In the year 2287, the United States is no more. In its place stands Tekano, a utopian society that seems to have solved all the world's problems. But as Amara Pierce, Secretary of History and daughter of the Tekano president, knows all too well, there are always secrets lurking beneath the surface of perfection.
Isa Adams, a Tekano Elite soldier, is the strongest and fastest in her unit. Her strength and skill are matched only by her stubbornness and the oversized chip on her shoulder. When the fate of Tekano is threatened by a group of rogue assassins fueled by their hatred for everything Tekano represents, Amara and Isa are brought together once again.
Their unforgettable romance was cut short by Isa's need to protect Amara, but when the stakes are raised, they must work together to save their beloved Tekano. With the help of time travel, they set out to find the rogue assassins and stop them from halting the progress of the technology that has enabled the Earth to survive climate change.
As they face danger at every turn, Amara and Isa must confront their feelings for each other and decide if their love is strong enough to withstand the challenges that lie ahead.

This book was released unannounced a couple of months ago and it’s not what I would have expected from either authors. I like when authors surprise me though, and when they try different things and genres. And these two work well together.
In this first book in a new trilogy, the world as we know it has disappeared, climate change has been managed, everyone lives in peace. At least in Tekano, the former USA. On the surface, a dream come true. Underneath, however, chaos threatens. Amara Pierce, Secretary of History and the daughter of the president, and Isa Adams, Tekano’s best soldier, are called upon to travel back in time and fix a glitch some unknown enemy has created in the timeline. Ten years ago, Amara and Isa, teenagers at the time, were everything to each other, until Isa decided otherwise. Now, they have to put a decade of grief and anger behind them and work together to save the world.
The time-travelling arc is great and I wish it was the main focus of the story. As it is, the second-chance romance is at the centre, and it didn’t work as well for me. Maybe because I find Isa annoying? Also because the MCs go from from barely speaking to each other to jumping back in bed together in a matter of pages. And I get that the end of the world looms over them and they don’t have time for what Isa would probably call details, but Amara’s turnabout was too rushed for me.
I look forward to spending more time in the world the authors created. I enjoyed the contrast between the present in which the story is set (2287) and the periods in the past. I hope this is what the next book, Interference, which should be released sometime this winter, will be about: fighting for what’s right, saving the world, learning from the past while trying not to mess with it irremediably… The tension and adrenaline that come with the feeling of impending doom is unmatched and the authors have set the perfect path for that. I’d happily take more sci-fi over more romance and the cliffhanger on which Glitch ends makes me think I might be in luck. 3.5⭐️
I received a copy from the authors and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the first of a new series by Erin Zak and Jackie D. The story takes place in 2287. Scientists have eliminated climate change, cured cancer and have people eating healthy bio engineered foods. And have successfully made time travel a reality.
MC Isa Adams is the a superior soldier and is ready to fight and die for her country. Her whole world involves soldiering, including giving up the love of her life. Amara Pierce.
MC Amara Pierce is the daughter of the President and is the Secretary of History. Amara has never gotten over Isa ending their relationship.
Now a traitor has caused a glitch in the climate control system protecting the planet. And Isa and Amara are tasked to travel back in time to 1962 and solve the crisis.
This was a very imaginative story with lots of twists and turns. Several cool inventions and a bunch of great side characters.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a futuristic action theme with a love story and a bit of heat.
Ever wanted a TV series where two lesbians from the future travel back in time to rectify a glitch that is occurring back in their own time all the while rekindling their love? You have? Well, here is the novelization of that series. In fact, like all good books, it’s even better than any not-real movie/not-real TV show. This book is great. No info dumps about how a droid operates and which wires make the eyeballs move. You get futuristic stuff and you just go, “Yeah, ok. Cool.” The back-to-the-future bits are full of tension. There are baddies and goodies and guns and lesbians kicking butt. And time jumping. There are messages in Glitch such as peaceful societies, harmony with the earth, anti-guns. It’s also very America-centric (oo-rah or whatever the sound is). I noticed this because I’m not a US person. But I liked the messages. And the speed. And the lesbians. And the baddies whose bums get kicked by the lesbians. You should read Glitch. It’s rather good.
Glitch takes place in 2287, in Tekano, a utopian society, that used to be called USA. Amara Pierce is the Sectratary of History, and the daughter of the President. Isa Adams is an Elite soldier and Amara's friend and ex. They must work together to stop a group of rogue assassins. Who hate everything Tekano. This is a gripping story, and a love that's forged throughout the years. I definitely give this 5 stars!! I was given an ARC of the book to write an honest review!! PS- I also bought the book! I can't wait for the 2nd book!!
