Asteryn desperately tries to rally, clutching the fractured pieces of their court together as the drums of war begin to echo across the sea.
Attica advances, bringing with them demons of the past that will rip open old wounds, and push alliances to the bitter edge.
Heliacle will face Heliacle. Bonds will be formed and friends will fall. But after the dust settles, and the blood seeps into the earth… Only one Queen will stand.
SAME, ROGUE. SAME. This book didn’t just take me on a ride- it strapped me to a dang rocket, shot me through an emotional hellscape, then dropped me into a pit of feral sapphics and told me to “vibe or die.” AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.
This was the most chaotic, blood-soaked, anxiety-inducing masterpiece of my life.
This is the final book in The Wytchling Chronicles, and let me tell you, I am unwell. C.C. Davie looked at my heart and said “Pain? Okay. I’ll shred your heart into CONFETTI!”
The banter? EXQUISITE. Kinley and Echo are walking disasters, and I love them so much I want to bake them cookies, even if they’d probably use them as throwing weapons. Lyrik is still an unhinged, five foot feral, and the entire squad is peak *cackling while slaughtering* vibes and I’m here for every second of it.
It’s giving The Avengers if everyone were stabby lesbians fueled by trauma and rage. I aspire to be half as cool as these characters, but let’s face it- I’d be the civilian in the background accidentally tripping over their own feet.
There’s a battlefield scene that legitimately made me yell HECK YES. I’ve never wanted to scream laugh while crying so much in my life 😂
This series is EVERYTHING. Sapphic? Check. Stabby? Check. Plot? Check. Emotional? CHECK. Traumatized characters? They’ve got enough baggage to sink a ship. Relatable, honestly.
Do yourself a favor and read it, but make sure you’ve got snacks, wine, an emotional support animal, and maybe a stress ball because you’re going to need them.
Thank you so much to C.C Davie for the ARC and for leaving me an emotionally wrecked goblin 🫠
"From the daughter of darkness and prince of stars will rise the Queen of Heliacles. As winter falls in crimson tides, only she can weave the sundered threads and heal what once was lost."
This will also serve as my final and complete review of The Wytchling Chronicles. I cannot express the emotional rollercoaster this series has taken me on (in the best way possible).
It goes without saying that C.C. Davie has well and truly outdone herself with this High Romantasy series. She should truly be so proud of all of this, she has created a world where it is easy to fall in love with the characters, to become immersed in their storylines and feel all the things (good, bad, ugly crying included). Note: she wont pay for therapy so read at your own risk but I can assure you, there will be absolutely no disappointment whatsoever if you choose to dive deep into this world.
This is the final book of the Wytchling Chronicles and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT 🤌🏽 This has been one of my favourite series since I read book one a few years ago and each book just gets better and better. This epic conclusion was everything I expected AND MORE! It was action packed, no one was safe, full of trauma and powerful angry women… honestly perfection 🤌🏽 If you are looking for your next dark romantic fantasy series full of epic battles, magic, animal friends, found family, queer characters and spice then READ THIS NOW!
This series has been a 5 start all the way through & this finale is absolutely another 5. I genuinely think this is book of the year.
This book. This series. This author is going places honestly! It's giving game of thrones but make it magic and throw in some s3x between all the genders and non binary. God. I was ugly sobbing. But this book also warmed my heart. You friggin fall in love with this huge cast of characters throughout the story and so you really feel the toll of war on them in this last book.
Phenomenal.
And the linking into the PENDRAGON series ... Please feed me more, I will lick it from the dirt you walk on.
Huge thank you to the author for the ARC of A Song of Chaos! I just have to say this entire series is criminally underrated - I ate up all 500+ pages of this book in just a couple days it was so good. I don’t think it’s for everyone, but it’s definitely for me. And if you also want unhinged, queer, poly, romantasy with a large cast of lovable characters, magical creatures, epic magic, great battle scenes, actually good spice, and loads of trauma, these books are done right!
