God needs to develop Godly character in us through testing and we need to be faithful through those challenges and struggles to grow into our destiny. It’s in the process of depending on, following, knowing, loving, and trusting God that we experience our destiny.
Through the story of Joseph, Pastor Robert shares the 10 tests that Joseph faced. You immediately turn inward and reflect on the tests that you face in your life. This quick read is powerful in how it helps you discover your own destiny.
This book was awesome and incredibly timely for the season I’m in. It takes a look at Joseph’s life and looks to the “tests” or trials he had to go through in order to get to his ordained destiny.
It will encourage you, it will challenge you, it will allow you to understand the why’s that you have asked God before and will bring peace to your life!
It’s a very elementary Christian read but so encouraging and outlines complex principles in a simplified way. Depending on where you’re at in your journey it might be overly simplistic.
"Whatever your purpose in life, it will be related to other people in one way or another." ~ Robert Morris, "From Dream to Destiny", p. 198
God has given everyone of us a dream and a destiny. This book examines the life of Joseph and how he started off with a dream as a young boy and then how God took him on a journey to fulfill that dream. Unfortunately, God had to take Joseph through specific tests before he could reach his destiny. Robert Morris explains the tests that Joseph went through in this book and how each one of us will require to go through these tests as well. These tests will build character in us and Robert Morris says, "it takes strong character to support big destiny".
Some of the tests that Robert Morris expounds on in this book include the following:
* The Pride Test * The Pit Test * The Palace Test * The Purity Test * The Prison Test * The Prophetic Test * The Power Test * The Prosperity Test * The Pardon Test * The Purpose Test
God has a plan for our lives and it is a good plan. A plan that we will enjoy. He has gifted each and everyone of us with gifts to help people.
There was some practical things missing from this book. For example, one of things that I believe is vital for fulfilling your purpose is defining your dreams in writing. If you study people who have fulfilled their calling and purpose in life, you will find that they defined their dreams in writing and made a written plan of how they were going to achieve these dreams. One of the best books that I have read on how to map out your dreams is in Steven K. Scott's book, "Mentored By A Millionaire". This can be purchased almost everywhere or if you don't have the money to buy this book, most libraries carry it or you can ask you library to order it.
There is no excuse for you to step into the destiny that God has called you into.
I have been blessed to have opportunities to hear, see and read many books on a Christian's Purpose and Destiny; so I say this with such intensity, no other book has profoundly influenced my walk in Christ (other than the Bible) to my purpose and destiny than Robert Morris's book "From Dream to Destiny". I believe every person who Believe's in Christ needs to read this book and pass it on to others. I believe we live in an area of Doubt, and we need to return to the Promises of Hope we have in all that Christ died to give us.
Heard Pastor Morris speak very powerfully and decided to get a book of his. Unfortunately the book read like a sermon rather than a well written book. In all, the book is Biblical but disappointing.
I was really excited when I first began reading this book. The excitement tapered off as I read more. I'm not sure if my mood changed or if the book wasn't quite as good as I had hoped it would be.
“Rereading this book today I was reminded that on page 194 the author writes “I can remember thinking that if I wanted to serve God, I would probably have to marry an ugly woman and move to Africa. How ridiculous! Now, please don’t misunderstand me—if you like moving to Africa and you like being married to an ugly woman, then you may be called to do that. But only if that is what you like!” This one paragraph definitely stood out to me in an otherwise good book, and so disappointed me.
