SAS Language Reference is one of the pillars of SAS Base documentation. The two others are SAS Procedures and SAS Applications Programming.

This edition was written for SAS version 6, but its relevance endures through 2026 and beyond. Data steps, SAS language syntax, and functions are covered. There is a comprehensive index. Layout and progression are logical. As a reference, the book is easy to understand for beginners while remaining helpful for advanced SAS programmers. There are numerous examples, accompanied by explanatory prose AND associated statistical formulas.

I've been told that the SAS Institute discontinued most print versions of its documentation and other publications. That is unfortunate, as the print versions are great!

The book's exterior is laminated and can withstand repeated spills. Although soft-cover, the binding is tough; it won't lose its grip on any of the 1042 pages. If you find a non-electronic copy of SAS Language Reference for sale, buy it and take good care of it!
