I'm a novice hunter, my goal is to put in for the draw next year for a mule deer hunt. To that end I've been trying to study up as much as possible about how to hunt them. Lacking any direct experience I cannot say if the author is correct or not for his advice. That said, this book is easy to read, the author combines his personal hunting stories with field observations from other hunters and biologists to provide a engaging inquiry of mule deer behaviors in their habitats. He covers a lot of ground, figuratively and literally. If there's a mule deer population in a geographic location from the Western States of Idaho and Utah across the Great Plains to the forests and foothills of Montana, he's hunted them. The theme running throughout is basic: know the land, know the mule deer, know the season and know how the mule deer bucks interact with the two.
Easy 3 stars, maybe 4 if I can try out his recommendations successfully.
