It happens in almost every part of life. We wear down, burn out, and lose hope. While nothing is fail-safe, there are things you can do to halt the downward slide in your family. This book gives dynamic biblical solutions to people who are asking: - Why don't I have passion in my spiritual life? - Is it still possible to restore my marriage? - Can I raise my children to be "on fire" for God? - Where do I start? Bruce Wilkinson shows how, in the midst of a society without morals, a passionate relationship with Jesus is possible -- not just a "mountaintop experience," but an everyday vibrant relationship. This popular book is newly released with an updated cover!
Bruce Wilkinson is recognized as one of the world's foremost Christian teachers and speakers. But he is best known as the author of the New York Times #1 bestseller, The Prayer of Jabez, and other bestsellers including A Life God Rewards, Secrets of the Vine, and The Dream Giver. He is the founder of WorldTeach, a global initiative to train Bible teachers in every nation. Wilkinson also founded Dream for Africa, a humanitarian agency that has taken on AIDS, orphan care and hunger in sub-Saharan Africa. Bruce and his wife, Darlene, have three children and six grandchildren. They live outside Atlanta.
got this book thrown at my head with the warning label “good luck” & honestly...yeah LOL
lots of incredible thoughts & practices!! i couldn’t relate super heavily to the sections on marriage & parenting but i think its interesting that he refers to trauma as “soul wounds”. lots of space for uncomfy reflection :)
I’ve read a lot of very good books by outstanding Christian authors since beginning this journey in earnest over 4 years ago. This one ties them all together.
Bruce Wilkerson’s aphorisms, analogies, and common sense advice make God’s biblical principles leap off the page and transform the Bible from just a book to the essential instruction manual for life it was always intended to be. To experience God’s best, you have to do more than just read the Bible - you have to understand it and apply it. Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs will help you do just that.
An interesting book that shares the difference between different generations of Christians. Those who are on the first chair are COMMITTED with God, putting him first in all they do. This is the chair of David, Joshua and Samuel. The second chair is for those in the middle, not committed but living in compromise, not submitted to the Bible but just respecting it. This is the generation of the Elders in Judges (Judges 1:27-30), that of Solomon and sons of Samuel.
The author shows ways to maintain the fire of God burning and not to remain in the middle.
A powerful tool to help you achieve and receive spiritual breakthroughs in all areas of your life. This book will help you to see where you sit in relation to the Three Chairs and how to stay or move into the first Chair individually, in your marriage, and as a parent! I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to receive God’s best for their life!!
I must admit first off that I read only half of Bruce Wilkinson's "Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs". It is divided into four sections: Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs, Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs with God, Experiencing Spiritual Breakthrough in your Marriage, Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs in your Parenting. And so once I got half way through and finally started enjoying the book...it started talking about areas of life that I don't need spiritual breakthroughs in: marriage and parenting and I skipped to the end...
Even during the first half of the book that I did read, I didn't really enjoy the author's writing style, and a lot of what he was saying wasn't relevant to me. I had just in the last chapter on "Experiencing Spiritual Breakthroughs with God" finally got into the book... so you can imagine my disappointment to realise that the rest of the book didn't apply to me as a single without children!
The chapter I did enjoy was on breaking free from sinful habits, and started with a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon, and as a fan, I really enjoyed the reference... (see the cartoon on my blog-beeinbosnia.blogspot.com)
The chapter looked at sin, and how to break free, and to realise that the secret of happiness is not going back to sin, or as Calvin calls it 'short-term, stupid self-interest'... to quote Bruce Wilkinson: "living in the grip of 'short-term, stupid self-interest' is just not what God has in mind for any one of us. It's not only possible but entirely withing our inheritance to walk daily in a satisfying, comforting, and healing relationship with our Creator God." That is my prayer for myself and for anyone following Christ.
But then, unfortunately the rest of the book was not relevant to me... So, if you are married and have children, this may be a great book for you, but for the rest of you, you can give it a skip! If you want more information you can go here
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group's Blogging for books program. The opinion is my own.
This book is truly relevant yesterday, today and tomorrow. It is clear to me those times when I have placed myself in front of The Creator. I always like to read over this material every now and then. It helps to orient my direction in life and get my priorities in order!
such a great book. healing the heart, going from a 2nd chair christain to a 1st chair follower. i highly recommend reading and experiencing a breakthrough for yourself.
