Day Leitao believes in the power of stories, the power of characters, and she writes books with heroes (of both genders) finding their own magic and opening their hearts. Of course, there's also the banter and all the shenanigans that happen when personalities collide. 😂
Originally from Brazil 🇧🇷, she lives in Montreal, Canada.
Day Leitao has created a world that has been so much fun to explore with characters that grow on you pretty quickly. To see their struggles continue in this book has been different from the first one because the issues addressed are so different. But this has rounded up the story quite nicely, I just would have wanted to understand what happens in the Hollow a little more but I think that is all due to the characters in the book not knowing more. Same with the big enemy. You only learn what the characters learn and the picture isn't complete. Which is a little frustrating but it's also completely fine. I would really love to read more about Leah, Fel, Naia, River and Azir.
Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic is the second and final part in the Of Fire & Fae duology by Day Leitao. The first part was a story full of fantasy, magic, family drama, secrets and forbidden love, which I really enjoyed. Will I love this part just as much?
After waiting for a long time I finally got a chance to read this!
I was already in love with the characters so to get to see them grow even more was epic. That’s it! That’s the word for this book! Epic characters! Epic world building! Epic plot! Epic story! The relationship between River and Naia is pure fire! (Just like her). The political vibe that the story takes is just what the story needed. The growth that Leah and Fel have is amazing. The evolution of each of the characters and their relationships is on point. I loved to get deeper into their world. The exploration of the magic system. The dept of the dragon and fae society. And that mixed with an emotional roller coaster it’s just … wow. I honestly got to say that any fan of: Strong female characters Great magic systems Fae makeovers Slow burn Hunted heroes
Should grab a copy right now! Honest … this was an epic journey! And I enjoyed every page!

IRON HEARTS AND DRAGON MAGIC by Day Leitao is the second book in the Of Fire and Fae duology. This book picks up right where the first let off, with uncertainty surrounding relationships, magic, and the fate of Aluria.
The main characters of book two are the same as in book one. In this, Naia struggles to come to terms with River’s actions in the first book, while Fel struggles to come to terms with a new land and strange magic. Leah is also struggling with her magic, as well as figuring out how to help her kingdom. All the while, Ironhold and a mysterious evil force keep getting stronger in the background.
This book was such a great sequel! The character development was top tier. Leitao’s writing really made me root for these characters. Certain misunderstandings from the first book came to light in this one, and the payoff was great. I loved the expanded world building in this book as well. I really want to learn more about this world. I hope there is some future series written so we can see more of Aluria and Fernick! There seems to be so much we still don’t know about their history and culture.
The ending of the series was well done also. While this second installment definitely had more ground to cover than the first book did, I think the plot moved at a great pace and never felt rushed. I definitely recommend this YA fantasy duology!
This is a wonderful Ya can actually say nothing wrong about this writer. (that's why I can't part with her books yet) this is an indie author. but really not comparable to, for example, a sarah je maas or a pc cabinet! and Kristin cast. And my personal interpretation of her books are also not books that I think I've read before. This book is definitely recommended!
I can't believe such a smart Naia fell again and again for river's ploys. I loved the descriptions of ancient city and aluria. Still, the dragon land was simply magestic.
Author has done a great job taking us to this world. With the twins dragon abilities as well as iron abilities is mesmerizing.
Leah and azir , being the deathbringers just traverse through the realms and helping fel is awesome.
It's so sad we get only two books in this series. Sincerely i hope that author will give more stories in this world.
I really enjoyed the first book, which already had drama, secrets, betrayal, and beautiful romances 🥰 and the second book just added to the drama and secrets that we finally learn and the romances I’m rooting for! I just adored Fel and Leah and they’re all I really cared about 😅😭
These books really pulled and yanked my heartstrings all over, but it was worth it 🙌🏻 4/5 ⭐️ I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Final chapter in the story of Naia, Fel, Leah, River and Azir.
