I’ve been in love with Ash Johansson for as long as I can remember.

Former hockey player for the NHL, he now has his dream job coaching the team he loves.

Except, while he’s off living his best life, I’m left here.

Not in a loveless marriage, but in something much worse; a lonely one.

Our forever has fizzled out.

So I do the only thing that makes sense.

I move out of our marital home to give us space to think about what we want.

Only he has a different plan.

He’s everywhere I turn. Crowding my space, igniting my body, and sliding back into my heart.

But can we find a way to burn through the icy divide that life has pushed between us and prove our happy ending is worth the battle?

I love them. The story made me smile, swoon, cringe because of the cheesiness, and cry, but most of all, it warmed my heart. 🥹

I'm not a fan of marriage in crisis books, but I'm in the mood for some, hence this one. The story was told in a dual timeline, with the first half set in the past and the second in the present.

Lily (38) and Ash (38) met 16 years ago at an event, and it was an instant attraction for them both. But she quickly left, and after three weeks—call it fate or destiny—they ran into each other once more, with Ash promising not to let her go this time.

The past was sweet and it was heartwarming to see their whirlwind romance and how they fell so hard for each other. It was light, fluffy, and swoon-worthy, among other things.

Then the angst came at the beginning of the present time. Ash's job was demanding as an NHL coach, and he's away most of the time. He'd come home late and leave early in the morning. They rarely meet anymore, and even if their calendars coincide, they're too tired to talk about their lives, jobs, and other topics and would rather rest.

Lily was as busy as Ash was because of her event planning business. She loves her job, and her loneliness drove her to spend more time working than going to an empty house.

These two are still very much in love, and they never fail to express that every day, whether through a call or text. But Lily had become so lonely, and she misses Ash so much. She didn't know what to do to bring them back to the way they used to be. So out of stress, heartache, and loneliness, she packed up her things, and when Ash came home, she told him she's moving out. In reality, she only wanted to leave for a few days to think things through about their marriage.

Ash was blindsided by this, and he begged her not to leave him and to work things out. But then emotions got the best of him, so he told her to go since that's what she's planning to do anyway. Yet Ash ended up leaving their house because he didn't want her to drive in that state.

They were separated for four days, but during this time, Ash made up a game plan with his best friends on how to win back his wife. 🤭 Lily, on the other hand, was worried that her leaving might've pushed Ash away. She thought he's probably mad at her; that's why he's been radio silent the last few days. He wasn't taking her calls or answering her texts.

Anyway, they both made big changes in their jobs, and they reminisce about the time when they were newly married and figured out what went wrong with their relationship over the years. They both acknowledged their faults during their marriage and promised to change them or find better ways to deal with their shortcomings.

It worked so well because they were both all in to save their marriage and to not take for granted this second chance that they have. I think Lily's leaving became their needed wake-up call to finally see things from a different perspective, and they wasted no time in letting each other know how much they meant to them. I love how committed, willing, and faithful these two are to each other and to making their marriage work. 🥹

I'm so glad they didn't give up and that they faced their problems together. They learned to communicate, to be open to what's happening in their lives, and to compromise over things that would make their marriage stable and stronger than ever. 💖

Overall, it was fun, and I love how Ash and Lily gave a heartwarming story. I might consider reading a marriage in crisis book again, but only if the couples were like these two. 🤭 Anyway, it was an enjoyable read for me, and the tears I shed were so worth it. 😂😭🥹

SPOILERS BELOW ⬇️

Ash and Lily have been together for 16 years. Married for 15 years and are sadly struggling with marital issues that all stem from distance, work and busy schedules.

I will say this in case people needed some insight into the drama behind their separation etc.: Neither of them cheat, want anyone else, or ever even think of anyone else. They are both loyal to the core for each other and while we get an OW who tries to cause issues for years but never succeeds try again, it's just her trying to stir shit up.