A song of chaos made me laugh, cry, and gasp many times and I loved every single second. I’ll miss this series and I wish it could go on forever, but the finale gave me everything I wanted and more. Easily 5 stars ⭐️
I know I'm not the only one struggling to come up with words after finishing A Song of Chaos This finale was EVERYTHING.
It tortured me, it healed me, it had me laughing at inopportune moments in the midst of intense battles.
I may be a masochist at heart who loves a traumatic read (which this was) but I still like to see the good amongst the pain (which this has in spades). Through all the hurt this finale contains, there are some key moments from which absolute beauty emerges and it had me sobbing those happy healing tears for these characters I hold so dearly.
I just love the way C.C. writes strength, resilience and redemption. Quite honestly she could write hate mail directed at me and I would still love reading it 🤣
I had the absolute privilege of proofreading A Song of Chaos, and it was everything I could have asked for and more!
I’ll admit I was a bit nervous going in because there were a lot of storylines to be tied up, but CC delivered flawlessly!
I completely adore the characters in this series. They feel like family, and I experienced every emotion right alongside them. I laughed, and I cried.
Life is fucking hard, and we all experience trauma. CC took us on a thrilling ride, but she did an incredible job of illustrating the struggles that come with different types of trauma, as well as the journey of healing and the beauty of embracing the good things in life and the people we love.
A Song of Chaos is, without a doubt, one of my top favorite reads of this year, and The Wytchling Chronicles series will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you, CC! 🔥🖤
Blessed enough to have received an ARC for this book, and damn it. Yall aren't ready for the roller-coaster of emotions. Also I think the war/action scenes were very well written. Normally, I find myself having to re read action bits because I get lost or confused on who did what. Thank you CC motherfucking Davie for this read, it was well worth the wait.
This was an excellent conclusion to one of my favorite fantasy series. This series had strong world building, magic, a great found family, and so much more. The characters were strong; I loved the magic system and the relationships between everyone. Highly highly recommend to anyone that wants a well written fantasy series with characters you will come to love and be invested in. I can't wait to read the next series.
C C Davie has created an amazing world with this series. I have read the physical books twice and listened to the audio. And when I receive my physical copy, I will be reading the series again.
This book gets you from the start and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride throughout. I very rarely cry in books, but this one had me numerous times, and I laughed out loud a lot. Kinley and Echo are the funniest characters.
I have been waiting for this book to come out for over a year, although I also had a bit of apprehension going into it as I had high hopes and expectations and was worried I would be let down. So many fantasy books I have read lately have started out good, then go downhill with each new edition, and they are all similar and are getting tedious.
I don't normally give 5 stars to a book that has missed edits but this one deserves it and as it was an ARC read they will hopefully be fixed before release day.
I am really looking forward to more books by C C Davie
I feel so emotionally devastated and exhausted right now that I barely know what to say. This book was absolutely worth the wait and I would say it was the perfect ending to this series. It’s probably my favourite book in the series and one of my favourite endings ever. Although I’m so sad to say goodbye to these characters.
C. C. Davie is such a gifted writer and storyteller because she made me fall in love with every single character in this series. We even got introduced to some new characters and I once again loved them as well. She is also masterful at character development and creating complex and beautiful relationships. I also can’t get over how rich and complex this world is with so much history.
The action in this book was also insane and done so well. We follow many different characters on different journeys with different POVs and you are invested in every single one of them. I hate when books lead up to a war that only lasts for 2 seconds and then it’s over but the author does not do this which I appreciated. The war takes up a good chunk of the book and there are such high stakes and it is devastating but it’s just done so well.
I loved getting 2 epilogues as well so we can heal after what the fuck just happened and there was such a plot twist at the end which makes me excited to continue the Pendragon series!
This series is definitely solidified as one of my favourites and C. C. Davie has become an auto-buy author!
I can’t talk about some stuff without spoiling so SPOILERS AHEAD….
