What defines a God? Is it power? Ambition? Loyalty? Or is it something far greater—darker—than mortals are willing to admit? If the gods are not bound by the promise of death, nor held to the limits of mortality, what is to stop them from taking everything they desire? Good and evil, right and wrong, to live…or die—concepts ruined through the lens of immortality. But vengeance…vengeance is sweet, and they crave its delicacy. Renata Orion has been reborn as the legendary Dark Phoenix— Goddess of shadows and flame. But when she ascended into her godly form, she awoke something ancient and dark within the cosmos. A force that craves to restore balance. Even if it is through death. When her sister, Archer, is taken from her—held captive by this new enemy—Renata vows to save her sister and have her revenge. Aided by Callax and her newfound friends, they must navigate the Realm of Night and fight their way back to freedom through heartache, betrayal, and the potential ruin of a home they only just discovered. Will Renata succumb to the rage that roils within her, or will she use that anger to save herself and everyone she loves?
I would like to begin by thanking the author for providing me with an e-ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review of the book.
The way that book 1 ended was absolutely insane to me and so I was excited to jump into this one. I can honestly say that I had an amazing time and I am looking forward to what the next book will bring for our beloved characters. This book was full of a good amount of spice, action, heart break, comedy, and overall warmth.
Renata really went through it in this book and her journey was honestly so heartbreaking yet absolutely beautiful. She embodied unapologetic feminine rage in this book and we absolutely love to see it. She has endured so much and has chosen to distance herself from everything to avoid further pain, but she comes to learn that feeling nothing at all is not the answer. Her sister is the only person that she allows herself to care for and seeing this sisterly love/affection was everything to me. I would personally burn the world for my sister too. Moreover, I loved how we saw her work through her hurt and anger to grow as a person. The author has such a way with words when it comes to discussing inner turmoil, anxiety, and trauma. I highlighted so many topics about pain and self-acceptance that I know I will carry with me always.
Callax, my love. UGH he was swoony and positively obsessed with his queen. He lived and breathed for Renata and was genuinely pining over her for a good portion of the book. He was so patient, kind and accepting of who she is as well as what she needs. Callax Sundan is so precious and has my heart. I feel like his character also experienced growth and seeing him put down the mask of ruthless prince was so rewarding. I mean yea, he still won't hesitate to tear someone's tongue out, but he is allowing himself to be vulnerable. He literally wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to Renata and he was so unashamed of that. We love a proud simp.
The romantic development continued to be somewhat of a slow burn in this one and when the tension finally burst, it was worth the wait. Callax and Renata are so unhinged together and I honestly love to see it. They are complete menaces apart and together as a couple. Also the SPICE was dsjdwbdwevjweqejqveqkeqekqevqe. Like I said, Callax Sundan !!!!!!!
In summary, I really enjoyed the book and will be continuing on with the series because I love the characters and I need answers to my questions. The ending to this book was unexpected and that was the best thing that could have happened. I am kind of nervous for the ending but I am going to let the author do their thing.
I knew this book was going to have themes that hit way too close to home based on the dedicated alone.
“For the eldest daughters who were forced to find their strength too young. And for the big sisters who want to save their siblings but need to save themselves first. I know it hurts.”
If you are someone who comes from a broken home - this is your trigger warning this book might hurt.
The storyline over all was okay nothing groundbreaking. There is a lot of similarities to SJMs world which made it difficult to rate this higher. I would have loved to see more originality in this fantasy world.
That being said - Ren is a strong FMC. Watching Ren fight for herself against her mind was the reason I enjoyed the story more-so than rest of the world built here.
The last two pages though…. 🫨🫨🫨 I was ready for that.
This series/ author has decent potential and I will be readying book 3!
Before I begin, this book is very entertaining and I am enjoying the story. I’ll definitely be reading the next and any other books in this series. And I would die for Callax.
However-I feel like the author is trying to do too much. I’m not even upset there’s a cliffhanger because I don’t even really know what is happening.
The plot is entirely different, but the characters are SO heavily influenced by throne of glass and ACOTAR that I laugh about it.
Oh my god. This book told a story about how losing someone can lead to you losing yourself. It was raw and it was painful reading everything Ren had to go through just to feel herself again. I thought the journey was well written, and the ending? The ending was phenomenal. (Especially those spicy scenes). I am super excited to see where this story leads. B. L. Talley is a goddess herself.
Right the pro is that the plot, whilst long, is actually interesting and the world is pretty. The powers are cool and the story flows well in terms of what the plot is. But I had issues and I think it's more of an "I don't like characters like these" as opposed to the author's writing. I wanted the characters to be handled differently.
Another pro was the slay moments she and Callax were tag teaming and murdering people throughout the book, they ate that little thing. I had to stan actually!
Anyways...
The first 60-70% of this book tortured me omg it was so annoying to read. I'm really irritated that the books so far are only tolerable consistently towards the end. I thought it was gonna end as a duology so my brain is still processing that ending. 2 key characters were literally not even in this book, they were in it for like 2-5%? I literally despised everyone but the mmc Callax like he's the ONLY ONE with a functioning brain. The MFC is 20 but feels like she's 16 I'm sorry she was soo frustrating.
