Our last hope lies with our oldest enemies.

When we lost the war with the vampires, our world changed. The Old Family overlords trapped us in a few scattered cities and demanded our blood. Then Victor- the first vampire I've ever trusted, ever loved- came to power, and I hoped for peace between our kinds. Only now a new type of monster, Day Walkers, has emerged, and their maniacal leader is threatening to destroy us all, human and vampire alike.

The Old Family Council is stubborn and proud, unwilling to acknowledge the danger. But once I claim my birthright as the last living member of the Montgomery line, they will have to listen to me.

Neither fully human nor vampire, I am the bridge between both. Even if I'm not sure where I belong anymore, I know that the only way any of us will survive is if we stand together.

I do wish the ending would of had a bit more to it, it felt a little rushed and almost too much of a HEA in a weird way but overall, this was a pretty solid series with a pretty solid ending. I'm glad I took the time to read it.

Spoilers

I couldn't be bothered writing a proper review. So yea some thoughts:

-Predictable storyline. Vampires vs humans. Vampires need blood, they be bastards to humans. Humans are weak and need an unremarkable boring teenager to defend them blah blah blah. Adults are useless.

-Lame dialogue. The things these characters said… Ugh. Just ugh. I was rolling my eyes at their cheesy declarations and speeches. Ugh.

-Dawn (the MC) was a Mary Sue speshul snowflake — she turns out to be a previously unheard of dhampire, and some long lost descendant of a super old vampire family. She didn't think or say anything remotely interesting or original. So bland like boiled pasta. Yuck.

-Cliched hero. What's a centuries old guy lusting after an inexperienced teenage girl for? The sleazy perv. Why can't he get a girl his own age? He must like them young.

-Cheesy, forgettable and cringey romance.

-Cartoonish evul characters. Evul characters are evul because of daddy issues — so fucking tropey.

-Only half decent characters were Michael, Tegan and Faith (hated that Faith was centuries old yet for 98yrs had sex with no-one because she was so in love with some other guy — get fucking real)!

All in all, rubbish but I've read worse. I think people that are huge fans of the standard paranormal YA will enjoy this. I'm officially over the genre.

Well, I liked it a lot. But the authors played the conclusion to this trilogy way, way too safe. I am a sad panda.

I remember picking up the first novel in this trilogy and thinking "whoa, that was... different. Like, good different."

The second one I got my hands on as soon as possible and thought "aight... that was a little too neatly done and convenient but who cares? There's a whole 'nother book to come!"

The third one I pre-ordered, downloaded it at 12:01 on the Tuesday it was released, and dug right on in. And After Daybreak was just as surprising as the 1st in the series, yet just as obvious as the 2nd.

The surprising parts came pretty early on in the novel and were well-done. I did NOT see the town of Crimson Sands coming. But... as soon as I 'got it' I realized where the book was going.

Likewise, the shocker about Dawn's heritage, mostly revealed in the previous book but really clarified in this one, was a surprise... but... kinda... flat after it was revealed.

All in all, I really liked this book - I really liked the series as a whole. The romance, the world-building, the characters. All rock solid. Different. A great change of pace in teen fiction littered with Vampire romance.

****SPOILERS*****

But I feel like the authors played this conclusion way too safe. Everyone made it out okay, there was a happy ending for all involved, no one threw a beef at Dawn's heritage, Denver fell into the routine of Crimson Sands too easily, and the general 'easiness' of the final battle (could it be called that?) was just... blah. What the Old Family members found in LA - blah. How Dawn and Victor escaped from Valentine Mansion when unexpected Chosen showed up - blah. The fact that the entire city of Day Walkers in LA was just neatly and conveniently taken out by a crazed Sin... I mean.. c'mon. Really?

Safe. Just way, way too safe. I hope these two team up again, and I hope they take more risks with their next story.

It's finally over and the third book of the Darkness before Dawn and was awesome... I really enjoy them very much and i feel a little bittersweet that i'm leaving Victor and Dawn(and the rest of the group of course...) behind me...
It was a beautiful story, much different from many of that kind and i'm so pleasure that i finally read it... Thank you J. A. London (both of you) for the "world" that you have imagined and because this world you have shared it with us!!!
It was so great!!!!!