In this second book of the duology, their story comes to an end. But don't worry, a lot of new and exciting things are being introduced in this story as well. It reads fluently, although including all POV's in each chapter was a downside of the story for me because at certain moments it slowed everything down. In some settings this works, but here it felt more like it was obligatory to include them all each time. Nevertheless the main characters were very wonderful, there was nobody I liked less than the others, they all have their unique personalities. Except for some inconsistencies and illogical things, I did find this an enjoyable book to read. So I'd definitely suggest everybody who has read the first book and enjoyed it to continue with reading this one as well.
3,5/5 ⭐
I received an advanced copy of this book for review.
A satisfying conclusion to the varied story lines launched in the first book of the series (Frozen Hearts and Death Magic). It doesn't struggle or rush to tie every little detail up with a bow by the end, which I appreciate. Real life doesn't work that way, and I find it refreshing when the "after the major climax summary" doesn't try to say that the entire world is now perfect because of the main character's struggles.
Each character arc was engaging, relatable, and brought growth that leaves the reader with a simmering warmth in the chest. Well done!
Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic jumps straight into the story following the events of the first book. There was a little plot refresher at the beginning of the book, which was very useful for me! I loved returning to these characters and getting to see them grow and develop more as they came into contact with larger issues than before.
Fel has turned into a dragon and struggles with the idea that he may not be able to change back into his human form, as at the front of his mind, he is thinking about being with Leah. He journeys to find other dragons who could help him learnt to use and control his dragon magic to help his kingdom. Except the dragons don’t want him to leave as they think he holds the key to saving them. Leah has recently discovered she is a deathbringer and not a necromancer, and doesn’t know how to correctly use her powers. At times she hears a voice that is seemingly trying to corrupt her. She spends the majority of this novel discovering who she is and how to control her powers before anything goes wrong.
‘You were afraid you’d lose them. But isn’t it a greater loss to never love?’
Naia is left alone in the fort and deals with a lot during this book! To begin with she has to step into her father’s shoes as he has disappeared and tries to subtly warn other countries about the attack from Ironhold. A war is looming and she is determined to not go quietly. She has to learn whether she can trust River as once they are reunited, he begins to act strangely and out of character for the fae she thought she knew. River wants to take down Ironhold Castle from within and constantly puts himself in harms way, which of course worries Naia. A lot happens to him in this book and I was hooked to the pages to see how it would end trying to figure out what was going on!
‘We need to kiss, Naia. Kiss and forget everything. It’s a matter of strategy.’
I loved the romance in this book as these two relationships kept me reading. This is told from multiple perspectives so it was a little frustrating at times when they would switch just as the drama was amping up! Overall, I really enjoyed this one and felt like it concluded these character’s stories well! The story really picked up in the second half and I loved seeing the drama unfold.
*Thank you to TBR and Beyond Tours and Sparkly Wave for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
I really enjoyed the first 75% of this book. The world building continued to be enjoyable and I enjoyed the developing characters and their relationships. Unfortunately, the ending felt very rushed to me.
I received Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic (Of Fire & Fae #2) by Day Leitao through BookFunnel. I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend this, along with book one of the series. I believe anyone 16+ that enjoys fantasy with a bit of romance mixed in will enjoy this series. In this book Naia is still grappling with shocking revelations and has to figure out if she can trust River, there is more than her heart at stake. Unless she holds herself together they won't stand a chance against the Iron Kingdom... River wants to make things right with Naia but also wants to unveil Ironhold's secrets. Diving deep down into the Iron Citadel he finds more evil more dreadful and dangerous than he ever imagined. Meanwhile Fel is in a strange land and has to distinguish between foes and allies while struggling with newfound magic and coming across more shocking discoveries. The price of his failure would be death... Leah also has to find a way to control her power or it will consume her and everything she loves... Do they manage to win and if so how? The expected release date for this book is November 30th on Amazon
I did not want to say goodbye to these characters! I am always a little scared to read the conclusion of a story because you just have so many expectations for it and sometime the book does not meet those and that just destroys the story. The author does not disappoint! I loved this book as much as I loved the first one! Trust me, for those who have read FHADM, you won't be disappointed and for those who haven't read FHADM... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??