I was pretty excited to read this book. It has a nice cover, at least one author I like (Zak), a good blurb and some rave reviews. What could go wrong? Sooo many things! At least to me.
For one, the writing, it’s eye roll-worthy. I don’t like quoting because out of context everything can look weird, but damn… some of it was so hard to read. I had to laugh and try my hardest to keep my eyes in their sockets. And it wasn’t an intended funny moment by the authors. I think where this book goes wrong, at least for me, is the focus. Instead of the focus being on the mission and the time travel, it’s on some sort of second chance romance. Lots of repetition, lots of telling instead of showing. The tension I was expecting isn’t being delivered with this book. The premise is incredibly interesting and I see the authors pulling some threads that could make it such a wonderful book, an amazing start of a series, instead it’s just another lame second chance romance… Nothing gets really resolved and talked about after a decade, let’s just hop into bed and declare our undying love. Talking about this, we start this book with a prologue, a decade earlier when our mains are ~16. Their puppy love dies and we get back when they are ~26. The biggest mystery in this book is why they broke up. It gets hinted at approximately 31083 times, it gets explained in one paragraph (and that’s me being generous). As said, the focus is wrong. The puppy love is picked back up and they do their mission. And I needed more of that, more of the mission, more of the time travel, more of their powerhouse mothers.
I went into this book for sort of dystopian futuristic setting with a bit of time travel and all sort of cool stuff, what I got was a badly executed second chance romance…
With all that being said, I might still try the second book… And hope for more of what I was expecting with this one, something you get in maybe the last 15%
Time travel, romance, a utopia under threat. An interesting combination, and there is definitely more to this story than it initially seems, the tale really starting to come into itself in the second half.
And I really enjoyed it. It's well written and engaging, the story taking turns that I didn't expect, and the romance between Isa and Amara is really adorable. They really are meant for each other.
But all is not smooth sailing, especially with the book ending on a cliffhanger (and the excerpt from book 2 certainly hints that that isn't going to change). Very much looking forward to the second book, and seeing where it all goes.
I would like to complain that this book ended and I have to wait for the next one!
I love lesbian romance and I love Sci-Fi. This was a well written and artfully crafted story that had me engaged from the beginning.
A big thank you to Erin Zak and Jackie D for this beautiful story with plenty of twists to keep the reader glued to the page. Hurry up with the Interference. Please!
2.5 It’s more romance than sci fi and the writing is a big no from me. The overall idea behind the plot is very interesting and could’ve been explored much better. Also: the Jokers? Really?
Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of picking up an independently written novel by either Jackie D. or Erin Zak will one hundred percent appreciate the above idiom. Of course, they are both outstanding authors in their own right, but put the two together and the storytelling catapults to a sublime level.
Set in a hard won future utopia, Glitch is a story based in Tekano (formerly the USA), a seemingly peaceful albeit uneventful place to be. At least that's what Isa Adams believes; a Tekano Elite soldier whose mother just so happens to be Tekano's military general. Despite years of hardcore training, Isa has only ever had cause to put her deadly skills to the test outside of Tekano.
A group of domestic terrorists who despise everything Tekano stands for soon puts paid to that, which sees Isa flung together with her ex Amara Pierce, the Secretary of History and daughter of Tekano's President.
Tasked with travelling back in time to save both their home and maybe even their future selves, an already arduous situation is compounded by Isa and Amara's complicated past; not to mention they haven't spoken to one another for a decade!
A specfic novel featuring the second chance romance trope, Glitch gets off to a fierce start and doesn't let up. From present day climate change issues and future solutions, to a time travellers view of present day racism, homophobia and gender inequalities - this story may be set in the future, but it casts an eye-opening net backwards into what would currently be a readers more recent history. What unfolds is a telling frame of reference for what our future could one day hopefully become.
I love that the authors started Isa and Amara's relationship back when they were teenagers, and that readers get to explore a decade old decision from two separate angles. When that decision ultimately culminates in heartbreak and lost time, the chances of Isa or Amara choosing to follow their hearts over their heads ever again seem remote. But sometimes the magnetic attraction between two souls means your heart has already written its own love story and you're just along for the ride.
Usually with a book that has multiple authors it isn't hard to spot who wrote which character, but with Glitch if you don't already know who has written each character, I'd doubt a reader would be able to guess. The authors have clearly worked hard to ensure the writing flows seamlessly between them, deftly mirroring each other on the page. This results in two main characters that resemble a well oiled machine; as if Isa and Amara were born of a single mind rather than two. In some ways Isa and Amara are pretty much polar opposites, but Isa's brash and over confident attitude combines well with Amara's more gentle and intellectual demeanor; creating a story which is at times as thought provoking as it is fast paced and action packed.
