2023 bk 244. A lovely tribute to the life of a woman who lived a full life. A childhood in Minnesota where her family were upper middle class, but with pioneering roots gave Virginia the opportunity to camp in Indian Territory as a child, see one of the last covered wagons heading west, and grow to young adulthood just in time for WWII. It was during those years that she volunteered with the American Red Cross with a hospital unit and was sent to England. She married another member of the hospital unit while in England and returned to the US, ready to have children, be involved in their lives, and become involved in the world of birding. The children of Reynolds have compiled a lovely book from their mother's journals, letters, and the stories she wrote of her childhood. There are holes and there are questions that won't be answered, but all in all a satisfying tribute to one of the Greatest Generation.