What a great sequel! I loved the multiple POVs, especially Naia’s and River’s story. There was so much going on, so much action- I really couldn’t put the book down!
I loved this book so much. If you're looking for an unique fantasy book with Fae, magic, humans with magic, dragons, romance and something evil the characters have to fight, you should definitely read this duology!
One of the authors following the new and GLORIOUS trend of including a recap of the previous book(s) so it's all fresh instead of coming back as you read. Or having to reread when there's so much new material out there. Unexpectedly steamy since I didn't have her in that category in my brain but that could easily just be my crappy memory. Only complaint is that it could use a solid round of checking for typos, but that's way better than needing editing cause the plot is unclear.
Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic is the second part in the Of Fire and Fae duology and it picks up right where the first book ended. This second book is slower paced than the first and it takes a while to really get going but it is a fantastic end to the series. Our favourite characters - Naia, Fel, Leah and River are as strong willed and powerful as they were in the first book.
Day Leitao is so good at world building and Ironhold feels like such an oppressive threat during both these novels. Any unanswered questions from Book One are certainly answered here and the ending of this series was really well written. Iron Hearts is more of a slow burn then the first book but it’s really worth it and I am going to miss these characters.
I received a free ebook of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and is written voluntarily.
A fun sequel that builds upon the first book. The summary at the start of the book allows you to jump right back in. It was great seeing the characters deal with new problems and face their troubles past. The new elements of magic make the world even more intriguing.
After reading the first book I was hooked on this fantastic universe and I was curious on how everything will solve my favorite characters.
After reading the second book I can say I am satisfied. Each character developed so beautifully, had their part of action and the opportunity to show off their skills.
The storyline is well put together and easy to follow even if there are a lot of events on different places. I love how the names, the magic, and realms were named ... because they didn't give me a headache trying to read them😅.
I recommend this book to anyone who is passionate about fantasy and magic.
I receivef this ebook in exchange of my honest review.
“Sometimes, instead of warning to stay away, fear can show you the path you need to take.”
I was so excited to read the conclusion to this duology – given how the first book ended with a cliff-hanger. Unfortunately, this one didn’t live up to my expectation.
Let’s talk about the good things first. The world building is beautiful and fascinating, it introduces us to another land filled with dragons. It introduces a new element which comes with a new threat into the story.
I like the multiple POVs which makes the readers experience what these characters are dealing with in different places before coming back together. Out of all the POVs, Fel’s POV is the most interesting one. Because we got to see how he discover his real family and other power he didn’t know he had in the first place.
However, the pacing is just too slow, the long chapters makes the book felt longer than it should be. The first half part of the story is slightly dragging and confusing, by the time the puzzle pieces come together I felt like I already lost interest. There’s a lot of things going on in this book which comes with detail explanations that makes me eventually skim a few parts.
The final battle felt too rushed and the villain was defeated slightly too easy at the end. Although, the ending was wrapped up pretty nicely – like how the people will try to mend the broken relationships and being anew.
It saddens me to give this rating since I really like the first book. Even though I got to explore new things from the world building, the rest didn’t make me fully enjoy this book.
If you like fantasy, magic, dragons, romance and secrets you can give this duology a try, but I highly suggest you to read the first book or re-read it before reading this one.
Actual Rating: 2.5⭐
Thank you to TBR and Beyond Tour and the author for giving me this review copy and having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
I was so excited I got on this particular tour as I had previously been on the Frozen Hearts and Death Magic tour and really wanted to see what happened.
Unfortunately even though I was grateful for the summary of the previous book I found it lengthy and went into too much detail and I kept slumping and not wanting to pick it up. Same goes for the chapters some of them were so long.
It's saving grace was Fel's story arc now that was interesting and would of like to have stayed longer on that topic while River's Arc was slightly OTT and no real explanations.
I would of like to give it more than 3 stars but I can't and this is such a shame as the series had so much potential. Thank to TBR Tours & Beyond for allowing me a place and to the publishers for sending me an E-Arc.
