The Minnesota Connection is a true story written from police records, interviews with ex-prostitutes and pimps, and the personal experiences of Al Palmquist and numerous other officers of the Minneapolis Police Department.
The primary purpose of this book is to expose serious problems that need to be solved.
Not the fun pulp fiction novel I thought I picked it up.
I can’t honestly give more than two stars because it is only half a story and the constant preaching of the “Jesus cop” is ridiculous. But regardless an interesting piece of history that made me think of parallels today. Still mostly considering a “victimless crime” by society and who but religiously supported orgs are there to help.
The sex trade is far worse today than it was even back then in the seventies. Minneapolis's liberal leaders don't want to acknowledge just how bad it is. The alarmist tone of this book must have put some doubting Tomas's off but the reality has been ignored by a culture who refuse to accept responsibility for their failures.
Heartbreaking what these kids endured and that many people who should have been there to protect them turned a blind eye. Sad that this is still happening today
The Minnesota Connection gives you an eye-opening testimony of many young girls that were forced into prostitution in the 1970s and of how a policman/preacher felt called to help them. It breaks your heart to read how these girls were treated and many still are. It was a bittersweet read and I would recommend it to others who are unaware of such situations or who want to help those who are in similar places today.