I really enjoyed reading this series. It was a different take on vampires and humans living together, Full of action and a love story. Except the ending was a little lackluster. The whole series it builds up to this epic fight and how a relationship can work between human and vampire. Once you get to what your waiting for it feels like the fight was to quick and easy and the relationship has no finality to it. You can come to your own conclusion with victor and dawn but it would have been great to see how they end. It just seems like nothing really changes between them. I can get over the finale battle it's explained and detailed, but to lead us along with this romance and then nothing to end it just doesn't sit well.

The last thing that isn't explored more is Dawns bloodline. Does she eventually gain more vampire qualities? Does she age as fast? What's really the point of adding this exciting factor if it isn't going to be explored very much.

In the end I am glad I read it and enjoyed it. But there are still some unanswered questions in my eyes. Maybe it's just me and I'm a sucker for romance and knowing everything about the characters when a story ends.

While I liked the end result of how this series ended, I'm not sure how I feel about how it actually got to there. I was expecting a war. I was promised a war. And in the end.....no war! Things resolved themselves in an unexpected, easier, less exciting way. Instead of a war, there was a fight, albeit a difficult fight, still a fight is a far stretch from a war.

But overall, I enjoyed this book. It was good having Dawn and Victor back together, and it was good to see the impact their relationship had on the humans and vampires alike. Though we get a small POV from Sin at the very beginning, I feel another one or two would have worked well throughout the book. I feel that some important things in this book may have been left a little indistinct and that this book should have went on a bit longer to fill things out. A few plot holes that I feel could have been better finished off.

I would still recommend this as a series though for those who enjoy a vampire read. As just a really good paranormal series, maybe not so much.

WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD

Omg, the feels! Sin's death had me crying like a baby! I know he was a bad guy and he needed to go, but really... he was just a boy who wanted to be in the sun, wanted his family to love and accept him and he never got that. I can't say that I liked what Sin was doing, but I liked him. I just wanted to give him a big hug!

Now, onto my review. There were many things I loved and many things I didn't love.

The things I loved:
Ian had a big role! Yay!
Vampires and humans become friends and work together toward a new World Order
OMG, TEGAN AND MICHAEL FOREVER
Omg, Rachel's pregnancy was an amazing add!

Things I didn't love:
I understand that there was a ton of crap going on, but why couldn't the Dawn/Victor fluff been a bit better?
I also understand this one, but I still wish that Dawn could have been turned so that they could have forever together
I felt so bad for Eris!

Overall, though, I adored this final installment! It was a great series and I'm so happy I read it!

After Daybreak has exceeded my expectations, and was more then I could of ever imagined! When I read Darkness before Dawn, the first book in this trilogy, I was hooked! This series captivated me, called to me, and stolen my heart! The desire, devotion, and determination of Dawn's character just captured my heart and sucked me in! She wanted an new way for her people and vampires alike. She wanted them to be able to live as one. Forge an alliance, and except each other for who they are. And she was determined to see it happen one way or another...

This series is definitely one of my all time favorites, and will live in my heart from years to come! As always the writing was captivating, addicting, and heart-throbbing! After Daybreak has everything a reader could possibly want and more! It had action, adventure, twist and turns, loyalty, war, an amazing plot, and of course a juicy ROMANCE! It was amazing, with surprises around every corner. When I thought it couldn't get anymore amazing then it was, then BAM, I was tossed another crazy thing I didn't see coming! Phew...I mean this series is definitely one of a kind, and I am so sad to see it end! Why does it have to be a trilogy, WHY? Why couldn't it have like 6 or more books?? I would read them ALL!!