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
⮞ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 ⮜ Leah, I felt she has grown so much from the first book. She got more in tune with her powers and I loved the way her character developed itself. Fel on the other hand I felt this time lacked compared to the first book. I felt he should've been stronger, more powerful, and gotten in better control with his dragon powers. Naia this time has also had an improvement, I loved the way she took control of their castle and did what she thought its best. And definitely loved the fact she took control of her needs and what she wanted, not what others wanted for her. River was very confusing this time from the very beginning and even tho eventually you get to know what ailed him, I felt this time his character wasn't where it should've been.
⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜ This time you get to know even more about their world which is pretty complex, and beautiful but also dangerous. I enjoyed the new change in scenery and the new adventure the new world brought.
⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜ I am going to start with the things I've actually enjoyed. I've enjoyed some of the controversial subjects in the book, more exactly about marriage and how the female characters in the book were taught this from such a young age, on how to act, how to be to gain a husband and also their practices which were pretty questionable. I enjoyed that so many female characters were against it and tried to change it. I enjoyed the new plot of twists and the new adventure the story brought us, the character growth was palpable on some characters and such a nice touch. The plot twist with River was actually really made, it made me angry for half the book until you actually learn why he is so strange, one day hot one day cold. The world-building was also very beautiful and made you get lost in all the details. The details provided regarding some stuff were at the perfect time and the perfect amount - most of the time.
However, as much as I've enjoyed some things, there are some things that actually I didn't enjoy and made me give the book a 3-star rating. I didn't feel this is the same quality Day used to write (I've read a full series from her and loved it and also the 1st book on this series which was again a great read). This book I felt it missed some things to be a great book. Some information provided I felt it wasn't necessary and they only made the book to be too long when it shouldn't. Some stuff wasn't explained and left me confused, such as how did River see Naia as a white dragon more exactly? The endless repetition of the same word such as fell, fell, fell - I am not sure if they were used as a way of being a shocking moment but I felt frustrated after a few phrases in which things were repeated three times. It didn't add to the shock sadly, it just made me get out of the reading frenzy and try to understand the reason behind it. Some events should've been stronger on the emotional impact but sadly I felt them flat and couldn't feel anything, the events just moved on too quickly leaving you dry.
Overall I do not think the book is a bad book, it was enjoyable and I loved the way it ended, I just feel it was sort of rushed considering how big the book is. It might not have been a 5-star for me but someone else might love it dearly so don't hold back on reading it!
⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜ There is no smut in the book. There are some sexy scenes but not overly detailed and the TW is related to battle scenes.
Synopsis:Could love undo the mess under which she was buried? Or was it the excuse she’d give to forfeit her duty?
Still grappling with shocking revelations, Naia has to figure out if she can trust River, and this time, there’s a lot more than just her heart at stake. Unless she holds herself together, they won't stand a chance against the powerful Ironhold Kingdom. Actually, they might not stand a chance regardless.
River wants to make things right with Naia, but he also wants to unveil Ironhold’s secrets. Diving deep down into the entrails of the dreadful Iron Citadel, he finds evil more dreadful and dangerous than he ever imagined. This time, there might be no escape for him.
On a strange land, Fel has to distinguish between foes and allies, while struggling with newfound magic, and coming across even more shocking discoveries. The price of his failure is nothing less than death.
Leah has to find a way to control her power, or else it will consume her—and destroy everything she loves.
With gripping action, nonstop danger, heartfelt moments, and heart-pounding romance, Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic is the epic finale of the duology Of Fire and Fae, an upper-YA romantic fantasy series for lovers of forbidden romance, enemies-to-lovers, and family drama.
Content warning: This book has some fantasy violence and non-graphic intimacy between couples.
Review: This was such a great sequel and it had the perfect ending! Chef’s kiss! I had a lot of reading reading more about this world that Day Leitao has created! Then to see more of these characters and their struggles was entertaining! I was sad to say goodbye to them! There was so much more exploration on everything the world, characters, the dragon society! I couldn’t ask for anything better! If you love a good slow burn, strong characters, and a fun fantastical world this is your book to pick up next!
