As the devouring darkness of the post-apocalyptic hellscape closes in on Alice, James, Ryan and Helen, does dawn's glimmer lie in wait, or are they doomed to succumb to the worst of humanity's ill intent?
Tired of the usual post-apocalyptic tale? Welcome to your new addiction .
The #1 best-selling and most prolific post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus brings a new gripping tale of destruction, survival and humanity like no one else can.
On a quiet evening like any other, virtually anything that uses fuel goes up in flames, killing billions in the first twenty-four hours alone. Remnants of governments reel as they try to deal with the destruction of their countries and decimation of their military infrastructure as their cities burn to the ground.
On a quiet beach in South Florida, Alice Burton and her two children have started the family vacation early - all that's left is for James to fly in from a conference in Colorado. When the small beach town they're staying in is consumed by fire, they're forced to seek help on foot - facing dangers both natural and manmade at every turn.
Meanwhile, at the Denver International Airport, James Burton hides beneath an overpass as cars and planes erupt in flame around him. His survival is not guaranteed, as a treacherous journey through the heart of Denver and beyond awaits him if he has any hope of reuniting with his family.
Back home, on their small farm outside East Lansing, Michigan, Alice's parents are house-sitting, and are about to experience the most intense test of their survival and homesteading skills that they could ever imagine.
A very solid instalment in the series! It was definitely time for the family to reunite, and an absolute delight to meet up with the Amish again. Would have preferred more of the wee interludes to focus on the president and less on events around the globe, as they feel like an out of place distraction to the main story unfolding.

This was another good installment of a good series. The writing and editing are good with the very minor quibble that is the phrase "getting out of Dodge", Dodge should be capitalized. I found the vignettes in New Zealand and Venice a little interesting but most of a distraction that, so far, is not connected with the main story. I like how this all came together to reunite the groups that have been trying to get home for so long, including another important group of people so helpful to James Burton. I also like that the military are good guys instead of the villains that many stories portray. I also really dislike bullies and the one on the Burtons's farm is a bit of a moron, but I look forward to him meeting karma.
The Cooper's have had to concede the farm and all their daughter's supplies to the gang from Lansing in exchange for their lives. Escaping from the meth lab Alice and the kids make their way into Tennessee where they run into the National Guard under attack. Inadvertently lending a hand, they find out James is alive. James makes it to a Guard post in Indiana and is ready to head to Michigan when he hears his family is alive so he heads south instead. We get a few more insights from around the world.
I really enjoyed this book. And when it ended, I was shocked because I thought it would keep going. I have to admit the strongest emotions that I’ve had during this book was when Red and his motley crew started entering the house with their muddy shoes, cutting into the nice dining room table, and just being natural pigs. I think it got me so angry because I know exactly how they feel. Please hurry up and write the last part.
Once again the author doesn’t disappoint. Alice and her children are on vacation at the beach waiting for her husband. James ends up taking cover as airplanes burst into flames. No one knows what’s going on. Danger everywhere , anything with fuel is in danger. Many have already died., who knows how many more. I can’t wait for more by this outstanding author.
I truly enjoyed all five of the End of all Things books. The struggle of the members to get together and reach their home was epic. I look forward to reading the next book. Keep them coming.
The End of All Things is a favorite, by far. Just when I thought I had the next jolt of tragedy figured out, Mike Kraus took me in another unexpected direction. I felt as though I was personally living the storyline. Excellent!
I ripped through this series till the end of 5. Waited a few months and then re read it, now about to start #6. This series is a good one, despite some typos and minor errors. Good job!
What a rough trip full of trials, danger for the family. Old friends to the rescue. Lots of danger but, Helen and Ryan survive the invaders evil plans. This is an epic saga but it grab your interest and doesn’t let go. Great series.
I really like this story. It kept me reading late at night. I hope if our country ever gets to this point we will have more people willing to help people instead of killing each other.
This was the best one yet! Although they weren’t my favorite, the side stories but this book brought them together. Sad that I have to wait for another book but I can’t wait to find out more about the Burtons and Coopers!!!