The relationship between Cecily, Gryff and Amylia is so fucking beautiful it just kills me. They all have such a pure and endless love for each other and the way they support and always lean on each other is so beautiful. Also seeing them be parents to Faisyn was also so fucking sweet.
Amylia is such a fucking strong women and she continued to go through hell in this book but she was so brave. It broke my heart when she was in pain and she would shut dawn and seeing her learn about her mum’s betrayal and dealing with her powers, what she went through with Cecily and Faisyn and her mum’s death. Like holy shit my heart broke for her. I also couldn’t believe how powerful she was in the end!
Cecily was also so strong and she is so caring and loving to her family and what she goes through in this book made my heart shatter. I loved meeting her siblings but seeing how she was treated by her father made me so angry. But over and over again she showed that she would do anything for her family and when she sacrificed herself for Faisyn my heart shattered but I knew she would because she couldn’t lose another child. It was such a full circle moment. When I tell you I was sobbing, especially when it looked like she wasn’t coming back. But just before it happened I figured out that Addelyn would sacrifice herself which also made me so sad.
I also adore Gryff. He is always such a warm and gentle presence every time he pops up in the book. He also experienced so much grief by watching his family suffer but he was always such a rock which I admired him so much for.
My poor baby Lyrik finally got her happy ending!! As the author likes to torture her characters, Lyrik also went through a lot and she went through so much development in this book. It was so amazing to see her get her emotions back and to embrace both sides of herself and seeing her kill Darius was one of the most satisfying things ever.
I also adore Rogue and Lilith. Rogue is such a loveable, caring and protective goofball and Lillith is so sweet and fiesty at times which I loved.
I also completely fell in love with Andromeda. I was gonna hold a grudge because they broke Lyrik’s heart but they were so devastated and remorseful and seeing them love Lyrik from a distance to make her happy was so beautiful.
I really was not expecting a little love square between them! I thought that Lyrik and Andromeda would be a couple and then Rogue and Lillith would be together but I was picking up onthe connection between Lyrik and Lillith from the start which turned in to such a sweet relationship and then seeing how Rogue was loving both of them. I was so happy! Their relationship with each other was so beautiful, especially how they would coddle Lyrik at times. But I’m so glad Lyrik and Andromeda also made up and excepted the bond because they also have a lovely relationship. The relationship between everyone wasn’t really defined which I honestly kind of liked because they all just loved each other. I also loved how they had their own kids as well. Wyatt has captured my heart the whole series and the new addition of Tobias was amazing too.
My babies Ravyn and Silas also went through so bloody much but they were both such strong and brave boys. I was sobbing when Ravyn lost his Sylike and Silas lost his leg. I don’t know if I was just being stupid because I didn’t pick up on the fact that they liked each other before this book but I was pleasantly surprised and I loved seeing their relationship bloom.
Kinsley and Echo were both such fabulous additions to the group. Both of them were genuinely so funny and insane (especially Echo) and I loved their relationship together. They brought much needed banter and comic relief and I loved how they were always taking the piss out of Rogue and Lyrik. I was pissed at how they were treating Lyrik at the beginning but I knew they would accept her.
I could keep going on and on about how much I love the side characters and creatures/animals but I’m gonna stop otherwise I will have a whole page.
I would also just like to say another thing that I loved about the war was as I mentioned that it was long and it actually went over days but also how the stakes were actually high and the author wasn’t afraid to kill those you loved because there will always be casualties in war.
I can’t believe Morgana popped up in the end!! I have so many questions! I can’t believe she is still alive and I’m concerned that she is there. I hope my babies from this series don’t get dragged into anything else because they deserve happiness! But I’m also worried about my Pendragon babies! Also, is Morgana an ancestor of Amylia? I need the next Pendragon book so badly!
I’m trying to find the right words to describe how I felt while reading this book…. I laughed. I cried (like a lot!). I was scared. I was anxious. I cried. C.C Davie has managed to create a world filled with characters that you feel a deep connection to. You are constantly rooting for them or cheering them on with the decisions they make throughout the book. Reading this series was a journey and this final instalment was what I needed without me even realising. Don’t get me wrong… I’m a bit mad at C.C for putting me through the rollercoaster but I can forgive her (maybe). Everything was just *chefs kiss* and I don’t have a negative thing to say about this. Just… go read it.
