The book is a good read, detailing the experiences that the author had while working at a hospital in communist China. The book explores the various patients and their clinical conditions, the amalgamation of Western and traditional medicine in the hospitals and the politico-cultural state of China then. The author reminds us of how faith in Christ alone can make us a new creation, 'The New Man', who loves and cares for the people around him, taking an example from the life of one of his patients.

went to an international medical conference where this doctor was a key speaker. interested on his spin of practicing medicine in a third world communist country. i felt like i was on medical rounds with him. he did a good job describing his emotions as well as those of his patients, comrades and acquaitances. my ex fatherinlaw got his medical degree from beijing so it was interesting to me to compare their experiences.
