This short story ( not a book) spent a huge amount of it’s few pages restating previous thoughts from this and previous publications. The villain was obvious from their introduction. Stories are becoming disappointing and characters have become stagnant and the character’s depression is rubbing off on me.
A very pregnant Violet, her family and friends have traveled to say goodbye to Jack and Ham's wartime friend. But as soon as they arrive, people begin to sicken.
Although they solve the mystery and provide solace to the dying man, the strongest thread in the story is the power of love and hope. Vi and her friends have matured and their bonds have strengthened over the 41 books in the series.
This is a cozy mystery with heart and grit. It is perfect reading during this tumultuous summer.
I have been tiring of Vi's dark days. (been on mood stabilizers for over 30 years). I like to read books that take me away from all that. This book is really a breath of fresh air. For once, Vi gets out of her own head to help the rest of her family. Thank you. It's hard to overcome overthinking everything. But we have to do it to survive. Again, great book.
I love this series. The characters are very realistic. These are a group of friends anyone would want to have. They always set out on some travel or daytime trip that ends with a mystery. I love the families are expanding and look forward to reading the next installment.
I was disappointed in this story. It was so macabre and morbid. It was as if Vi wrote the tale during one of her " grey periods" There was no humor to break up the doom and gloom. It seemed as if the author got everyone together in one place so all would be at risk. I suggest that you don't read this if you're in a "grey period".
I enjoyed this book very much even though it contained the horror of the evil people can do it also revealed what love can do. and that family may not be blood kin but "love kin". Not so patiently waiting for the birth of " the baby/babies ".
I know many thought this book was too dark I also fight depression and I understand what Vi was saying. It is part of life many of us need to live with.
Violet and Jack and their friends go to see a war veteran that is dying. But why? According to Jack and Ham the injuries sustained in the war should not be life threatening. Love all of the series by Beth Byers but this is definitely one that will keep you guessing.
This one was a really good one. It Kept me reading straight through. Time to make some lunch. I couldn't put this book down. Figuring out "who did it" came slowly.
This book is awesome from the start love moves with you in each step. I didn’t want it to end and yet I couldn’t put it down. A great read from a fantastic writer!