Needless to say, I am super pleased to discover Glitch is the first in the Static series!
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have been a fan of Jackie D and Erin Zak since they worked together on ‘Sweet Vengeance’ and was so excited for this collaboration. ‘Glitch’ is set far in the future, within Tekano, a society that has all but eradicated the problems that plagued humans in the 21st century. However not everything is serene and perfect as it seems as an unseen threat is altering the very timeline that led them to this moment. Amara Pierce, is the daughter of Tekano’s president and a historian and she will do anything she can to help save their way of life. Isa Adams, is an Elite soldier who has always surpassed her family’s military legacy to protect Tekano. These two women are the only ones who can identify and neutralise the threat by travelling to the past and stop any saboteurs to the technology that has aided humankind surviving through climate change. Both women excel in their own fields, they just need to put their deep rooted, personal feelings aside if they hope to succeed. This story is so original and plays to both writer’s strengths- Jackie D engages readers with high action dramatic sequences and a beautiful portrayal of Amara’s love of science and history. Erin Zak writes flawed but strong women that you cannot help but connect with and as always an honesty that can move you from laughter to tears. For me this is definitely an amazing example of where sapphic romance is moving into, beyond the parameters of genre to form exciting and fresh narratives. ‘Glitched’ is set in the future and in our past and yet makes readers ask questions about the very present state of the world. The most powerful books for me are the ones that absorb you fully into the story so much so that you relate it to your own life. Both of these writers have universal quality to their styles because ’Glitch’ is a thrill ride of a book that you won’t want to end but it also shows the timeless need for human connection. Amara and Isa are fierce individuals with their own emotional scars but when faced with the downfall of everything they hold dear they really have to evaluate what truly matters.
2.5 stars. I'll bump up the rating as it does a lot of fun things, but it's far from a spectacular book.
I think my biggest issue is with the ending—it comes out of nowhere. I don't mean the events are unexpected; I mean that the book just ends, right in the middle of the (rather rushed) climax. The book feels incomplete. I know this is the first of a series, but it simply doesn't stand well on its own. It's like the authors just lopped off the last quarter of a finished novel and sold the remains.
The characters are super cute, and they have pretty fun chemistry, though I don't think the "bitter exes" element was handled super well. Isa is an arrogant prick with a hero complex and I love her, and Amara is an adorable anxious mess.
The plot centers on time travel, and while the premise doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, it was a ton of fun to watch the characters explore the distant past—the 60s and 80s are a total culture shock to people from the 2200s.
I have a lot of problems with the utopian future. It feels much more like a pleasant fantasy than a functional society. And why on earth is the entire nation kept at a balmy 70 degrees Fahrenheit? Half the book is about the dangers of climate change, but the authors somehow thought a homogenous, climate-controlled nation would be okay for the ecosystem? Bizarre.
Anyway, it's a fun ride. If you can glaze over its issues, you'll find a lot of neat ideas and cuteness.
GLITCH: Book I of the Static Series Jackie D & Erin Zak New Release
The universe created by the dynamic duo of authors is out of this world. Their story is like nothing I have ever read before and it is truly remarkable. Although it is a sci-fi novel, at its core, it is a love story between two characters who have been intertwined since birth. Despite their differences and conflicting interests, it is clear that they share a deep love for each other. What sets this book apart from others is its imaginative world-building that takes readers light years ahead of its time.
Erin Zak is one of my all-time favorite authors and she and her co-author have done an exceptional job with this book. The love story between Isa and Amara is heartwarming and captivating, but the plot takes an unexpected turn when they are sent back in time on a mission. This twist adds a level of excitement and intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It was truly a joy to read and witness their love story unfold.
This book is action-packed and highly unique, making it a must-read for sci-fi fans. I am eagerly awaiting the second installment and am grateful to both authors for creating such a fantastic story. The book is available on Amazon Kindle unlimited, so don't hesitate to check it out. You won't regret it.
Lesbians AND time travel? I mean, come on, sign me UP! I was pleasantly surprised with the beginning of this book, the world-building, the set up, and of course the idea that this would be a battle through time. However, something happened along the way that I cannot really pinpoint for sure--maybe it was the "meh" romance, the lack of any fun or excitement when time traveling, the predictable final act, or that for some reason I had a very difficult time keeping the two characters straight when reading their conversations. Right around the half way mark I found myself losing interest in these characters and by the time I reached the end only to find a cliffhanger, my "meh" turned to disgust. Frankly, I don't even see enough that's still outstanding in this story to warrant yet another book. Great premise, but too many stumbles along the way for this to hit with me, and I'll be stopping the series here.
