Witness Lee (李常受, pinyin Lǐ Chángshòu) was a Chinese Christian preacher associated with the Local Churches movement and the founder of Living Stream Ministry. He was born in the city of Yantai, Shandong Province, China, in 1905, to a Southern Baptist family. He became a Christian in 1925 after hearing the preaching of Peace Wang and later became a close coworker of Watchman Nee. Witness Lee moved to Taiwan in 1949 as the Communists were advancing in mainland China. During the 1950s, his ministry extended throughout Southeast Asia and in 1962 Lee moved to the United States, relocating the base of his ministry to Southern California. He gave his last public conference in February 1997 at the age of 91. Many of Lee's spoken messages have been published in over 400 books and translated into more than fourteen different languages. Lee's major work is Life-study of the Bible, comprising over 25,000 pages of commentary on every book of the Bible from the perspective of the believers' enjoyment and experience of God's divine life in Christ through the Holy Spirit. Lee was also the chief editor of a new translation of the Bible entitled the Recovery Version.

Great expounding on Song of Songs. Depicts the cycle and stages of romantic, divine relationship between the believer and the Lord.

Life is a Person.

"The Lord Jesus, who is our life, is a Person. If we do not take Him as a Person, then we do not have life. 1 John 5:12
Moreover, Christ is a Person with the strongest personality!.. He is waiting continually to subdue our personality with His." pg 12

Taking the Lord's Personality --> The Strongest Person

"This book reveals that to love the Lord Jesus requires us to take Him as our Person. But for the Lord to become our Person, we need to lose many things. We must lose our insight, our concepts, and eventually our will, our character, and our personality." pg 61

(Who is this that comes out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke? SS3:6)

"Today, in principle, it is exactly the same. So many Christians in Christianity are seeking spirituality in a general way. But after they reach the highest attainment of spirituality, if they really mean business with the Lord, the Lord will call them to deny their spirituality for the eternal purpose of God." pg 106

"'My beloved is gone down into his garden to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies' (SS 6:2)..
This is very meaningful. We should learn never to care for our feeling of the Lord's presence. Whether we feel the Lord is with us or not, the Lord is still with us. He is always within us feeding, gathering, and shepherding His garden." pg 124

" 'Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as Sheol' (SS 8:6)... Therefore this prayer indicates that she does not have any confidence in herself. She trusts in the Lord's loving heart and the Lord's mighty arm. She is praying in this way, "O Lord, keep me in your loving heart and preserve me by your mighty arm. I have no trust in myself. Even though I am so matured, yet I am still in this flesh while I am going out of this world. Without Your keeping power and Your preserving love, I still may fall. So, Lord, keep me as a seal on Your heart and on Your arm." "pg 145
