Gannon's Vendetta

Rate this book
"Do not forget, gentlemen--violence is the only thing they understand. If in doubt, KILL."

Recalling with hatred all the blood and pain these cycle creeps had caused him, Gannon described his enemy to the men who had come to help him.

The animals on the hpped-up Harleys had raped Gannon's wife, torched his house, and then--after working him over--dumped him in the desert to die. They never expected Gannon to come out alive.

This was the end of the long hunt--high noon at midnight. Gannon had followed the rat pack deep into Mexico. And now he was ready to do battle--their style.

I was really looking forward to reading this book and kind of disappointed that it was merely OK. I thought the writing was very good and the characters were well developed but I thought the story kind of fell apart at the end. Gannon's plan at the end of the story to exact his revenge was really convoluted, put a lot of his alias at completely unnecessary risk and was just kind of dumb. I was disappointed by this book but I have several other John Whitlatch books that I will read in the future.

I had read all of Whitlatch's books back in Jr. high and remembered them as being good action thrillers. Have to say I was disappointed rereading this one. We have a simple revenge plot as Gannon's wife is raped and killed by a motorcycle gang and he tracks them down to Mexico to get his vengeance. The action scenes are good, and it is pretty well written, but at least a third of the book is scenes that don't advance the plot, instead they just show how he passed the boring time between the action. This would have been much better at 160 pages instead of the 249 it is. Cover art by Norm Eastman who did a lot of men's adventure magazine covers back in the day.

HE has penned a desert novel of modern day Mexico and the real live bandit is that strive on the Dell of drugs and kidnapping travelers across Mexico. The hero in this novel is left for dead in the Senora Desert. He is rescued, returned to the states where he recooperates and then hired combat trainers veterans to train him. A year later he is ready to begin the war. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
