A Magical Beauty and the Beast Retelling Set on the Oregon Trail...
Rose grew up with the magic of her mother's storytelling, but has come to realize that happily ever afters might only belong within the pages of her books.
After being sold by her cruel uncle, she's left to decide whether to flee from the frightening man who bought her or take his offer of a journey of a lifetime.
Duncan has scars, inside and out. Wanting a fresh start to escape the past that constantly threatens him, he decides to take on the difficult adventure to Oregon. But when he comes across a young girl at an auction just before setting out, he has to make a decision that could have the power to change his life forever.
Can love be found despite the trials of the trail? And can even the deepest scars find a way to heal?
Sweet, but the dialogue wasn't very accurate to the time period and the emotional points just didn't really hit for me. Some grammatical errors and typos too.
This story is basically a version of Beauty and the Beast, but without the growl. The story lacks emotion, description, action and unnecessary 2D characters who contribute absolutely nothing and have been put in for padding. The main characters have no depth to them whatsoever and their back stories hold no credibility or real explanation.
It makes the Oregon Trail seem like a walk in the park, which certainly does no honour to the brave men and women who made the exhaustingly harsh and emotional trek years ago.
I am a huge fan of Ms. Morgan Dawson and wasn’t disappointed with this new book in a new series. In this story, the beast, or Duncan, will rescue Beauty, Rose, from an uncertain fate. He asks nothing of her but offers her a chance to leave and travel safely with him to Oregon and several others.
Rose Ripley’s life hasn’t been the same after losing her mother and father as a small child. She will then live with a cruel uncle, who doesn’t want her and devises a way to get rid of her.
Duncan Clemonte will be gathering supplies when he witnesses the young woman being dragged on a stage to be auctioned. He will win the bid but offer her freedom—a choice she is allowed to make. Duncan and three former servants are part of a wagon train traveling to the Oregon Territory.
The story’s plot will be about a heavily scarred man buying Rose at an auction. He doesn’t have any nefarious intent but felt compelled to help her. He does let her know she has choices. She can stay and hope to find a job and not be preyed upon, or she is welcome to join him and his friends on the wagon train to Oregon. Duncan is a loner, people look at him with revulsion, and he does what he can to hide and not stand out. Rose doesn’t see the scars, but instead, a kind man who is hurting, because he does carry emotional damage.
“Scars to me whether on the inside or outside are a reminder that we survived. They’re not something to be ashamed of.”
The story is healing for both Duncan and Rose because they both have suffered loss and pain. It is also kindness because what he does rescues her from a fate unknown, she also rescues him from the self-imposed prison he lives. I enjoyed the story, the journey along the trail, and the sweet, clean romance that develops. True love is blind to imperfections and sees the heart.
Rose is a Beauty and the Beast retelling set on the Oregon trail. I adored this story, it was very sweet and written really well. It follows the journey of Rose and Duncan as they head to Oregon for differing reasons and under very different circumstances. I felt that there was a lot more characterisation and plot development that could have happened if the story was just a little longer. The story wasn't truly impacted by this, but it would have definitely increased my enjoyment and overall love for this story - it would have allowed me to actually feel what the characters were feeling alongside them instead of being told what they felt consistently.
When scarred and bitter Duncan Clemente purchases orphaned Miss Rose Ripley's freedom, she's given two options: fend for herself in the city, or come with him and his servants on the pioneer trail to Oregon. Choosing the fresh start offered, Rose and Duncan face many challenges on the trail, including the matter of their hearts.
This was such a beautiful story, with a slow, sweet romance set against a well-written and researched journey across the USA. The characters faced and overcame their grief and scars in a gentle way that was really well handled. Beauty and the Beast vibes!
A very nice read by Morgan Dawson. It has been wavers well. Rose and Duncan travel on the Oregon trail with there own story. Rose’s uncle puts her up on the auction block. He was tired of taking care of her and Duncan purchases her. Duncan was in a fire and was badly damaged. So he was running from his old life. Travels along the trail are hard and good things can come of it. A enjoyable read.
Rose finds herself being sold to the highest bidder by her Uncle who had come to care for her after her parents passing. Duncan is preparing to head west on the trail to Oregon for a fresh start in life and while in town prepping for his trip stumbles upon the auctioning of Rose and he bids and wins her. This was an absolutely sweet story of not judging someone by how they look but judge them upon their heart and actions. Well written with great characters!
