Daughter of Winter #3

Winter's Shield

Rate this book
What is power without control?

In return for siding with the enemy, Brydie is given the secret to unlocking the full power of her birthright. But no power comes without consequence, and she must learn to become the master, rather than the victim.

Time is inevitably swallowed as Brydie grapples for the place she is owed. Her training is dogged by tales of horror, for not only has the leader of their Druidic clan fallen to the darkness, but he also holds an object of power that could plunge the world into a bone-chilling nightmare.

As the future of her people and control of her power hang in the balance, Brydie soon comes to understand that her guardian is her only shield against the coming storm.

Winter's Shield is the third book in a gripping fantasy series based on the legends behind the winter goddess, Cailleach Bheur. The series draws you into a world of Celtic mythology, powerful Druids, dark magic, and fated mates.

I Absofuckinglutely love this story. As I stated on the first book, I was hoping that the characters and story would continue to build and Corina didn’t disappoint. This enemies to lovers slow burn is killing me (in a good way). Need to get to book 4 for the spice in a hurry!

I love the story twists in this book. Really great use of time hopping from the beginning of the “curse” and tying it back to current events in the story. As one reviewer also stated, I’m even digging on the “evil” characters.

We’re going to stay in this train the whole way I think 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ok, this series is really getting good. I love the back-and-forth explaining events. I am enjoying watching Brydie grow. If this ends well this will be a hard series to beat.

OMG Corina has done it again

When this book finished I screamed NO, my family all came to check I was ok and I said “No I just finished Corina’s book and now I have to wait till October to find out what happens next” I then got into trouble for scaring them. Another awesome book from this talented author, she makes you feel so many emotions while reading her books and I get so absorbed into these stories, they are written so well. I love all the characters even the bad guys, well I hate the bad guys with a passion. Thanks Corina for sharing your amazing stories with us all, I will now be hanging out for October 31st 😁

The third book in the Daughter of Winter series is yet another skillfully written, suspense filled and action packed book - you'll find yourself happily sacrificing sleep to continue reading into the early hours of the morning!

Winter's Shield transforms you into the world of Cailleach's prophecy, a world of fantasy, lore and complicated relationships, one that Brydie is still bond to even centuries later. Each and every character is superbly crafted, drawing you in and forming an emotional connection. You feel their betrayal, anger, frustration, fear and triumph. When you think you're getting some answers and know where the story is heading you get blind sided by plot twists, and the dreaded "The End" comes too soon, leaving you hungry for book 5!

The Adventure and Intrigue Continues...

Author Corina Douglas delivers again!

A majestic world full of interesting characters. MC Brydie continues on her adventure as she moves ever-closer to her destiny. So many have come to rely on her - but will she be up to the task?

I could go on and on, but don't want to say anything more - as it would reveal too many spoilers.

This is the third book in the Daughter of Winter series. It's fast becoming one of my favorite new fantasy series - it contains everything you'd want in this genre - and more.

I've have already pre-ordered Book 4 - can't wait!

A turbulent tale of myth, magic and unrequited love

This, the third installment in the author's Daughter of Winter series, sees the hero Brydie face even greater challenges than before.

She struggles to access her magical power and step into her legacy. While attempting to deal with an attraction that is both forbidden and all consuming.

Enemies threaten like never before and Brydie and those working to help her are forced to go on the run. If you enjoy reading tales of myth (Celtic in this case), magic and stormy relationships, then you'll like "Winter's Shield".

I have truly been enjoying this series. I just finished the third book, and I’ll be starting the fourth one soon. The story just keeps getting even better with each book! I love that this series has to do with druids, gods and goddesses, and Celtic magic! The scenery in every book is well described and so is the image of each character(which are my favorite things to describe myself as an author) The plot and storyline are on point and easy to follow. I adore all the main characters! I’m excited to see how this series will end! 😁

Just like the previous two books I didn’t want to put down vol 3. As I learned more about each character and how they influence each other I really really want to know what happens next. Will they survive their two nemesis? Who will Brydie become? What will Gage do? I also loved the location descriptions. My imagination has these beautiful places now thanks to Corina’s clever style of writing. A sweet balance between details and action.

I love, love, love this series. It is a page-turning delight. I have preordered book 4. October seems a long way off right now. Ms. Douglas is one he double hockey sticks of a writer. The character development is so good that I even have feelings for the bad guys negative though they are. The story-line is an emotional roller coaster. I heartily recommend this book and the series.

DNF I feel like the story just sizzled out and I am bored. The "slow burn" enemies to lovers... So slow I paged through the book to see if there was any movement in the " to lovers" portion and was dissatisfied.

Wintry goodness

This series keeps delivering! I’m still enjoying Brydie and Gage’s story as secrets get revealed and the tension keeps ratcheting up. With some of the events that took place in this book, I have a feeling the next book is going to be even better!

