Most will die. Some will survive. A small few will thrive. The mysterious Overlords destroyed all electronics on Earth, imposed a game-like System, and unleashed ravenous horrors upon the planet. But something went wrong. My name’s Arthur, and I should have been a player since I’m a normal human. Or I was. Thanks to a glitch in the System, I’ve been turned into a lowly goblin with the Engineer class. So now everybody wants to kill me, the other monsters want to eat me, and the players want some easy XP. I should be easy prey, but they’re going to find out what happens when you give a goblin engineer human intelligence. They won’t know what hit ‘em.
How do you make goblin engineering boring?!? If you need a tutorial, this book is for you! Also, the fight choreography doesn't work. Like, even a little. So yeah, one star and a dnf.
There are tons of flaws in this book. Chief among them is how little sense the timeline and 'System' elements work. We reach the second day of events nearly at the halfway point of the book.
There's so much suspension of disbelief I can do with regard to really basic knowledge. The MC at one point - on the actual same day of that the book starts - that because the electricity is out, all food in fridges is spoiled, there is inexplicably no other dry or canned food in the two restaurants he visits, and instead he has to hunt and forage for a basic meal. It's weird, nonsensical plot devices like this that run through a lot of the book.
Another incidence of the same is the MC digging a "200 by 200 foot" room out of bedrock, with 10 foot ceilings, in the course of a day. Not using anything particularly magical, just his 25% strength boost, a grappling hook, and some claws.
I think this was AI-generated and touched up by a real person. The prose is fine, if boring, moment-to-moment. However, fights and travelling are both weirdly disjointed and ill-described. Events don't make sense, times don't make sense, and I can't believe someone would write most of this and think it's fine.
So many plot holes! First his hit points regenerate when he levels up, then they don't. Players sometimes drop loot chest, but he always has to loot the bodies but the chest aren't mentioned again. The MC is supposed to be a smart person, an engineer. He should have stayed at work and slowly cleared the building since the basement was built like a fort. Instead he goes on a dangerous journey to join other goblins. How did the system even reach him in the faraday cage? It should have been all or nothing but he gets turned into a monster instead. The list goes on and on! Needs a good editor very badly! If you can turn your brain off and not have a single rational thought it can be a fun little read.
3/10 Sloppy writing that leaves to many holes and really hurts a decent story. Needs so much editing!
Rather amusing book. I've always liked books where the main character had to improvise as they go along, and this one is just one big long string of improvising. Fun stuff here folks. If you're a LitRPG fan, go grab it, you'll find yourself laughing a lot during this one. Not sure about the ending though, Mr. Goblin could always turn down the quest, but it doesn't sound like he will. I'd be interested in reading more in this series.
This book was a lot of fun. It was a different take on the typical system books. It was also fun to read a book set in my hometown, though it is pretty obvious that the author hasn't been here, but that's the only minor quibble I had.
Comedy and gore. Probably an accurate scenario of how humans will behave in an apocalypse. I doubt our little green engineer will ever get the peace he craves.
General disclaimer: I want to be clear in that I do not factor cost into any review and as such, this is simply a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.
The writer tried to make this interesting but failed, the MC was a coward instead of exploring he just stayed at basically the first thing he found,by the thousands 80 percent mark it was just too predictable and boring
Not quite what I expected, but thought it would be an interesting book and was not disappointed. I enjoyed following Arthur's escapades. Well have to see what happens to him next.
Really love the ideal for the book and the unique character Arthur is. Also a fan of the "defy the system" books so it is fun to read more about the world.
