In his basically practical letter written to those scattered throughout the early Christian world, James shows how a genuine faith is a tested faith; how encounter with difficulties is an essential part of the growth to Christian maturity. He speaks too of the control of the tongue; of concern for the needy and helpless; of a life of daily purity.
J. Alec Motyer (M.A., B.D., D.D.) was formerly principal of Trinity College in Bristol, England. He has extensive experience in parish ministry and is well known as a Bible expositor. He is author of The Prophecy of Isaiah, and he is Old Testament editor of IVP's commentary series, The Bible Speaks Today. He has written several volumes in that series.
Illuminating little walk through of this epistle. I was particularly appreciative of the exposition of the “wholeness” of James, and showing how a theme was developing through the letter.