Lily was a virgin when she meets Ash and Ash had only ever been with one woman before meeting Lily. They meet after a meet cute, and he becomes obsessed and cannot stop thinking about her, so he pursues her. Things move quickly between them, and they get married. Getting flashbacks of how they got together, their few first years of marriage helps you understand who they were before the issues started.

In the present you see Lily struggle with loneliness as Ash is super busy with being the coach of an NHL team after he spent years working as a player and assistant coach. They both have demanding work schedules, so they never get to spend time together and have sex. Lily struggles immensely and Ash knows something is going to happen if they don't change but he is oblivious to how close they are to imploding until Lily has enough and lets it all out but it backfires as she already packed and expected them to TALK and WORK rather than for her to move out and give up, it's a pretty heavy scene where you know they each are not making the best decisions but they also are madly in love and lost their way.

Another thing that also broke them was their struggles with infertility. They tried for years with no success and then they just stopped, and it became an elephant in the room.

Ash decides after that night that he will make changes and win his wife back. He takes time off work to rethink his priorities and if he still wants to coach and spend all his time winning Lily back and rekindling their marriage.

Lily moves out of their home and back into their first apartment.

His groveling is just the way it should be, it was him making efforts to change what he knows he broke with his work ethic. He moves out of the house they shared as it was not really a home for them, he lets one of the teammates live there temporarily which causes issues later.

The OW drama is just a woman who was a puck bunny and tried to sleep with Ash for years in the beginning but he is disgusted by her and she eventually gets a job in the marketing team for the team and has her way in with the guys and still proceeds to cause issues with Ash and Lily when she blackmails them with their separation reveal and her being in their house since she is sleeping with the teammate who lives in their house and she takes photos and videos of herself in Ash's clothes. Thankfully her attempts are not taken seriously, and she is fired and exposed.

Lily and Ash rekindle what was lost but she has reservations about it going back later on to what broke them, but Ash makes a decision that changes everything and that is to quit being a coach and start a company to help with out of seasons therapy etc. for players.

I appreciated how loyal they were, and yes Lily has her insecurities about them and how he might not want her sexually anymore, but he proves her wrong and you know from his POV he still loves her the same and is as obsessed as the he was on day one.

We get to see them in the future with three beautiful kids and happier than ever.

★3.5/5! “She makes me nervous. Lily. The tiny tornado of clumsy chaos with the biggest dimples that set my heart racing.” TOO CUTE I LOVE THEM. younger them are the most adorable things to exist.

“Get in, I’ll drive you home.” I don’t mean to sound so gruff. “Sorry.” I turn back around and soften my tone. “I would like to take you home.” I try again.” STOP SUCH A SWEETHEART so precious

OMG IT HAS ONE OF MY FAV TROPES? I DONT KNOW IF ITS COUNTED AS A TROPE BUT LILY RAMBLES ON WHILE ASH WATCHES HER THEN KISSES HER TO SHUT UP 😭💗

Seeing them struggle in the marriage was so heartbreaking but i’m so glad they found their way back to each other! they are so dying old together no one can tell me otherwise

It's been a while since I read a marriage in crises!! And I was so happy I stumbled into this one. No cheating, just a bunch of workaholics, lol. It shows past when they met and present time. So about 50% of the book was when they first met, which I wish was less, maybe 30% of the book, so we could've gotten more present time moments.

But Ash and Lily were cute in the beginning. The cute dates he did for her, the more he wanted to know her. And she him yes she was a virgin and he took that seriously he wanted to be the one the only one. He did inform her he only had one relationship 2 years ago. Now, the present time Ash is head coach he's always busy but not too busy to text his wife's call, and so on, he wasn't present. Missed dinners, date nights because of work. Now Lily is also to blame because she was working a lot too. So both had a part of their marragie. And I love that he took a step back from his coaching, and his friends/hockey guys understood what he was fighting for! Good bunch of friends they are.