Anyways here's the Plot:

This book picks up exactly where book 2 left off. With Dawn and Micheal fleeing the mountain top to escape from the manic Day-walker Sin, and his insane desire to conquer the world with his infected vampires, the Ones called The Chosen Ones. The Chosen Ones are infected with the Thirst by drinking Vampires blood, not human blood! It drives them insane, eating away at their brain until their body becomes uncontrollably strong, with razor-sharp teeth that form where their fangs once were. Sin, the ruler and creator of all Day-walkers, has been drinking the blood of his Day-walkers for years. Sitting in the shadows, waiting for the blood to take effect and consume him, so he can become infected. The Chosen Ones are stronger, faster, and unstoppable to any Day-walker, lesser-vampires, human and even the Old family. His time is near, his plan is in motion, and his Day-walkers are in place, all he needs is the blood to fully take effect. Then he can become infected and run through Vampire cities, and take them over one by one, until he's conquered them all!

As Dawn and Micheal race down the mountain to escape Sin they realize Micheal is injured badly, and in need of serious medical attention. If not he might not make it back to Denver alive. Just when all is but lost, they come across a town willing to help them. In this town they find something they never could of imagined. A new beginning! A new way for vampires and humans to live in peace with each other! And they think maybe, just maybe, all is not lost and they can all live as one!

With the newly discovered information that Dawn and Micheal found while in L.A. they start planing immediately on how to take down Sin and his army of Day-walkers and Chosen Ones! But they can't do it alone. They need the help of Old Family if their going to be able to put and ended to the Thirst and take down Sin and his Army. The Chosen Ones are strong, stronger then Old Family. So they have their work cut out for them if their going to succeed.

Dawn is still struggling with the fact that she has Vampire blood racing their her veins. And that the Montgomery's might very well be the lost family on the Vampire tree. But the most scariest part about it all, is that she might very well be related to the most evilest thing on earth, Sin! Oh, and theirs still the problem of the death warrant out for any living Montgomery's! So if she's revealed to the Old Family, and they still want the death warrant fulfilled, then she might not make it out alive! She has to deal with all this while preparing to take down Sin, and keeping her feelings for Victor in check. And she thought it couldn't get any worse, She was wrong!

The odds are against them, and if they don't get help from The Old Family soon, and come up with something fast, then Sin will get what he wants and take over, and make the terrible world that they live in now seem like paradise to the new world that Sin will create!

I loved it, Truly an EPIC Series that will have the reader staying up late and craving more! This series ended on a perfect level with enough closer, even though I would of liked more of the New World Order but it was enough that I can except that its over!

This is one of the few dystopian book series that I actually like, since it doesn't involve "Love" as a disease and one exception (heroine) in a society of ten thousand people who can feel it. I love the vampire aspect of it as well since I'm a big fan of everything supernatural and paranormal.

This was an amazing ending to a beautiful trilogy. I would have loved to see more Dawn & Victor moments, but the action got all the priority in this novel, unfortunately. The character development was incredible, especially with Faith and Richard as a couple. Sin was off the charts weird and vindictive, which was fun to watch, though everything set it's self right in the end.

I really liked Faith better then all the other characters in this book, mostly due to her awesome one liners which would consist of 50% of my favorite quotes for this novel. Don't even get me started with her wardrobe choices.

Basically everyone got their happily ever after which isn't hard to except considering this is an YA book. I actually like when something goes wrong and the author leaves a few ends untied to maybe continue the series in the future. To my dismay this does not happen with this series.

Favorite Quotes:

"You command empty space. You are masters of falling walls."

"I have become a God. And I will be a lonely God. For nothing will remain once I am finished."

"Don't annoy me. My hand might accidentally slap your face."

This was a fitting conclusion to an awesome series. It felt like each successive book was building up to this third and final book, and it did not disappoint. The number of action sequences, conflicts, and plot twists made it hard to put this book down. As with the first and second book, the characters continued to develop in this book; it felt like you're getting to know some of the characters in a new light.

One thing that some people might find to be a problem in this book is that despite all the challenges, the result seems to have been wrapped up in a nice pretty package. I didn't mind this one bit, but I would guess that some people might see this as playing it safe on the authors' part.

There is still one question that is left unanswered for me, which is something to do with Dawn's heritage.

Overall, it was an enjoyable book and series. Although it's a YA series about vampires with a strong romance plot arc, I found the execution to be different compared to other books in the same genre. Now that I've read all three books, I'm glad I didn't let my initial impression deter me from giving this series a chance.

