“The queen had more to say and the only one who would understand would be Bethany. She was sure how much she could tell her though…”

Bethany explains to the Queen that she isn’t like the witches out there in the woods. The queen realizes that all those years ago the little girl, she had brought in was a witch. She tells the queen she can help Jacob. She knows that Dark Of Knight is no good and she must break down and tell the queen about Lingering smoke as well. If she’s going to help the queen, she must be honest with her, though she can see that the queen herself is holding something back.

Before they can talk more, Bethany can’t see out her windows when she could few minutes ago. She doesn’t know what’s going on, but she watches in horror as the queen gets up from the chair and goes to the window. She sees that it’s lingering smoke, just like Dark Of Knight had told her about. She knew that he wasn’t lying now and she wasn’t sure who she could trust.
They hear hollering and yelling from the other side of the window. The queen can hear Jacob and the prince of flames.
They feel the hut slowly going up in the air, they feel it spinning faster and faster and they cling to one another. Bethany isn’t sure if she’s going to live or die.

Why is the hut spinning? Where is lingering smoke? What can lingering smoke do?

Approaching the Queen - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Bethany has come to meet the Queen of Scales at the cottage in the woods, to try and convince her that she isn't an evil witch, but can be trusted by all the Royal family.
