Probably no murder during the twentieth century received more media coverage than did the Coo murder trial even though it was held in the little village of Cooperstown. An unusual murder occurred in a most unusual setting...a rural, neary crime-free township in upstate New York. The time: 1934. The place: Oneonta, New York.
Eva Coo should have gotten life in prison. She really got back-stabbed by a few people and an illegal trial tbh. Local history (at least currently in 2019). RIP Harry Wright.
Enjoyed reading this true story that occurred not far from where I live. I enjoyed learning of the past life style & history of the town of Oneonta, NY--again near me. Sending a woman to the electric chair tells of punishment done quickly following convection.
I found this book to be fascinating. Partly because it took place in my grandparents' hometown and it was somewhat of a local legend. It is an interesting look at an interesting era, and the justice system at the time. She was guilty of the crime, but she was railroaded by the good old boys who didn't want their secrets to come out. If her case had been tried by today's standards, it would have been thrown out because of the way it was handled. At the very least it would have ended in a mistrial. She has the distinction of being the last woman to be executed in New York State's electric chair.
Interesting story that takes place in my hometown....or at least within a few miles..Probably not as interesting to anyone who does not live in Otsego County!