Another series comes to an end. And this one has joined the list of quite disappointing endings. It is not a bad end, but, as it's usual with dystopias, we are not shown too much of what happens after the conflict is resolved and the world/society is rebuilt. I'd love to see more of what comes after, but it was not this time.

Here, we see the impact of Sin's huge revelation at the end of the second book. I have to confess I was expecting something a bit more jarring than what happened, that is, Dawn claiming her seat in the Vampire Council. That was, in my opinion, the logical thing to be done. But what really bugged me was how short the climax of the book (Victor's and Sin's fight) was. After all the buildup of the hate between them in the first two books, the authors spent only one chapter to solve the whole mess.

There is no lack of action scenes, but the plot itself is quite flat. As someone else has already said, the authors decided to play it safe, but it was way too safe. They should have taken a lot more risks (maybe they should ask George R. R. Martin for advice on that?) and that made the book a bit disappointing, even more so when the amazing first book is taken into account.

I just finished this book and let me just say, Wow. Although this book leaves some questions in the end, it is still a magnificent book. I would definitely recommend this to those who have been following the trilogy. This book has a slow beginning, but nonetheless enjoyable. Spoiler alert: The only person who dies is Sin and his army. But I never would have believed this: Sin destroyed his own army!!! After 20 long years that's what happens. Why? Since he became infected with " The Thirst" he drank every vampire he created. Also, Tegan and Michael get together.

It's weird, I REALLY LIKED the first two books, but this one- maybe it was just the way it ended- so abruptly-- I mean it was a satisfying ending, but after such a build up- hmm, I'm not sure how else to put it.

WOW! What a finale. As much as I adored this final book in the "Darkness Before Dawn" trilogy, I am feeling slightly depressed that it's over. This book (just like book 2) takes off right where "Blood Kissed Sky" ended. The world is on the brink of another war, this time with the Sin and the Daywalkers at the healm. For the humans and vampires to have any chance of coming out victorious they are going to need to put their differences aside and form an alliance against Sin and his army of "The Chosen". At the end of book 2, Dawn uncovered secrets about her past and heritage that would change her forever. She is a damphir (half human/half vampire) from the Old Family Montgomery that was nearly wiped out after the vampire council put out a death warrant for all Montgomery's many centuries prior. She now realizes her role in this world is a lot greater than she ever could have imagined. She alone has the power to bridge the gap between humans and vampires to find a peaceful coexistance that was never deemed attainable before. With Victor by her side, she now feels that anything is possible. With the threat of Sin and his army breathing down their necks Victor and Dawn head to the Vampire Capital to meet with the Vampire Council to plead their case and hopefully gain a powerful ally. However, this dangerous mission could also mean death for them both.

In this thrilling final chapter in the "Darkness Before Dawn" series, former enemies must put aside their hatred and prejudice in order to defeat a common enemy of the likes of which no one has ever known. With her love for Victor growing stronger each day, Dawn realizes that together they can acheive what would be impossible apart. In convincing her human and vampire friends and allies to come together for this greater cause, Dawn sees a future that was only ever a far reaching fantasy becoming reality.

My only qualms about this final book in this series is that the author didn't allow us a more detailed view of the future in a longer epilogue or even a fourth book. After everything Dawn and Victor (and their friends and family) faught to achieve, I would have found a greater sense of closure in knowing what happened next for them. Do Dawn and Victor get married? Have children? Is Dawn's vampire side continuing to develop? Do Richard and Faith get married? Same for Michael and Teagen. If I were writing this book, I would have at the very least included an epilogue that delved deeper into the lives of all of the main characters (especially Victor and Dawn) and answereed all these questions and more.

Nonetheless, I was still extremely satisfied with this series as a whole. I felt like the story came full circle from book 1 to book 3. I only wish there was more. Hwoever, I guess in this case my imagination will just have to do!

This is a MUST MUST Read! The world created in these series is truly unforgettable and one you won't want to leave once you've finished reading all 3 books.