I cannot even begin to explain my love for this series!! Each book only got better and better, and this book made me so damn happy and also shed tears! C.C Davie !! Thankyou for sharing this amazing story, I can honestly say this is in my top 3 favourite fantasy series!! I will not forget these stories and Lyrik honestly her story captivated me more than I thought it would and became my absolute favourite!! This book delivered, 100% ! I will be forever sharing this series! An an aussie author !! ❤️ My fav aussie author and I cannot wait to start the Pendragon chronicles I am so glad I hadn't read them yet ! I am obsessed with your writing and story telling 🥰🥰
This may be one of the best series I have ever read! Starting from the very first book it was amazing.
The magic system is so cool. You have a specific group of people who have different classes of magic and different levels in those classes. It's fun to learn about the different skills and how they all work together.
The characters are what bring this book to life! The dynamic between Amylia, Cecily, and Gryffin is so beautiful. The love they have for each other is incredible to witness and I loved getting to see them grow together. There are multiple other groups of people who mesh together so well and it just makes your heart want to burst with love.
Lyrik, Lylith, Rogue, and Andromomachy and also great together. I had so much anxiety trying to figure out how everyone was going to fit and if they would or wouldn't make things work.
Kinley and Echo may be some of the funniest characters to read. I laughed out loud at so much of their dialog.
Everything came together so well in this final book and even though I spent so long sobbing over certain things I also spent so much more time loving everything about it. I can not recommend this book, this entire series, and everything C.C. Davie has written enough.
This book has forever altered my brain chemistry, redefined the terms of what it means to be emotionally wrecked and made me question both my sanity and sexuality.
CC writes in such an addictive, immersive way that you can't help being drawn in and falling in love with the world. AND then you get thrown in a washing machine with every single emotion possible and come out wet (from tears guys - minds out of the gutter) and slightly misshapen.
Never have I ever been so in love with an ENTIRE cast of characters, I had such a deep attachment to all of this crew and none of them felt like 'side' characters by the end, all integral, beautifully broken beings with dark humour and banter galore. Together they make each other and ME whole.
This is the wildest of rollercosters with many ups and down, literal on page torture and plenty of emotional torture for characters and readers alike, noone makes it out unharmed. The toll of war and fighting for everything you know and love is felt so profoundly in this conclusion to the series and you're never quite sure how it's all going to end.
There is epic action, fierce love and loyalty, revenge, forgiveness and somehow still humour and hope. A world on the brink of change, a found family like no other, a little bit chaotic and A LOT of excellent storytelling.
The highs will make you giddy and the lows will make you sob but I promise you won't be disappointed. This is the epitome of “you're going to suffer but you will be happy about it”.
I might need therapy after this book but it was 100% worth it and bonus all of the characters will be joining me.
A fantastic conclusion to an excellent series. It had literally everything, concluding every beloved character’s storyline perfectly, justice for a few, tragedy, humor, and love. Unique magic system, great world building and political intrigue and so many cool mythical creatures. Just excellent across the board.
I am so glad I found C.C. Davie! Her writing is incredible and I look forward to each new release with anticipation. I've been waiting for the conclusion of this series, and it has met every one of my expectations. I will now be waiting impatiently for the next book.
“But if this is the last time I see you in this life, I’ll be waiting for you in the next.” A Song of Chaos by C.C. Davie
Blurb: “A prophecy foretold. Their fates aligned. But after the dust settles, and the blood seeps into the earth… Only one Queen will stand.”
