This text is aimed at parents of children with ADHD and those professionals working with them. The book covers aspects of the disorder from historical background through to research in 2000, and details documented developments in our understanding of the disorder. An explanation of the basic genetics and brain structure as well as definitions of useful terminology are provided. The author also seeks to address frequently-asked questions and details a range of available treatments including both alternative and more traditional methods, finally presenting the evidence gathered of their successes so far. The book also describes the implications for helping the individual with ADHD, outlining possible strategies to help executive functions, social problem-solving, peer relationships and auditory processing and timing in ADHD.
