I am an avid reader who decided to write late in life. The joys of writing are many-fold. It allows me to escape into my imagination and create new worlds and live in the minds of my characters.
The stories I read growing up inspired me to write. I am interested in historical fantasy and within that society, examining the human heart in conflict. I like to place my female characters in difficult situations and see how they learn to survive with no actual power. And watch my male characters fall in love while fighting for king and land. I love exploring the struggle between love and duty.
The story is awkward to follow due to the repetitive sentence structure, odd use of the language, and unusual names. I usually love reading stories written by non-native English writers as they often have fresh and original ways of describing things. This story is simplistic and lacks immersive details. It feels rather immature, more like a young person fantasizing and day dreaming than a fully realized story of a character on a complex journey. I stopped at the 10% point.
If you want a light read with romance, adventure, mystery and twists, this is the book for you. It is not a run of the mill love story... it keeps you guessing and wanting more. It is a story of the conflict between one's desires and one's duty to the kingdom. You think you know how the next chapter will go and then there's a twist!!! Loved it... looking for the next book in this series.