Same with Lily friends even if they kinda handled her with kid gloves with not telling her they were prego because she couldn't. 🙄🙄🙄 she even said, "Talk to her she isn't going to break." We have had drama from some stalker girl since high school. Who tried it again. And tried to blackmail them. I won't be reading book 2 because the guy did sleep with that ow, and she is in book 2, probably causing drama. And Wade seems like a messy story.

Wow! What a cracker of a book to start off a new series. And a hockey one at that - my favourite trope!

Frozen Flames is a captivating story of love-almost-lost and a shot at recapturing that spark before losing your soul mate

VH Nicolson writes from the heart. You can feel the love she has for her characters in every word on the page. She carefully crafts wonderful stories that tear your soul apart and then put you back together chapter by chapter. Her other series are exquisite in their delivery, and Frozen Flames more than lives up to her previous books

Nicolson is new at writing hockey romance, but she's taken to the trope perfectly. I truly can't wait to read the next book in the series as it will no doubt be another roller coaster of emotions. This series is going to be an instant hit.

Ash and Lily are hugely likeable characters. I love how Nicolson has woven her magic into developing the characters so that you are desperately rooting for them. Ash is a hulking bear of a hockey player-turned-coach - he's broody and sinfully hot and only has eyes for his Lily. Some of the dialogue is scorching between them, and the chemistry is off the charts. Lily is hugely loveable as his leading lady, and I loved how her confidence grew from when we first met her.

The supporting cast of characters is fantastically written. My biggest bugbear is probably 1-dimensional secondary characters, but that is never the case in Nicolson's writing. They're always developed into such well-rounded 3-D characters that you want them to have their own books!

I loved this book, and it's definitely one to add to my bookshelf. A future re-read is already guaranteed, and without a doubt, I'd recommend this 5-star read to anyone.

So… I wanted to like this one really, I love mariage in crisis but this one didn’t work for me unfortunately.

I hated the flashback of the past, sometimes I like it but here it didn’t work.
the H/h they don’t have any alchemy , it’s was so insta-love that sometimes it wa so cringe same for the writing.
I hated how the h was weak, all she does in her life was to live and to be perfect for him. She was 40 in the present and acting like a little girl and the same for the H. This was ridiculous. They don’t speak with each other and when she want to move. He started crying ??? Ok, after crying he didn’t want to speak and wanted her to go. After this she started crying and said «  no don’t leave me » girl ?? You wanted it, so why are you crying. Like I said it was ridiculous. Anyway this book was not for me, the second chances was so bad. I did read a lot of mariage in crisis who was well done but it’s was not the case here, I didn’t want to force myself.

Wow I mean just wow!! I am so blown away by this book. I have absolutely no words, but nonetheless i will say, this is in my top 10 reads of this year.
Ash and Lily talk about a meet cute in a painful way, which has us in a twist. This insta love to forever soulmates is just beautiful.
Can this man do no wrong in how he is. And treats the woman he loves like gold! But alas not every thing is hunky dory as days and years go by. That , that true true feeling you get , life is not always a fairytale, that punch is what Frozen Flames gives you.
Lily is this quintessential sweet girl next door with big dreams and aspirations . And right behind her to support and love is our man Ash.
This story gets down to the raw grit and pain these two share and undergo, is a thing of beauty.
Do not skip on this book. It's a must!!

Frozen Flames is a outstanding and is a must-read!

Vicki has surpassed herself with this elegantly written boom. From the very first page I was hooked. It is a hockey romance but has so much more to it, a captivating story of everlasting love and the fight Ash and Lily have to keep that love alive.
Whilst it does cover sensitive topics relating to infertility and marriage/friendship communication it is written in such a graceful way.
This book has sky rocketed to the top of the list as best read for 2023 and Ash as number 1 book boyfriend. A day after reading Frozen Flames I am still thinking of it and it makes me emotional, hopefully it will leave you as speechless as me at this absolutely stunning book.

