This story contains a segment of the plot from The House of Death: An Ennin Mystery #70. (Same author.) Otherwise, however, it is an entirely different story.
Authentic, plot-driven Sherlock Holmes stories from bestselling author, Ben Stevens. Packed full with murder, secrets, deception and intrigue. Designed to keep the reader on the very edge of their seat — right up until the very last page. Delve into this Victorian world of dark, foggy nights, gaslight and shadows. Meet the dangerous characters Holmes and Watson encounter — and share the adventures they face. Indispensable reading for any true fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous creation.
A gentleman comes to Baker Street when Holmes is away. The gentleman's brother is missing and came to Holmes to help find him. Dr. Watson listens to the gentleman and goes to the place where his brother went. There is a woman 🚺 who is the owner. Watson spends time talking 👄 and discovers the truth leading to the woman's arrest. I would recommend this series and author to 👍readers of mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 😀😯👒
Watson takes on a case on his own while Holmes is away. Now while I don’t read horror and I wouldn’t necessarily call this a genuine horror story this pastiche certainly had the scariest moments I’ve read in any tale involving Holmes and Watson.
Ben Stevens, while not writing the best Holmesian pastiches, still manages an entertaining enough story that I actually don't mind reading. Plus, he has a nice friendship going between Holmes and Watson, and does not play the dear doctor as a complete buffon, actually letting him be competent on his own. Which, given that Holmes himself makes an appearance only at the end of this short story, was certainly welcome.
The story in itself is quite straightforward, definitely not a case full of twists and turns. And was that a Wodehouse reference, dear sir? That made me chuckle.
A gentleman arrives at Baker street to ask Holmes help in finding his younger brother. Holmes is away so Watson meets with him to get the details. After talking with him Watson decides that this case needs immediate attention and decides to investigate on his own. From their the story moves quickly with lots of dark twists and turns. A surprise ending to the story. A fun read.
I made the mistake if reading this before bedtime... not my best idea. Enjoyed the story though. It focuses more on Watson, and things happen more by circumstance than evidence, making things kind of obvious. Plenty of action, though, and fun ending. Still worth a read.