First thing first congratulations to C.C. on completing this beautiful and enchanting series. I fell in love with the Heliacle series a year and a half ago and I will not stop recommending it to anyone and everyone who likes fantasy, polyamorous couple stories, found family anything under the sun but as always read those triggers. C.C. has always done an amazing job with writing the scenes in a way that I can picture them and this book was no different. With the new places the crew got to travel in this book C.C. introduced even more life and beauty into the world. Amylia, Cecily and Gryff I will scream to the rooftops how much I love them as a unit. Apart each of them are strong on their own but together unstoppable. Amylia’s growth from page one of the series to now is astounding. She overcomes so much and at her core still loves people wholly, no piece of her holds back which is something I love about her and it's what connects me to her emotionally. Lyrik the five foot feral really shines in this book and it gives me life. I love her and every time she opens her smart mouth she makes me laugh (if she isnt making me cry that is). The story as a whole was not a let down, the wait was well worth it and this series does not get enough hype in my humble opinion. I cried, laughed, maybe threw my kindle a time or two, and I have never devoured a book like I did this one. Thank you so much to C.C. for the ARC and letting me read the beta as well. I am so proud and I can not wait to see what comes next!
I don't even know how to start this review, but firstly a massive congratulations to C.C Davie, 1. For completing this trilogy and 2. For this masterpiece.
A Song of Chaos is book 3 in The Wytchling Chronicles series and is the last book.
I laughed, I cried, I sobbed, I sent C.C angry messages, all because of my love of this incredible series, and this book honestly blew me away. It has everything you could ever want. I'm not going to say too much because you need to go into this blind, but this was the perfect (with a few hiccups i won't mention, I'm looking at you C.C) ending for a series that has deeply rooted itself in my life forever. I know I was warned that my emotional damage therapy will not be paid out for, but I feel I need physical therapy and will take payment anyway you will give it to me. What a rollercoaster ride, one that I will never forget.
4.5 ⭐️ I ended up loving this conclusion—kinks and all. I didn’t reread the earlier books (rookie move, I know), so when I jumped into this, the side character POVs didn’t hit right at first. But by the end? I was all in again. A few scenes had me misty-eyed, one had me holding my breath... and then the mom? I full-on ugly cried. Like, close-the-book-and-stare-at-the-wall cried.
My only real complaint is the ending. I don’t mind a setup for a new series, but the very last page felt like a sales pitch, not a send-off. That’s probably just a me thing—but it took a bit of shine off an otherwise great finale.
Still, I loved the book, loved the characters, and loved this series as a whole. Just do yourself a favor and read them close together—you’ll thank me later
For right now, I'v only read some teasers of this book. I will be beta reading it soon enough when the author is ready.
But for what I've aleady read, this is going to be a 5 stars and I cannot wait for this last book of the series to be out there in the world. Thnak you CC for the amazing adventure you allowed me to embarqued on.
I will make an official review once i have read it fully.
C.C. Davie is a wonderful evil genius and I don’t know whether I want her to hug me or step on me.
This book was a damn rollercoaster, especially the last 30%. It had me fist-pumping, biting my lip, screaming expletives, and shedding many tears. It hooked me from the very first page and kept me holding on for dear life till the end.
God damn I wish I could read this series for the first time again.
AAAAAAARGH! No book has made me cry OR swear so frequently and/or want to continue through it. Prepare for HECTIC trauma right from the start. If you've read "Heir of Vasilica" as you should have then yes -on that scale. C.C. Davie will do some lovely soothing aftercare but leave you feeling bratty about some of the TRAUMA despite also feeling satisfied. I hunger for more.
As Attica advances and the threat of war looms, Asteryn rallies — for time, for allies and for hope. Amylia's family faces threats from all sides, and nowhere seems safe. Does she have the power she needs to stop Celeste, take back Lylican from Mica, and protect Faesyn from the horrors of their world? Can Lyric come back from the dark and open her heart amongst the threat of heartbreak? Can Rogue bridge the gap between his past and his present?
This book was everything. Somehow, CC was able to tie everything together without rushing the story, and beautifully set up the Pendragon series, giving me hope this is just goodbye-for-now for these characters. I highly, highly recommend everything CC writes!