Thank you so much for allowing me to receive an ARC copy of this book.

This book is a must-read.

Whilst it is a hockey romance that is hot on its own, it is extremely relatable from infertility, marriage issues, friends holding back because of sensitive topics, and so much more.

It is a beautifully written story filled  with love, passion, and fight.

It's a lesson to all that everything is worth fighting for and if you want something and put your mind to it. You can achieve it.

I fell madly and deeply in love with Lily and Ash. Their story made me smile, laugh, and smile again. They filled me love and warmth.

Congratulations, VH Nicolson, on another amazing book. This series is going to be amazing.

Infertility is a tough topic for me personally
But he was just too wishy washy for too long. In his mind for too long he wasn’t sure about putting his wife before hockey
And don’t get me started on her. She left him and was practically begging him to talk to get back with him the next day with no changes.
It’s totally a me issue with this one.

Where is my Ash? WHERE THE HELL IS MY HUSBAND?? I, too, want an obsessed husband and in love from day one and devoted, and can’t keep away from me, and buys me a million flowers, and sets the bath and brings me food; and is just really, really hot. WHERE IS HE? What is taking him so long to find ME ME ME?

So so cute, all feel good vibes, and very mature characters. Mature subjects but still very much a romcom, loved the insight on their past, and all in love just a very cute story.

I really enjoyed this! 5⭐️ for the simple fact alone that I read it in one sitting and it did its job perfectly of distracting me from real life. I’ve been in such a reading slumpy mood too so I’m just glad to finally have enjoyed something this much.

I freaking loved Ash and Lily, the love they had for each other just warmed my heart so much. I’m glad it wasn’t too angsty, I loved that when he thought he could lose Lily he was straightaway ready to do whatever it takes to save his marriage. All their friends and their families were amazing too.

Their happily ever after was so well deserved.

-first 49% was showing them meeting and falling in love. Then the rest of the book is present time.
-dual pov
-both 22 in past, 38 in present
-H is a hockey player then coach
-h has an event planning company

🛑 Look at the author's trigger warning!!!

‼️ While this book could be read as a standalone, this is book 1 in the new Elite Eagle series.

I have not come across many 'marriage in crisis' romance novels, and when Vicki released information about this one, I knew it would be a good one!🫶

I can't begin to tell you how much laughter and tears I experienced while reading this book. Just ask my group of friends about the number of updates they got. I will tell you, I soacked up 4 tissues with my tears alone!🤭👀

Lily was such a wonderful FMC. She was goofy and loyal to those she loved. Ash was the perfect half of her. Ash was quiet and protective. It was lovely to see an MMC who's not a complete player before meeting the woman of his dreams!🫠🥰

Vicki, you never cease to amaze me with your writing abilities! You make it harder and harder for me to choose which of your MMCs I like best! I'm now having a hard time deciding between Knox and Ash!🤣😍
Thank you for the opportunity of an ARC, ILYSM!❤️

4 Ash and Lily Stars

I had mixed feelings reading this book and at one point near the start I nearly DNF'd. I found Lily's character to be a bit odd and I wasn't sure about their initial dynamic , however, I carried on and I am really glad I did because as the story progressed Lily grew on me and I came to really like her.

This is , in essence , a marriage in trouble trope but not because either Ash or Lily has fallen out of love, but because life has evolved and they never see each other. There is a strong theme of difficulty conceiving and the impact this has on both of them. Ash is an NHL superstar - first as a player and then as a coach. Lily is successful in her own right. The story starts in the present , goes back to their initial meet / how their relationship evolved and then it comes back to the present. I liked the secondary characters and once I got past my issues with Lily I really enjoyed the book. The way Ash is determined to save their marriage was gorgeous.

Sports romance / marriage in trouble.