Original Review Here

"In spite of our audience, Victor and I race towards each other. I collapse against him, wrapping my arms tightly around his neck as he brings me nearer. I'm overwhelmed with a sense of relief at being this close to him again."

Overall this was a pretty good series. The first book was just so so for me, but I actually liked the second book quite a bit. There was more mystery and action in the second book. This book had great potential to have even more action and suspense, but it fell rather short of that. It all felt anticlimactic. I was waiting the whole book for this big event and it never happened. The "battle" at the end was very short lived. It was like the whole book I was shouting FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! I'm not violent... but this was a bit like Twilight where they all stared and talked to each other in the 4th book instead of a battle. Just sayin, battles can be cool.

I really liked the characters in these books. Dawn was a strong and courageous character. She showed a lot of intelligence in this book when she needed to act quickly and strategize. Even when standing before the Old Family, she doesn't back down or cower. Victor seemed to take more of the supportive role in this last book. Dawn is more of the driving force with the mission to defeat Sin. Sin's ultimate plan with the "Choosen" was about as good as this plan:

When I got to the ending of this book, I realized that I shouldn't have been surprised with how things went with Sin. I overestimated his level of crazy. Thought he would reach that level much later. Dawn and Victor spent most of the book together and the romance was very sweet. I thought it was going to be a whole star crossed lovers thing, but that was quickly resolved. Those guys that are all "we can't be together because you are not safe with me" annoy me sometimes. I've read some other reviews for this book on Goodreads and quite a few stated that this book was too safe. I have to agree, especially when you consider going from a dystopia all the way to what seems like a utopia. However, the book did have enough going on to keep the story moving at a fairly steady pace. Not the best of endings to the series, but still a good one.

Hmmmm, Im verging on a 3.5 stars but I'm still unsure!!

This is book 3 of the series and there may be spoilers for previous books!

Dawn and Michael escape Sin and finally get back to Denver to tell them Sins plan. They are shocked with what happened in LA but have their own worries. Denver is being attacked all the time by Day Walkers. They need to figure out how they are getting in and stop them.

Dawn has to face the Vamp council to try and get them to help in the coming war and prepare them for whats going to happen. She knows her heritage may put her in danger but sees no other option. She must embrace who and what she is in order to get help. Who will win the war??

Im a bit disappointed with After Daybreak to be honest.

************SPOILER*************
After all that happened in the last 2 books and all the gearing up for the war, then to not happen?? I felt a little cheated. I was reading this and waiting and waiting for the coming battle and it never came!!! **********
I really enjoyed it other wise but hated the ending. It was way too safe!!

In the final installment things wrapped up OK albeit a bit boringly safe. I ended up really liking Michael and Teagan. They grew so much from annoying characters to great friends of Dawns. I'm glad they had a happy ending. I really liked Ian and Id love to see a short story about him and his life!! Victor is as awesome as always. He is a worthy hero and I love his relationship with Dawn.

Whilst there was one or two surprises I found After Daybreak to be less exciting then I thought. There was plenty of awesome fight scenes but I wanted more from this. I wanted heartache. I wanted to be on the edge of my seat. I wanted to see more of Sin and his transformation. He was an intriguing bad guy and I would of loved to see a bit more of him in this but sadly it didn't happen.

Overall Id still recommend this series to people, it reminded me why I love Vampire books and added that bit extra with The Thirst aspect.

It has all lead up to this..the final fight with Sin, the creator of the Day Walkers.

After Daybreak did not disappoint. We were left with question in the previous novel and we finally get all our answers. There's plenty of action, suspense, and of course romance!!

What I loved about this book was that Dawn stood up for what she believed in and dealt with everything she was handed with dignity and grace. The way she matured was something we got to see from the very first book and it's what helped her succeed.

We meet the 14 Old Families in New Vampiria, and we get to see how the Vampires truly live. It was great to see both the humans and vampires way of life because I feel it gives us perspective, that not everything is as it seems.