A beautiful tale Rose and Duncan's story a retelling of beauty and the beast it also throws some light of hardships on the Oregon trail fiction but could possible be close to The truth. The portrayal of the characters are so well described and the scenes just come to life I have loved reading this story and would encourage anyone wanting to read a sweet clean romance to give it a go I am so glad I did.
The re-telling of fairytales is certainly a popular starting point for many of today's romances. Thankfully, Rose by Morgan Dawson is a well written and sweet version of The Beauty and the Beast. I liked how the lead characters, Duncan and Rose were well developed within the re-imagined story-line. My only disappointment was the ending and epilogue. I felt a bit short-changed.
Content 411: This is a clean read. It's suitable for any romance reader.
I read this last year for a prompt for a reading challenge. i thought it would be fun to read as I am from Oregon originally and my family came over on the trail. Plus Beauty and the Beast is favorite of mine. But I did not enjoy it. I think the idea was great but i felt like the middle kind of dragged on. And honestly, after several months i kind of forget the details but I do remember that i struggled to finish it.
I absolutely loved reading this really wonderful book! I really loved the characters and the plot! I had a hard time putting this really wonderful book down! I absolutely loved reading this retelling of Beauty and the Beast! I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this really wonderful series! Morgan Dawson is a really wonderful author!
This book was a bit simplistic for me. The characters were interesting but there was minimal to no depth in them. It seemed like they were in a bubble, protected from Indians, wild animals, even more hardships than they had experienced. It IS a sweet novel but a little too oblivious to the real world.
This is the first book I have read by Morgan Dawson. I am now hooked on her writing. This story of a young girl who is sold by her uncle and is bought by a man who is scared from a fire is a beautiful retelling of the story Beauty and the Beast. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
A beautiful unique retelling of the story Beauty and the Beast. It is in the time of people traveling the Oregon Trail for a new beginning. Duncan, a scarred man from a family tragedy, is escaping heartache. Rose is facing an unknown future after her uncle puts on an auction block to be rid of her. What an incredible love story ensues!
I loved Rose and Duncan's story. Duncan's three hired servants who came with him were great characters also. I loved the reference to one of my favorite fairy tales. I love Oregon trail romance. I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
This is an easy to read variation of the Beauty and the Beast without the magic. Although it is light reading without a lot of depth, it is still fun to see how the author envisions the fairy tale. The main characters are very easy to like, and (as in all fairy tales) the evil ones are easy to spot.
This was such a fun twist on Beauty and the Beast. It kept a lot of little ties to the well loved film. The "Had to make sure you weren't eaten by wolves" side comment when he went to check on her one night made me laugh in the best way. So many cool elements in this sweet retelling.
I enjoyed Rose by Morgan Dawson. Oregon Trail stories are generally fun and adventurous and Rose did not disappoint. Both main characters struggle to trust and believe in themselves and it was fun to see how love can soften others. Although indirectly implied, my personal preference would have been to read that God was the source of that love and growth.
I read Rose: An Otegon Ever After Fairytale Retelling by Morgan Dawson through the kindle Unlimited program. This was a great retelling of a favorite fairy tale. Can't wait to read more in this series.
I haven’t read a good wagon train story in a while and this one did not disappoint. Rose had such a sweet and loving heart, so it didn’t take long to help Duncan to find joy once again.
Lovely retelling of a classic with some twists. A few items outside the typical that you have to look beyond. Oregon trail like you played when young - watch out for cholera, running out of bullets, and losing a wheel.
A sweet clean romance. Two tortured souls find each other traveling across the the plains to Oregon. I loved seeing the character development, the friendships made, and of course the love story unfold. An enjoyable quick read.
The story is charming and has all the twists and turns to keep one reading on. Every evening I looked forward to reading the next pages in the book, and I’m sorry the story has ended.
Her life begins worse than Cinderella, but he rescues her. With his scars, he does not feel worthy of anyone caring for him, but this is a western fairytale. Super.
Great story, wonderful story line, and characters who will steal your heart. Duncan bought Rose at a auction, to set her free, she chooses to go with him on the wagon train. Together they find love . . thank you ❤️