HEA? Yes - Fabulous
Cheating? No

Let’s start off by saying this is the first ever book I have read by VH Nicolson and I was so lucky to have been able to read it as an ARC.
I’m so glad I was able to because I really enjoyed this book. If you know me I secretly love a Marriage In Crisis Trope and this one was done really well!
It gave me all of the emotions from laughing out loud to having tears. There is some trigger warnings so please be sure to look out for them if you’re going to read but this book was just so good.
The main characters, Ash and Lily, were both soo easy to love. I was rooting for them from the prologue! The whole storyline was done so well, their relationship was so beautiful no matter what they went through (which was a lot😩) and the ending was the perfect way to wrap it all up.
I’m not going to say much about the plot because I don’t want to spoil it but it’s set out as The Past, The Present and The Future and I loved that we got to see their relationship develop from the start and then come together at the end.
This is so worth the read and if you’re like me who love’s Marriage in Crisis or even if you don’t and just love a Hockey Romance, I definitely recommend giving it a read😍
I’ll be reading more books from this author now that I’ve read this and I cannot wait to see what the next book in the series brings!🙌🏻

Although this is an ARC read, all opinions are my honest ones!🤍

I don't typically gravitate towards marriage in crisis books, purely because the majority feature cheating, which is a no-go for me. But this was such a hidden gem.

I actually started reading Out of the Woods by Hannah Bonham-Young and put it down because I was crying too much. I then decided to pick this up like it was gonna stop me from being an emotional mess 😂 well suffice to say, I've been bawling all day.

A few things I didn't like was how long the "before" scenes were. I know we needed to get a feel for their relationship and how they met, etc, but it was too insta-love and didn't need to be that long, in my opinion. Her being a virgin 😒 was almost off-putting. Even with the MMC only having one sexual partner (fuck buddy for 2 years) and being celibate for 2 years prior to meeting FMC. They were 22 when they met, she really didn't have to be a virgin. I hated his pet name for her - Tiger is a little bit icky 😂. I've also told my brain that they are not 38 and having a marriage crisis, they're in their earlier to mid 30s😂. I don't know why, I just didn't like how old they were but it really did resonate with the infertility issues.

I loved the angst, it was perfect. I loved how dedicated both of them were to fix their marriage. I love how it wasn't just on the MMC to put in the work. I think one of the main reasons I did not enjoy King Of Greed was because it was all Dom's neglect that caused their marriage to fail and his (lack of) grovel did not amount to the turmoil he put the fmc through. In this book, it was both of them struggling to make time for each other and so they both put the effort in to make it work.

I think I'll go back to Out of the Woods now. And after this, I'll probably hunt around for a few more marriage in crisis books 😬

Ash and Lily have been married for years, but lately their married life isn’t in a great place. Their jobs are both demanding and they seem to have lost their spark, add on infertility issues they’re having and they’re both at their wits end.

We go back to how they met and these characters win you over right from the start, their chemistry is beautiful and their love just screams out at you.

I found myself rooting so hard for these two, they completely belonged together and it was so heartwarming to read about them trying to find their way back to one another. You can really feel how much these characters would do for each other, they’d literally walk through hot coals for the other.

Ash is the protective, broody, sexy, dirty talking book boyfriend we all love and his commitment to Lily is enchanting. Lily is the sweetest character, she’s determined, headstrong and knows what she wants and deserves, can she be my bff? 😂 There’s a great amount of spice and it only adds to the connection that they have.

This book is beautifully written and I adored getting stuck into it, it made me cry sad and happy tears, I can’t recommend it enough. Bring on the rest of the series ❤️

I was given an ARC for review and all opinions are my own.

And then Ash starts.to chase her now Lily does not know who he is. the man of the ice ring hocky. they call him Bear of the Edmonton Eagles. Their love for each over becomes so strong. The scenes between these two are amazing. they love each other very much. But life gets in their way. Lily so wanted a baby, but work took over. and now Ash has to win his tiger Lily back before it's too late. This story will make you laugh cry. And will so touch your heart their journey is amazing. the Author has put everything into this book I so looking forward to book two.