I personally loved all the side characters in this book! Richard and Faith finally settle their differences and THANK GOD FOR THAT! I'm even glad to say that I've grown to like Tegan! We can't forget Victor though!! He was so sweet and protective and not to mention a complete bad ass! Even though it took some time, I was happy that Victor understood that humans are not part of the problem but part of the solution.

The final installment of this trilogy was phenomenal and I couldn't have pictured a better ending. I'm sad to see it end but it always makes me happy when I can say that i'm completely satisfied with the way things ended in a story, especially with the characters. J.A. London, you outdid yourself with this series and I give you mad props! Thank you for introducing us to these wonderful characters!

Overall Honest Book Review:

characters:
I'm not going to go into detail because I have written about these characters in my previous reviews of book 1 and two. Just know that they stay to their characteristic, but there aren't too many progression of active growth. That's a big bummer for me.

Protagonist:
Dawn to me didn't progress but I still really liked her charisma and needed to do what was best for her people. She has a drive in her that makes her a survivor as well.

Villain:

Sin is still a deranged villain who should die. Nothing's changed there.

Plot:

The plot progressed very well and went along with the past two books. I didn't find anything confusing or overwhelming. I felt the plot was very intense actually. A bit of a nail biter and page turner. This book probably had more action than the other two by far.

dialogue:

The inner dialogue was probably the most powerful part of this book.

Emotion:
The emotional scenes pulled you in tainting the book dark and still somehow allowing hope and light to shine in. I had a few dominate emotions through this story; hope, worry and happiness.

Ending:

The ending was the best part. I felt as if everything tied together nd you get the result you crave for.

I just finished the book, and i could only say: WOW, it is writen amazingly, but the last battle could have been more long, more fascinating. But mainly it was just amazing. The characters, seeing Faith from new angles, her fears, that was super cool, and really nice of the authors. Though one wistoon still remains, yeah they defeted Sin, yes vampire and humans live happyly, but what about Dawn and Victor? She is to get old eventualy, right? So what? Or her drop of Montgomery will give her immortality? That will be deffinately awesome, but still, i think that the most intriguing question was not answered, but still. The book is amazing, who hasn't read it just read it all three books, will fascinate you, and you won't regret. Trust me, i choose my books, and fisrt i was just intrigued by the cover which was so like Fallen by Lauren Kate, but it is worth it. Deffinately worth it!!!!!

The third book was almost perfect. The epilogue gave us a little more in the end but it was just lacking enough info. I think the authors failed to realize how invested the readers would become in everyone's story and we wanted a complete resolution, not just hints of it. I'm happy to know how Dawn's story ends, but what about the others? I'd like a glimpse into that. The story just ended to abruptly.
With that said, it really was a perfect story. It had a little bit of everything and I was really drawn into it. It was very well thought out and I love that the authors don't drag out every little thing. They seem to know where we would need more details and where we would want just the event quickly. It was fast paced and well balanced. I really enjoyed this trilogy and definitely have a book hangover now.

Its not bad but not the best book. I regret paying the amount i did for it
This book let me down i think it was because the author spent to much time describing the surroundings rather than peoples appearances and personalities. For example half way through the book i find my self forgetting who a certain character is or what they look like. I forgot what Victor looked like and i seriously had no clue what color eyes he had; hair he had; was he tall; built like a tree or a toothpick. I was honestly finding myself getting lost quite a lot and it was a shame because the story line is good and i like the personality of Dawn and how she deals with being Delegate (i thinks thats how you spell it)
I also feel like at the end of the book things were rushed or slowed down maybe so that.. well i don't know why but that was the impression i got.

Despite how cliche this got sometimes and the way everything happened so conveniently I actually enjoyed the story overall. The ending was predictable but I've enjoyed the twists along the way. There have definitely been some questionable events that make me think areas of the plot weren't thought out well enough or delved into deeply. Especially regarding a lot of the sustainability between the two races. I admired Dawn's strength, her political knowledge and plans (though some of these I felt were a bit simplistic and glossed over which I attribute to my earlier point about plot development). I loved Victor's belief in her and the way he was a constant. No more dark, broody vampire. We have a sweet guy who saw a human female as his equal and believed in her.
