The idea of a Canadian Cold War thriller intrigued me enough to pick this up in a used book store. Published in 1990, it actually is set near the very end of the Cold War, though the author may not have realized just how near while penning it. In a classic twist of the genre the story appears to reach back to the heights of the Cold War and even World War II as the characters try to determine just who is who - and who is what. More of a mental exercise than a shoot-em-up with car chases and explosions, with plenty of surprises a long the way.
