Kathryn Springer grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, where her parents published a weekly newspaper. As a child, she spent many hours sitting at her mother’s typewriter, plunking out stories, and credits her parents for instilling in her a love of books – which eventually turned into a desire to tell stories of her own.

After a number of busy years, when she married her college sweetheart and became a stay-at-home mom, Kathryn rediscovered her love for writing. An unexpected snow day from school became the inspiration for a short story, which she submitted to Brio magazine. She went on to publish over a dozen more short stories for Brio, but it wasn’t until her youngest child started school that she decided to pursue her dream to write a book. In August 2004, her Love Inspired® debut novel, Tested by Fire, was published.

Fast forward to today and Kathryn has written over thirty novels. She lives on a lake in northern Wisconsin where she enjoys long walks in the woods and the change of seasons (although sometimes she wishes the "change" between winter and spring didn't last quite so long!) When she isn’t at the computer, you’ll find her spending time with family and friends, paging through cooking magazines or sitting in the sun. A really, really good day includes all three! If you want to know more, follow her blog Table Grace. . .thoughts and musings on living a life with nothing artificial added.

When I picked out this book, I had no idea it was a Christian book. To my complete surprise and enjoyment, I found it to be a wonderful story. What a great book about contentment. And the guilt that comes from being "stuck" in a place you'd rather not be, but you are there for love. Then you realize it's really where you belong--God knew it all along!

I thought this was a really good book that had me thinking about events in my past and future possibilities. I highlighted several passages to add to my notes near Proverbs 31 in my Bible. I liked the characters and the Wisconsin setting. Kathryn Spinger is very descriptive with her writing and you feel a part of the story. I am already into the next book of this series. Highly recommended for a good "snowed in" read.

I really liked the hidden meanings in this book. The main character really came to find herself and what was really important to her when her daughter entered her in a pageant. She always felt like she was missing something and wanted more. A good Christian book.

Looking for some nice Christian chic-lit? Here you go! Kathryn Springer brings to life a small farm town in the middle of Wisconsin and introduces likable characters, focusing on Elise Penny. Elise is perfectly content with her daily routine and knowing that her daughter is headed off to college to pursue the dreams Elise never could. Just as her life as she knows it begins to unravel, she learns that her daughter, Bree, nominated her to be Wisconsin's Proverbs 31 woman. Elise finds that the more she lets go of our routine and expectations, the less she worries and the more trust she develops in the God with whom she didn't realize she was so bitter...

A lovely, realistic faith journey and natural story-telling make this a welcome addition to Christian literature. Springer does a great job weaving Elise's faith journey into the story without being preachy or phony about it. A good book to read and talk about with a women's Bible study or literature circle.

First world problems...that’s all I can say about Elise Penny. There are some sweet moments in this book and words to tuck into your heart and gnaw on. My favorites are as follow.

“Being caught up with past mistakes, regrets, unfulfilled dreams takes our thoughts off today and can lead to regret or bitterness. And today is God’s gift to us, to use for whatever purpose He has. The same thing happens when we’re so focused on our tomorrows. Proverbs 31 describes a woman who smiles at the future. You can only do that when you trust God with each of your tomorrows and are content with where He’s put you today.”

“Help us to be women who trust You with everything. Help us smile at the future.”

“Though He slay me, yet I trust Him.”

I hate to be cliche, but I avoided this book for a long time because I thought it would be silly based on the cover (I've had it on my shelf for a long time). I was surprised to find a touching, clever, and well-written story. And I was halfway through it before I realized that there's a second book (which I've already ordered). I loved this story and enjoyed each character. I'll now be on the lookout for more books by this author. Highly recommend!

It was an enjoyable read. Good for someone who wants a feel-good story about maturing in a small town. It's about a mother who goes through a relatively rough patch with her family, her community, and her faith.

In a small town, anything new is BIG.
And so Elise finds when she somehow manages to enter a Proverbs 31 Woman pageant. Before she knows it, her popularity has sky-rocketed, while her own inner doubts and unrest triple. Everyone may think she is the epitome of a godly, Christian woman, but Elise knows otherwise, or does she? She is so busy dodging attention and photo shoots with the prized town cow, when will she have time to figure everything out?
I couldn't put this book by Kathryn Springer down. I absolutely loved the characters and situations Springer brought to life. While I laughed so hard, I also found such a touching and deep message in this story. A great inspirational read!

This was a Christian Chick lit book that finds the main character 18 years later after being married at 18 and at a crossroads in her life...her daughter is going off to college and she isn't sure what to do with her life. Little did she know that her daughter enters her into the Proverbs 31 pagent. It makes her take another look at her life and figure out if she is living up to what Proverbs 31 has to say.

Deep and fun!!! Too things I like in a book. I really enjoyed this story about a Mom in a small town who realizes just how wonderful she is and all those around her. It's about contentment and accepting the reality of your life, realizing you are exactly where you belong. It's about surrendering to the notion that God's plan is bigger and better for you so go with it!!!

Great Christian fiction for middle-age moms who need to feel good about their accomplishments in life. The writing of Kathryn Springer is very easy to read; expresses the Christian relationship in a very down-to-earth manner.

This is for all you romance/ficion readers out there who are looking for something clean and funny to read...it's pretty entertaining and I think I'm going to read the next one. Ms. Springer is a Christian writer and I think she did a good job keeping it non-denominational (mostly).

Loved this book and could relate to the main character. So loved the part about dreams changing like clouds to reflect what God has planned for us.