On paper, I should have hated this book. I’m not a fan of books set in the future, or time-travel, or anything related to fighting or war. But I gave this book a read as I’m a fan of other books by both authors and I’m really glad I did. I actually ended up loving the time-travel aspect of it and all of the issues the main characters faced in the different time periods. The whole book felt like a girl power moment and I really hope our world does end up being a place where queerness isn’t even questioned and women are in charge. I can’t believe it ended on such a cliff hanger though! Now I need to know what happens next and I’m not sure I’m patient enough for that! (Maybe I can invent a Time Machine to travel to the future for book 2 🤔)
I haven’t all the words together to understand what I just read. Not a genre I would have expected to enjoy and yet I can’t wait for the next book. I love that we have taken what is so wrong in the world today and built an amazing community in the future. A world we could just be, to exist and enjoy without hatred and shame or fear. I am a fan of Erin Zak which is why I ordered this and with Jackie D, they have create a futuristic world where I want to be. The storytelling in facts and figures is amazing. I true testament to these writers is the success The Static Series is going to have.
Usually, it is said that, given the chance to go back in time to change an event isn't a good idea, that we should let events unfold the way we know they did later. Not this time.
Without giving anything away, what you need to know is that changing the events that will happen in the future is imperative in this story.
I read this book in about a day. It's so compelling and excellent - as excellent as anything I have read from these two consistently exceptional writers. Their readers will love this book.
The characters are people you cheer for and want to succeed, even though the arc of history might change a little. It's all for the good. The tension between them is delicious, too!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ will think about it often / a must read / life changing / OBSESSED / you will get tired of me talking about it
Obsessed is an understatement for how I feel about this book. The romantic plot between Amara & Isa is incredible doesn’t feel overbearing to the rest of the story. Plus it’s sapphic 🤌✨
Now the world building & societal themes in this book?? A+ ✏️ Touching on themes of race, sexuality, pollution & waste, and overall humanity it paints an interesting and eerily familiar kind of hindsight. Definitely a 5 star book, and I can’t wait for the next one! 🏳️🌈🤖🩷⏱️✨
A passable sf/f and wlw story. Amara and Isa are competently drawn, but not complex. Their romance is the second-chance trope, as they are thrown together as apparently the only two who can save the world. The plot abruptly ended in the middle of what I thought was the climax, but apparently will continue the story in a book 2. The time-travel and the climate change plot elements were filled with cliche characters and events.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I had trouble empathizing with Amara... just 'cause I click with Isa's character so much. 2023 was so hard for me to get through, especially when everything seemed to fall apart. I did the best I could... much like Isa, but now I'm starting to wonder, 'what if?'
FML..
Jackie D and Erin Zak have great chemisty in their writing. I'm all for this duo... and even separately, I'm all for their work. I just wish they'd get outta my head and heart hahaha 'cause this shit hit home.
I'm giving this book 4 stars only because I enjoyed it so much, but not the cliffhanger ending. That was cruel. It's an interesting different read involving time travel with an apocalypse pending. Great characters, an adventure with lots of twists and turns, bring on book 2 asap I'll be looking out for it.
Loved the story and plot. The reason I don't like to read the first books us because there isn't a second and it leaves you hanging. There is no indication of when the next one is available. Why no ending? Why leave you hanging? Why can't you finish the story before you publish.
It was absolutely fantastic, and my question is, when is book two being released?
I was so captivated by the story and the characters. It was wonderfully written, and I can't wait to read what Isa is going to unleash when she catches up with those who took Amara.
My first book in this genre, I tried it since I am a fan of Erin Zak’s books. And I am so glad I did. Perfect mix of fighting and romance. With some time travel sprinkled in! Absolutely cannot wait for the next of the series.
This story begins with a great idea. Love the time travel. Love the strained relationship between Amara and Isa. The culture shock is well done too. Good read! Where is book 2?
Glitch is a delightful read. Well crafted universe and characters. The skillful writing placed me in the story along with the characters and it was a wild adventure. I can’t wait to read book 2!
I loved this book and want the next one. I read the blurb but it only wet my appetite. Please write fast. Thank you for this wonderful new world we live in.
I was hooked from the beginning and struggled to put it down. I don't know when the next book is coming out, but I can't wait. I can't recommend this book enough.
