Once across the world nations competed with each other to build places were the arts, industries, hopes, dreams of the hosting nation and visitors were on displace. In Paris, Chicago(twice), St. Louis and 1939-40 the words-World's Fair fill the media of the day.
This excellent picture book, details the creation of the New York World's Fair, taking the waste land and building a Art Deco paradise of avenues, buildings for the great businesses, statues that endowed the streets, the builders of nations and a vast area for the places of entertainment-Broadway shows, water shows, burlesque that by the end entertained millions of Americans that came looking for hope, a taste of the future, sadly that future would see a world a war.
There are pictures of posters, dinnerware, rides that showed the cites and highways of the future, a robot that smoked, Wonder Bread and special comics. Unfortunately no photos of Superman parade, that did take place.
This Fair only lasted two years, but it is still a wonder of the world.

Lots of good pictures. Now I know what the actual inside of the Perisphere looked like, as opposed to its depiction in 'All-Star Squadron'.
