Anecdotes and profiles of diplomats, celebrities, and the British aristocracy characterize an intimate portrait of Mountbatten of Burma by his butler of fifty years
I was born in the U.K. in the early 1950's to a monarchist mother who taught her children to respect/revere the royal family & aristocracy. It was the thing to do back then - to remember they were of high birth, we were not! This is a well written account by Charles Smith, Lord Louis Mountbatten's valet & butler of the life & times of a V.I.P in the British empire, and the man who committed his life in service to Mountbatten & family. I enjoyed this read because of my early upbringing, as well as the body of history the memoir covered.
