Excellent book about integrity and how to have the courage to stand up for what you believe in and what is right. Highly recommended, especially for teens going off into the world or to college. Or any student above grade ~5.

I recommend this book to all who value life standards and recognize the worth of those standards. Miss America 1984 has given us a valuable guide to keeping high standards in life. In order to maintain our personal integrity, we must never compromise our standards. Our standards in life are black and white and every time we introduce grey areas into our lives, we are compromising those standards. I agree whole heartedly with what Charlene has stated in this book. I haven't always lived up to those standards but I am trying to do so. Ultimately, those standards are to become Christlike. This is a lifelong endeavor and it should be our focus in life to do our business and our personal interactions with an eye single to Christ's glory. In other words, how would the Savior handle this situation? Then, we do likewise. I think Charlene has expressed this desire in her life and has shown the rest of us the way to do that.
Thank you, Charlene, for sharing your life experiences.

As far as Church books go, I think this one was really interesting. It was a little outdated, since most of the experiences Sharlene Wells-Hawkes talks about are in the 80s (and even earlier). But that would be my biggest complaint. I thought her stories were interesting and I loved reading the responses she would give the media about Church-related topics. I would love to meet her someday because she sounds interesting. I think she makes a great role model and hopefully my daughter reads it someday.

She's a great person and role model (but seems just a little TOO perfect,;) I enjoyed reading her stories of strength and faith in front of a large audience.