The worst part and the part that hurts me the most about this book and books like these is that, we read about what a character goes through and it will be really harrowing and painful things that tbf justify their turbulent feelings. But then the character reads as annoying and that ends up overshadowing every real struggle they face like yes the MFC and many of the characters experienced some sort of pain and that can leave you cold and reckless but it's annoying to read because it doesn't elicit sympathy or empathy it just makes you roll your eyes and skip it all. It's as though not a single person can think, all they do is feel feel feel and that just makes for a terrible read I'm sorry, like Callax goes through shit too (although he's had his poor moments) but he's still the only one that didn't make me want to rip my hair out. She treated him like shit at times and idc about her pain and that's what really sucks because I should be able to feel grief for her that she's hurting and wants to be avoidant to protect herself. Like her actions are valid and it's her own personal journey but I didn't want to read about it because I tried to care and failed tragically.
And don't even get me started on Senna and Skye like that whole Kaede convo and them trying to fire shots at Callax about it like shut up. And Senna being a grade A asshole to Ren like babes Skye is your mate, not Ren's, she's not gonna set the fucking world on fire for her bffr she had a task at large to do kmt. I feel like they all became Gods and got super fucking arrogant and annoying.
Maybe im unfeeling and I'm the problem but yh this could have been the most epic series for me but on the bright side, I gained a new book BF.

Welcome to the sequel in the Court of Infinites! this was absolutely a wild ride that is dark, action packed, smutty and full of feminine rage. I absolutely loved this sequel, we slowly begin to start learning more about the lore steeped into this world, the way of the gods and realm of Night. Talley is able to take us on a journey into the mind of someone trying to survive from a lifetime of trauma, the trust issues, the self doubt, the absolute rage and rollercoaster that one must endure internally to survive. The sequel isn't all dark however, Talley was able to create a balance, breathing points, moments of hope that eases your mind... Until that cliffhanger! absolutely something I did not expect.
Just like with the first book, check your trigger warnings, this is still dark fantasy.
*minor spoilers for book 1*
A Promise of Rage and Ruin picks up right where Realm of Shadows and Flame left us and doesn't hold back from falling into the dark realities of what happens when you're captured in war. Our found family is in a rough and broken spot, separated, Skye possibly dead, Callax, Ren, Archer and Kaede captured by the Sun King and no hope in sight. But even with the promise of escape it's bittersweet, left to leave Archer behind not once but twice, Ren and Callax find themselves in the Night court, with a council that isn't as accepting of our Dark Phoenix, their true Queen, as you'd think. When Renata was reborn into her godly being, the Dark Phoenix, Goddess of Shadow and Flame, her revival awoken something dark, ancient, powerful, and they want to restore the balance that was upset. The cost? Renata's death. With her sister in the clutches of the Sun King and this new rival, Renata vows not just revenge but to save her sister at whatever the cost.
The multiple POV comes into play with this book, we get three different views, Ren, Callax and Kaede. The change flows really well here as you navigate the story, Talley was able to create seamless transitions that didn't leave you jarred by the switch that can sometimes happen in multi-pov stories.
If you read the first installment, (which you should it is fantastic) You NEED to pick up this book, this is a sequel that just continues to build on the foundation laid out in Realm. Do yourself the much needed favor of continuing this story.
Thank you B.L. Talley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review, I already cannot wait for book 3!
Thank you to BL Talley for gifting me an ARC of this BADASS book in exchange for an honest review!
This review does have some minor spoilers! Nothing to do with the plot, just some specific scenes that I found sweet and were important to me.
Things I loved: - CALLAX SUNDAN -- one of my favorite characters in the entire book; relentless, ruthless, protective, and kind, he is truly the blueprint. I absolutely love how he fights for Ren throughout the book and fights to protect her at all costs.
- The new world -- the Realm of Night is introduced (well...we actually get to see it) in this book and OH MY WORD I WANT TO LIVE THERE. I'm so curious to see how it changes and how Ren's experiences there change her heart to love her realm more and more.
- The scenes with Oak -- I cried during these scenes because they were just too damn sweet and cozy. After a hell of an ending from book 1, it was exactly what I needed...like a warm hug!
- The horses -- as a fellow horse girl, I so appreciated the different allusions to horses & how powerful these creatures are in this book. It was so fun to get to experience horses in this way.
- The Found Family -- so many things just felt like a warm hug in this book. Ren's experience with her actual family (that she gets to meet for the first time in this book) and her friends (wink wink).
- THE POTENTIAL -- I can't wait to see where this series goes. I have even MORE questions after this book & I am so excited to see how they are answered as the series continues. GIVE ME ALL THE INFO, I LOVE THIS STORY & WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING!
The emotions -- this book runs on emotional moments like I run on iced coffee; it is so real and raw. Ren unapologetically does NOT have her shit together and I relate so hard. Her growth throughout this book is beautiful as she fights for peace and truth and honor through her brokenness and fears
- THE END -- total mic drop at the end. give me book 3 now. that is all.
