This book was really fun to read. Mary Ellen provides insight to various situations and some were quite humorous.
My husband and I have spent time in Ely, MN and we did tour an iron mine. We've crossed the headwaters of the Mississippi. What really surprised me most were the tunnels to connect the schools. Who is better to dig a tunnel than a miner.
I felt Mary Ellen's overwhelming pressures of working in the Twin Cities. We've driven those highways. WOW!
The Black Hills of South Dakota are such a contrast and a relief from MN. We traveled those beautiful western hills.
Living off the electric grid reminds me of the ways the Amish live. I appreciated Mary Ellen's appreciation of the quiet life, with new challenges daily. What i enjoyed reading were how neighbors helped each other.
She is wise to ignore the daily trappings of TV and email. I have also learned radio, newspapers, and books are enough. I would add music to the home, but I think she has at least one piano.
If Mary Ellen writes another book, I will look forward to reading it.