Putting it out there - this is my favourite book of V’s !
Ash and Lily are just the most wonderful, love ever after couples and this book gave me all the feels.

I adored their meeting and falling in love in the past and enjoyed the cuteness and all those feelings of falling in love. Ash was in love and cared for Lily from the beginning and it made me smile so many times

In present time their marriage is at a point that they have been living separate lives for so long, both focused on their careers and loneliness starts to engulf Lily.

Ash ♥️ he realises what he needs to do and sets out on a new path to put the love of his life first and make sure that they have a life together for forever.

A spicy time but the romance between them was just the best, Ash is such a beautiful and endearing character and where are men like him? He’s one in a million. Lily knows what she wants and is such a clever and loveable character, you can’t help but root for her.

I adored this one - V just keeps getting better and better and better and Ash is now in my Top 10 book boyfriends - he’s my favourite character of hers !!

I cannot wait to get some more stories from the Elite Eagles soon. Hope we don’t have to wait too long!!!

Thanks to the author for an arc of this one in return for an honest review. I’m so grateful and lucky to get this story ahead of time.

Brilliant romance 🥰

I’m a sucker for a marriage in crisis romance. I really loved that the story was split into timelines so the reader doesn’t jump in at the start going, “how did we get here?” Instead, we fall in love with Ash and Lily, see the struggle, and cheer them on as they fight to come back to each other.

So good.

While a hockey romance, you won’t be spending massive amounts of time reading about individual play by plays of games.

The very real portrayal of on page infertility is a hard one. I know I cried with Lily and Ash and rooted for them too.

An emotional but fantastic read. I couldn’t put it down.

I am incredibly grateful for the ARC.i

Lily has been in love with Ash Johansson for as long as she can remember.
He's a former hockey player for the NHL, and he now has his dream job coaching the team he loves. But while he's off living the dream she's left behind and starts to feel like their forever has fizzled out. Lily does the only thing that makes sense, and moves out to give them both some space. But Ash is not prepared to let her go so easily.

This has been set in the past and present, so we get to see a bit of Ash & Lily's back story which I enjoyed. I'm not a huge fan of the insta/love/lust trope, but Vicky has done a fab job with this one and covers some very relateable topics.

What a great start to a new series! Who doesn't love a hockey guy!
Marriage in trouble isn't usually a trope I gravitate towards, but Vicki hasn't steered me wrong so far, so I knew this would be great. This read a little differently from the few other MiT books I've read, with the past and present being separate parts of the book, rather than mixed together between chapters.
I really loved both the Ash and Lily, and although their connection was very much insta love, they really grew together.

Thank you so much to Vicki for allowing me to read a copy before it releases! I cannot wait for more from this series, and really hope we get an Erika and Leon story 🫣

Disclaimer: I have received this book as an arc.

What can I say except... wow!
Lily and Ash has definitely received a place in my heart for one of my favorite couples. I have laughed with them, cried, even got slightly irritated.
The book is cut into 3 parts, The Past, The Present, and The Future.
At first, I was skeptical about how their relationship started because it is slightly insta-love, but then I pushed through because I liked their interactions with each other.
Lily is the quirky woman that just wants love, while Ash is the soft teddybear that has a no nonsense exterior.
But what really sold me on this book was during The Present where we as the readers get to see that not all marriages will be sunshine and rainbows. You will still love each other deeply, but is your will to want that love strong enough to fight for it?
Overall, a really good story. Kept me entertained that I was able to read it in a whole day.

A definite must read!

This wasn’t just your ordinary hockey romance book. It was infinitely more relatable from marriage on the rocks, infertility and so much more!

An amazing story about love, fighting for what you want, passion.

As the saying goes if you want something you have to be willing to fight for it and that is exactly what the two MC’s did.

I love both Lily and Ash and their story made my smile, laugh, cry and smile again.

This is going to be another great series by VH Nicolson ♥️