All in all, this book is just fun. I had a great time reading it & love these characters more and more with each passing moment.
If I could use one word to describe book two, it would be phenomenal.
There is so much raw emotion throughout this book and takes a far darker turn than book one. I was sobbing for so many characters. I loved the idea of not only the main character being essential to the story, but also the other characters we were introduced to have a large role to play throughout the story as well. There is so much heartbreak within this book. Ren has to deal with soooo much throughout this book. AND CALLAX. Hello new book boyfriend. Someone who would really wait until the end of the earth and all life for Renata.
This is a story filled with grief, love, betrayal, overcoming the wrongs done to you, opening up when all you want to do is build walls. I am so looking forward to the next book!
I received an arc of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am still not over this book and I just have to say how in awe I am of it. I don’t think I have ever had a book absolutely destroy me and also heal things in me that I didn’t realise were broken all at the same time. I honestly should've taken the dedication more seriously hahah. Thank you truly for writing this series. I also don’t think I have sobbed so hard over a book, the way that Ren was broken but healing was written so well and whilst it wasn’t always shown, Callaxs depth of character was just so beautiful to see. This has very quickly become one of my favourite series (probably the top one tbh). On top of the deeper things above, the sassy and boss lady things in this book had me physically gasping and just and the more spicy scenes were done so perfectly. I am in love with Ren not being the very stereotypical "I am strong independent women that always takes the high road" the parts of her that were I guess still ruthless and unforgiving made her so much more relatable and so much more fun to read about.

I had the hardest time putting this book down just to get some work done! I loved getting a deeper look into our FMC. So much is being put on her shoulders while she is trying to navigate grief, anxiety, and trauma. Watching her grow and find herself again, while also finally learning to let others in, is heart wrenching and so impactful. She struggles to allow herself to love again. To let someone in that would have the power to break her not yet healed heart. It was refreshing to see a FMC that didn't immediately know how to use her power. That ending has me WORRIED about some favorite characters.
The twists and turns were less predictable than the first book, and the pacing made a lot more sense to me. The plot was more developed, and the writing flowed so well with enough action and intrigue to easily keep you hooked.
Just finished and I am mind blown 🤯 I absolutely love the female main character Renata, she is a complete badass and as the story unfolds you she her overcome so many obstacles both mental and physical until she comes into her own. The character development and world building is insane. This book contains family bonds, epic love, magic, destiny, overcoming abuse intertwined with betrayal, loss, and an ending that I did not see coming. If you enjoy fantasy this a must read on my list! Thank you B.L. Talley for allowing me to be one of your ARC readers in exchange for an honest review, cannot wait for book three!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 🌶️🌶️ I was lucky enough to get an arc of this book and whew was this a whirlwind! Ren absolutely goes through it in this book. The way her trauma was shown and dealt with was beautiful written. I love seeing Ren become even more of a badass as the series progresses. There were multiple povs, which is always a plus. The slowburn was definitely slow but it was so worth it. Callax is quickly becoming one of my favorite book boyfriends 😏 The ending was totally unexpected and I’m so excited for what will come next!
I had to put this book down and stare at a wall multiple times, an amazing read. Do yourself a favour and read the book. From the lore to the feminine rage this book drags you in and spits you out. I wish I could read it for the first time again, it’s going to be difficult to find another book to fill the hole left by a promise of rage and ruin.
Incredible telling of grief, loss, and the scars that remain after emotional abuse. I loved the twists and turns and really happy to see the way the main character struggled to find her way. Excellent read!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading, it's a page turner and will keep you up wanting to know what's going to happen next. check tw's. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark action filled fantasy stories.
This was actually an enjoyable read, especially the last hundred or so pages. I’m a sucker for some good romance so I did shed a few tears during some parts. The way it ended caught me by surprise and I’m genuinely excited for the next installment of this series!!
I Received an (e)ARC copy of this book💜 B.L.Talley does a wonderful job of making you fall in love with her characters and the world she has created. Begging to know more and more.
How am I supposed to go on while waiting for the next book. The development of the MC and seeing her rise against adversity 17/10. Def add this to your list!!
Really enjoyed this book and it continued to get better as I wasn't really into it at the start of the first book. And now here I am hanging on the edge of my seat wondering how long I'll have to wait for the next. This book had me hooked!
I read this as a beta read. I can't wait to reread it as the final copy!
Update: 1-29-24
I finally got to reread this as the final copy and I loved it! This sequel does involve some heavy setup, but I do believe it is crucial to the story. It's important to see our main character, Renata grow and evolve as she gets reacquainted with her new skin. The world-building is also done smoothly and not in a suffocating dump.
What I love about this book most is that Britt has written compelling characters with realistic storylines having real struggles. I love nothing more than to see a FMC struggle and come out stronger on the other side. It's inspirational and aspirational.
I can't wait to see what happens next... especially with Archer (IYKYK)! Also, the formation of the inner circle is amazing and I love a good found family trope. I also just really loved watching Renata and Callax discover more about each other and what it all means.