Wow! Everything ramped up in this one. There’s action, danger, mystery, intrigue . . . and so much more! Great characters, with so much depth and growth! The story is riveting. Bring on Book Four!

I already read books 1 and 2 in this series and I thoroughly enjoyed both. If you like celtic mythology and fantasy (and who doesn't?!) then this series is definitely for you. Corina Douglas writes with a vibrancy and precision that makes the pages fly by and is a joy to read. In other series that I've read, I find myself forgetting the details of the characters and story between book releases - not with this one. I was gripped by the characters and plot from the very first book and I look forward to each new instalment she releases. I have one message for Corina Douglas if she reads this: Hurry up and release more please - your fans are waiting to see how this thrilling story ends!

The poor writing and editing are continuing to make me question why I’m persisting with this series. The pacing is SO poor. But I want to know how it ends, so on we go…

In the previous book, we know what happens in the past, but man, Douglas delivers an intense and emotional filled storyline. I love this series. The characters are exceptionally well developed and the plot switching from the past to the present is timed perfectly and to me only intensifies the story telling. 5 stars!

I really enjoyed the first book of this series. But each book explains more about past events and how that affects characters in the current time. I like the multiple POV because I like knowing each character’s motivations and feelings.

Narration is really good.

Gage is unbearable for the majority of the book I really hope that begins to change. He isn’t broody sexy and morally grey he’s just mean. I don’t enjoy men who get mad at women for THEIR own sexual attraction to said woman. He also literally SA’d her in her sleep, why are more people not mentioning that? In the first couple of books brydie annoyed me and seemed like a super weak FMC, but she’s actually not, but everyone is SO mean to her. However she’s defo got more back bone and strength in this book, I do wish she wouldn’t let people walk all over her and bully her tho, and I want her to reject or hurt gage because he’s unbearable instead of making her attraction to him so obvious. The last part of this book started to pick up & get good. I really enjoy the ancient story of callieach the most. All of the characters are super childish, seriously who acts like McKenzie in real life? I dislike the lack of female relationships in the book too I really do like to have some girls girls somewhere in there. Also Ian’s character was ruined in this book when he threw a temper tantrum and totally abandoned her because she didn’t return his feelings,
Super out of character for him. Overall the characters all kind of suck except for brydie and callieach and Titrus😂even Chloe betrayed brydie at the start of the first book.

Despite my dislike of the MMC, I am enjoying this series!! Like I continue to read it don’t I 😂😂i just hope the characters become more loveable and that the main love interests actually develop some chemistry. I love enemies to lovers but maybe I don’t like bully romance so much, unless it’s done really well- which it just hasn’t been here

Of course Talogren had to find them again, right as things were going so nice! It was too nice! 🥲 I’m so glad we get to save Chloe! Ive been worried about her and knew retrieving her was going to be a whole thing but CALLUM? UGH I CANT WAIT TO READ HIS DEATH. I HOPE THAT NASTY FUCKER GETS WHAT HE DESERVES.

Side note though, now that the Isle of Sky has been compromised- and they are headed to the institute- are they going to take over the institute? Im excited.

Really had me going there on the mountain with Brydie and Gage, I was fuming at him when he fought her. Like sir, your hands were just all up in her shirt and YOU KISSED HER! I know she started it but she thought you were gonna walk away and you literally took her to the ground with your mouth. I think the fuck not.

Im sad that Brydie played Ian though, that was shitty. He’s such a sweetie and i know her intention was not harm, but wow girl you could have kept some of that truth to yourself.

Brydies interaction with Cailleach in the Nether fucked me up, they could have warned the poor girl. I mean for fucks sakes, a DRAGON? Conjured or not, fucking wild. But im glad Mackenzie is lightening the fuck up- she was really starting to piss me off.

Third book of the series, and the story is getting much better for me. I was definitely on the fence for the first two books, but things are improving now that the descendants are not being such asses to the Daughter.

Brydie has come into her power (sigh of relief), which has helped with the tension of the group. However, the angsty love/hate relationship between Gage and Brydie can definitely come to an end now in my opinion. These two need to accept their feelings for each other so everyone can move on to destroying the enemy.

The big bad keeps raising his ugly head and finding our heros, so they’re on the move again with plans to bring the fifth descendent in. Heading over to the next book now to see how this all plays out.

potential… but not decent enough to finish

It has potential the story is there just poorly executed and legit sexual assault while a character is sleeping is okay because the character is attracted to him? Big no thank you.

Just a whole lot of nothing happening here..I feel like as a reader we are meant to fill in the blanks of how each character is developing which is kind of odd… the story is moving at a snails pace..but at the same time the emotions of characters aren’t. It doesn’t fully add up

excellent

Coming into her magic has Brydie struggling to fulfill the prophecy but her feelings towards her Guardian, the threat from the Institute and her dreams, all place hurdles in her path. Great third read in a great series. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