Dragons. Who would have thought the legend was true? That they actually exist? But Leah has no choice but to believe it, because she witnessed Fel turn into one. While Leah is still struggling with her deathbringer magic, she realises that Fel will be safer if she isn't with him. Atleast until she can block out the voice in her head.
Fel, on the other hand, travels all the way to Fernick to find a Dragon Lord who can help him. Instead, he finds an entire hidden population of dragons just like him. But just like in Aluria, there is unrest in the land of the Dragons. And it all seems to stem from a powerful being whose consciousness has been trapped in the hollow and is trying to make it's way back to its home realm.
Naia and River have so much to deal with. Between trying to save the Ancient village, looking after her kingdom while her father and brother are away and dealing with the threat of ironhold all at once, they still need to navigate their new relationship. But River seems less like himself lately and Naia has to figure out why before it's too late.
My thoughts: I loved, loved, loved this book! Where the first book was more world building and fimilarizing, this book was all mystery and action! I loved the plots, the twists, just the story as a whole. All the characters are so interesting and they each had there own unique journeys! There is so much mystery and so many shocks to the system! I loved the dragons, the magic and finally having all those little ends tied up. What a brilliant way to wrap up these two books 😍
Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic is the sweet conclusion to the wonderful Of Fire & Fae duology by Day Leitao.
Continuing the emotional and turbulent journey of our favorite Naia,River,Fel and Leah in their search for answers and saving their kingdoms in the meantime.
The story continues right where we left our character at the end of book 1 (Frozen Hearts and Death Magic).
The tricky thing is that the stakes are getting higher and more dangerous for them and finding the answers to what is going on, honing on their powers can't wait and time is of the essence.
It's no secret that, since book one, Fel has been my favorite, but Iron Hearts and Dragon Magic showed me a new side of her – resilient, cunning and fit to be a good leader.
Furthermore, it showed us more open, caring and vulnerable River that transcended his relationship with Naia on another level that was wonderful to witness.
As a cherry on the top, we have intriguing POV and backstory of King Azir and Ursiana ,giving us some answers and giving the characters incredible depth and insight why they are what they are today.
Sad to say goodbye to this world but enjoyed every bit of this story.
Oof, ok so this one suffered from the same problem as book 1 except it's like twice as long. I really think this book might have benefited from being 2 books since it was so much longer than book 1. I very nearly DNFed but I really liked how book 1 ended and I really like the world building and River and so I pushed through and pretty much exactly after the halfway point it got so much better. It just felt like there were too many POVs in this book and I get why. There's a lot going on but I found I didn't care about some of them. And Fel really felt like he regressed as a character? There was a naivety to the writing, just like in book 1, especially his character. And I really didn't care about his story in the other country with the dragons. It was important sure, but I couldn't bring myself to care. But, I'm glad I pushed through. River's story frustrated me in the beginning but once the thing is revealed it was like OH THAT'S WHY and everything made sense. He's still my favorite character and Naia. I love them both. I actually really liked her storyline. She really shined bright in this book. I loved watching her grow and become a leader. I also loved the two of them together. I love their banter
YA audiences who love epic fantasy like Game of Thrones and Holly Black books will like this.
Strongly suggest you read book #1 first as book #2 jumps into the story without further ado.
Multiple plotlines; dragons, royalty & fae; kingdoms under attack; army of the undead; intrigues & bacstabbing; slow-burn enemies to lovers (I hope). I can totally picture this made into a movie - when the text is distilled down to action & dialogue and spectacular settings. Reminded me a little of Holly Black’s Cruel Prince (but not everything being about the fae) and set entirely in a made-up fantasy world. I’m not a fan of war&peace sized epics, don’t kill me, but this book had believable characters; understandable relationship lines; the self-talk of the characters was helpful as well. An enjoyable read if you like epic fantasy with intrigue, twists & turns, dragons and fae.
Recommended for fans of Holly Black and lovers of Game of Thrones (but for YA audience).
