A silly, rather overactive rabbit and a mole who cannot make up his mind wait, in a charming and colorfully illustrated story, for a bus that will take them to lunch at squirrel's house. Reprint. SLJ.
‘Where’s the bus?’ by Eileen Browne is a brightly illustrated book on two animals who set off to meet their friend for tea. As they wait for the bus, the two friends get up to all kinds of things. Rabbit and Mouse wait for ages but there seems to be no sign of a bus approaching- or is there? This is a funny story on what happens when someone has their back turned. Children will love spotting the different buses that pass the two friends as they are busy doing something else.
This would be a fantastic book for early readers 5-7 years old. The colourful pictures demonstrate the events within the book and therefore children can use this to follow what the book is saying. This would be great to read within a classroom or even to introduce young children to concepts in PSHE such as friendship and differences between people.
A cute, colourful childrens picture book. My son loved every time the bus went past while Rabbit and Mouse were distracted. I on the other hand found it rather bad for them to be rewarded at the end by Duck coming to find them with a picnic and staying the night when they couldn't even do what they were supposed to and simply wait a few minutes at the bus stop in order to go see Duck. I felt if the message was not to let yourself be easily distracted it got rather lost at the end.
Silly alliteration: e.g. splishy, splashy, stream. The moral message of not getting distracted is subtle. It's funny I think I was laughing as much or more than my kid. Nice bright pictures.
What I think could be improved ?
I can't think of anything right now, I want read it again right now (it's sitting here next to me).
Rabbit and Mole are invited to Squirrel's house for lunch. They decide to take the bus because it's too far to walk. While waiting for the bus to arrive, they find themselves distracted numerous times as the bus passes them by. Squirrel, tired of waiting for them brings the lunch to where Rabbit and Mole are. When it's time for Squirrel to return home, distractions hampers her return trip.
