Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

Today Newt Gingrich is a Fox News contributor. He is a Senior Advisor at Dentons, the world’s largest law firm with more than 6,500 lawyers in 50 countries and offices in more than 125 cities. He advises the firm’s world-class Public Policy and Regulation practice. He is also a Senior Scientist at Gallup.

From May 2011 to May 2012, Newt Gingrich was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, winning the South Carolina and the Georgia primaries. The campaign was especially notable for its innovative policy agenda, its effort to bring new coalitions into the Republican fold, and for Newt’s debate performances. His $2.50 a gallon energy plan set off a nationwide discussion about the use of America’s energy resources.
But there is a lot more to Newt Gingrich than these remarkable achievements. As an author, Newt has published twenty-nine books including 14 fiction and nonfiction New York Times best-sellers.
Non-fiction books include his latest, Breakout, in addition to A Nation Like No Other, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, To Save America, Rediscovering God in America, 5 Principles for a Successful Life, Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, Real Change, A Contract with the Earth, Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America, To Renew America, Lessons Learned the Hard Way, Saving Lives & Saving Money, Window of Opportunity, and The Art of Transformation. He is also the author of a series of historical fiction books including, Gettysburg, Grant Comes East, Never Call Retreat: Lee and Grant the Final Victory, 1945, Pearl Harbor, Days of Infamy, To Make Men Free, To Try Men’s Souls, Valley Forge, and Victory at Yorktown. These novels are active history studies in the lessons of warfare based on fictional accounts of historical wartime battles and their aftermaths. His latest novel, Treason, is the sequel to Duplicity and is a thriller of Washington intrigue and international terrorism.

Newt and his wife, Callista, host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include The First American, Divine Mercy: The Canonization of John Paul II, A City Upon A Hill, America at Risk, Nine Days That Changed The World, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, Rediscovering God in America, Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage, and We Have the Power.

In his post-Speaker role, Newt has become one of the most highly sought-after public speakers, accepting invitations to speak before prestigious organizations throughout the world. Because of his own unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Newt is able to share unique and unparalleled insights on a wide range of topics. His audiences find him to be not only educational but also inspirational. For more information about Newt’s speaking engagements, please visit the Worldwide Speakers Group.

Widely recognized for his commitment to a better system of health for all Americans, his leadership in the U.S. Congress helped save Medicare from bankruptcy, prompted FDA reform to help the seriously ill and initiated a new focus on research, prevention, and wellness. This is not the type of book I would have picked up on my own to read. But when you are in you mother-in-laws house and she states that you HAVE to read it... you sit there and read it. And no matter what you think, you tell her that it was great.

I was surprised that it wasn't all that bad. As far as my political persuasion, I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat, and have the annoying ability to see both sides of most issues. I know very little about Newt other than his position and the fact that he was a Republican. This book is a fairly good breakdown of what is wrong with our country today, from the educational system, to welfare, to the "war on drugs." There is extensive coverage of the "Contract with America" that the Republicans pushed back in the Clinton years. In this book he claims that it was a success, but with it currently being 2008, I'm not sure what exactly it did for our country.

As far as the politics in this book, he is very conservative, but logical. That's the thing with this book, if you brush away the political spin, this is pure slap yourself on the forehead logic "DUH!" kind of material. If anyone reads this and claims that it is brilliant, enlightening, or world changing... then they must have been hiding in a box somewhere for the last 20 years. There is nothing here that you haven't heard in your high school government class. This book would be very good reading for a high school student to spark debate and thoughtful conversation, but as far as revolutionary... there really isn't much here to cling to. Thank you for pointing out the problems Newt, we already know them... now will someone come up with some solutions!

This is one of the most inspirational and influential political books I have ever read in my 43 years on God’s green Earth. It was one of my required readings during the USC Washington Semester Program back in the Spring 1996 semester, and it was far & away the most enjoyable and stimulating of all those readings. Though I had already been a fan of then-Speaker Gingrich for engineering the 1994 Republican takeover of the House of Representatives (after 40 years of imperial Democratic Party rule), it was my reading of “To Renew America” that gave me greater insight into Newt’s intellect and scholarly brilliance....and in the process, even more disgusted with his detractors in political, academia, and so-called “mainstream” media circles alike.

OK, so this is a bit dated, but it bears re-reading. And I know that Gingrich has been much maligned since writing this--his not so pretty image tainted--but it is a real landmark in understanding who this important political figure was. And even if he's not in power any more, one needs to look at who he was, why he achieved the level of influence he did, and whether or not we should let someone of his ilk achieve such height again. Isn't all political reading of such a nature? But I like Newt (with a name like that, what's not to like). Even before I went to the dark side (yes, I'm now Republican, but after 8 years of Bush I may receded from political leaning all together), I liked the fact that he was an academic, a history teacher even. Hey, with that in mind, he can't be all bad, can he?

I admired Newt Gingrich for years before I found this book. I think that "To Renew America" gives so many great ideas about how this country can be turned around. This book is OLD but yet if these ideas were up-dated and implemented today, we could see great changes in our country. Mr. Gingrich has so many marvelous insights into education, taxation, the economy, the environment and many more areas of our government that need (in many cases) fundamentally changed. Mr. Trump could get a lot of help from this book...and perhaps he has.

Good book. A bit dated, especially when dealing with technology. The content was mostly expected coming from Newt. He has some excellent ideas on taxation and education. Surprisingly, Newt is very much an environmentalist, and his ideas are fair.

I purchased this at a book signing when it was new. For whatever reason did not get around to reading it until now. It is a bit dated but almost all of it rings true today. I just wish I had taken the time to read this at the time it was published. Sit worth a read today!

Read it because my favorite HS history teacher made it an assignment. Enough said.

Good book. Too bad the GOP Congress quickly moved away from the principles of the 1994 revolution that brought many of them to power.

I tried to read this to understand where the ultra-right wingers are coming from, but I couldn't make it through the first chapter.
