Notes from a Bible: One Woman's Love Affair with God

Rate this book
What if all you needed to know about someone was contained in the pages of her personal Bible? Much has been written about the deep love between Billy and Ruth Bell Graham. It was a relationship that would overcome many day to day trivialities of life. But it wasn't always easy. Billy Graham was on the road for months at a time. So what sustained Ruth during these long stretches? The truth is found in her most precious possession, her daily Bible. It is here that a deeper love affair was revealed, one that transcended all earthly relationships. It was a true love affair with God. Within these pages, she dealt with joy and sadness, faith and doubt, family and friends. She discovered that the only way to advance spiritually is by a complete immersion in the Word of God. Her interaction with scripture is a shining example to all who have the courage to follow their heart and walk side by side with the creator of the universe.

Ruth Graham was born in China; her parents were American medical missionaries at the Presbyterian Hospital 300 miles north of Shanghai. Ruth was a Christian from an early age. She graduated from Wheaton College, Illinois, where she met her future husband Billy Graham. They were married on August 13, 1943 in Montreat, NC when she was 23. Her husband became a full time evangelist preaching the gospel all over the world. She loved to move behind the scenes, away from the spotlight, and helped him craft and research sermons and even books. She wrote as an emotional release, while her husband was so often on the road. Ruth convinced Billy to move the family to Montreat, near her parents, when their first child was on the way. Her ministry flourished in the mountains of western North Carolina, where she built the family homestead and raised five children. Ruth and Billy were married over 65 years and had 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Ruth Graham died at the age of 87.
