Another great book. But again, it in Audible it was read by an automated voice. I have found that there is the continuance of a fourth book, but so far haven't found it in Audible, Libby or Hoopla.
Now that Katherine has the pendant she decides she needs to further investigate the house. The author builds up anticipation with every scene. Whether that be when Katherine tries to find the center of the mansion or she tries to find out who the ‘men in black are and what they have to do with the mansion. The deeper Katherine delves into the secrets of the mansion the more questions are unanswered. Not only is this mansion creepy as all get out but Katherine seems to be in danger whenever she goes back to the mansion. I could almost feel the draftiness of the secret staircases and many times I wanted to shout at Katherine to, “Go back, this is getting out of control!”. Of course I could not do that so I read on to see what would happen next. The final chapters gave closure to this disturbing family legacy and I was glad to get to the end fairly unscathed.
So here I am at the end of this series. I think the story was good. I still didn't like the main character, Kat, she seemed kind of entitled and pushy to me ( yeah maybe because I'm one of those people that hates waiting for others and like to get a job done quickly), so I was really frustrated when she kept putting off phone calls and tasks, I just wanted her to get on with it, so I kind of read the first part quickly, but was happy when the action started and we got to the meat of the matter. I had an inkling where it was going and liked it. I would like to have heard more about the men in black earlier in the series as well as some other characters. The house was very interesting and the boyfriend was cool.
The mystery and suspense finally joined us for this book! It was finally the main focus that I had been waiting for when starting this series. However the ending was still very underwhelming. The build up was quite good but then it kind of just ended and with little effort and minimal explanation as to what happened even. Felt a bit anticlimactic. Still definitely the best book in this trilogy by far.
Kat and Kirk are still working at Blackstone manor after everything that happened. Kat is obsessed with the piece she found she believes it holds the key to everything. Who are the men in black Kat sees? The manor hides secrets so is someone else. Help comes from unexpected places. Creepy read full of twists.
This story is understood best if read in order. Some characters you will like better than others. I liked Kirk. And even though he only had a supporting role, I liked Shane. But my favorite was Wendy.
Loved this series! The storyline and characters just drew me in and kept me reading. Just when I thought I had figured the story out, another twist. Great read! On to the next!!
