Seasons of Love #2

Shall We Dance?

Rate this book
A former child actress and a grump partner up and fake-date in this hilarious enemies-to-lovers romance. I’ve hit rock-bottom, and it is not fun. My financial planner disappeared with all my money, forcing me to take the first job that’s offered to a spot in the popular reality show Celebrity Dance Battle for the chance to win a massive cash prize. I pretty much have all my eggs in this one basket, and when I’m partnered up with the world’s biggest jerk, I know I’m in big trouble. When I find out he needs this win just as much as I do, I suggest we convince the audience that we’re in love to increase our chances of winning. We desperately need fan votes and the show is basically just a popularity contest, right? What could go wrong? If you’re a fan of Tessa Bailey’s Tools of Engagement or Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Bastard , you’ll love this book! Shall We Dance? Is a steamy, laugh-out-loud, enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy with an epic dance competition and mystery, where a grump and an optimist find each other when they need it the most. HEA guaranteed!

Thank you so much @carolinefrankwrites for letting me be on your eARC team! It’s such a privilege and pleasure to read your books.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (0-5 scale)

Steam: 🔥🔥🔥☄️ (0-5 scale) maybe 🔥🔥🔥🔥

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 Dual POV—my fave!! 👩‍❤️‍👨
🤩 Reality TV: Celebrity Dance Battle! So fun, so gorgeous, and so much added sexual tension. 🔥 💃 🕺
🤩 Meet cute, grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers=all the beautiful banter you are looking for!
🤩 Fake dating plus close proximity in multiple ways! 🌶
🤩 Sweet and spicy romcom of the springtime kissing (and more) under the cherry blossoms variety.😘 🥵 🌸 Theodore Wallace is my dream guy. 😍
🤩 Barbara was my favorite pretend name during my “play house” days. This book makes me think I picked the best fake name ever—just call me Babsy! Barbara Holt is an amazing human—fun, feisty, and fabulous. I adore her!
🤩 All the feels: love, longing, lust, and laughs PLUS some serious hate.
🤩 Epilepsy representation is so important, unique, and amazing. Alzheimer representation is smaller but pretty great too.
🤩 Found family got all the tears from me with this one. 😭 Be aware of abandonment and orphaned triggers.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 I don’t hate easily. But I pretty much hate Cora (one of the dance judges) & how Rob (director) reacts to the whole situation with Cora. I guess this is actually a 🤩 because it’s such good writing. It still makes me dizzy. 😉
💫 I had to take a pause after chapter 37—I did not know if I had it in me to forgive Theo. Again, it’s a 🤩 for amazing writing, getting me to feel all the feels but so frustrating. 😠🙄

Swoony sigh! Each time Caroline Frank writes a book, I think that her next one won’t be able to top it, and every time I am totally wrong.

Barbara, a former child actor, takes a job on a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ type of reality show when her financial manager makes off with everything she’s earned throughout her career. Theodore, the dancer she is paired with, immediately assumes she is a spoiled brat who won’t work as hard as he needs her to. Both have a rocky start with the other, but need to put their differences aside when it becomes quickly apparent that they aren’t wowing the judge or the audience with just their dancing skills.

I finished this book in one sitting, because I absolutely loved both characters, and the intense chemistry they have from the moment they are paired together. One of my favorite things about Caroline’s books are that she writes about people with real issues. Barbara has epilepsy, and the difficulties and the allowances she needs to make in her life to better her health are written about realistically (kudos to this author for writing so candidly about a health concern that affects her own life). Theodore is taking care of his aging grandmother, and struggles with her health concerns stemming from Alzheimer’s as well.

I didn’t want this book to end, and I genuinely lost track of time watching Barbara and Theo try to fool the world with their fake dating while trying to win ‘Celebrity Dance Battle’. When our grumpy hero and our sunshine heroine start to fall for each other, it is *chef’s kiss* perfection. Now I get to say (once again) that this latest from Caroline Frank is definitely my favorite of hers so far. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store!

Thanks so much to Caroline for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Ok hear me out: Celebrity dance competition show, enemies to lovers, only one bed, and epilepsy rep.

This book easily moved to my favorite rom com spot. Barbara and Theo are such a fun couple. I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and Caroline Frank did a wonderful job nailing this with the perfect amount of banter, spice, and tension. I found myself thinking about this story constantly, and couldn’t wait to finish it, but also wanted to savor every word.

The part that really spoke to me was Barbara’s epilepsy. If you know me, you know that I also struggle with seizures, so it was heart warming to feel seen in this story. The author herself also has epilepsy so the description of what it’s like to have this medical condition was perfectly executed. I can’t thank her enough for spreading knowledge of what it’s like for people like us. 💙

Read this book if you enjoyed:
One to Watch
The Charm Offense
The Match

Or love dancing, Dancing with the Stars, reality tv, and grumpy sunshine trope.

I really enjoyed this book. It features two dancers: Barbara and Theo. Together, they are sizzling and great. What I loved about this book was how dancing is featured. Many times it is mentioned that the character is a dancer, but we never see them. Here, dance is literally the love story. I enjoyed the love/hate relationship between the two. Barbara and Theo are super hot. I also enjoyed how Barbara is disabled and its portrayed very realistically. Chronic illness is hard. Barbara isn't magically healed, but does have a great character arc. Theo is the ultimate teddy bear. I enjoyed his growth. I highly recommend you check out this book by this author.

"You bring much-needed balance into my life and challenge me in the best possible ways every day."

Barbara was introduced in the first book, Fall Into You, from the Seasons of Love series by Caroline Frank. She is Liza’s, the heroine in Fall Into You, best friend. Unfortunately, due to my poor memory, I forgot this fact. But after a bit, it clicked for me. What I did remember of Barbara was they didn’t seem the same for some reason. But maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I read it.

Chosen families are special. Since you can’t choose your biological family, you can select your chosen one. Barbara and Liza’s friendship is one that I want. Strong female friendships are important, especially good ones because they should be quality over quantity. In my opinion, all the friendships in Shall We Dance? were written well. They supported one another and would do anything for each other.

Barbara is a washed-up former child star that lost everything. Down on her luck, she booked a celebrity dance show. Her dance partner is known as the grumpy dancer (grumpyxsunshine). Barbara and Theodore have their reasons for wanting to win the competition. Because it is high stakes for both of them, they decide to fake date.

Barbara compares Theo to “a grumpy, angry Prince Eric, but sexier and slightly more built.” She used to be obsessed with The Little Mermaid. Although she claims she “wasn’t obsessed but simply admired and craved Ariel’s independence.”

Shall We Dance? is advertised as a enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy. I’m not sure if it’s exactly enemies-to-lovers, but there was an element of hate-to-love. When they first met, it was a bad impression. They got off on the wrong foot. But at the same time, there was unlining chemistry.

Barbara doesn’t just follow my lead—it’s like she already knows where I’m going and what we’re doing before my body even tells her to. We’re so connected to each other it’s like she’s reading my mind. I’ve never had this, never felt it, with anyone other than her.

Barbara and Theodore’s relationship was not perfect. Theo was an ass, but he can be sweet once you get to know him. Some moments I couldn’t help but go ughhh! It seemed that Theo jumped to conclusions too quickly. But they were able to work everything out together. They learned from their mistakes and grew from the experience.

The thoughts and dialogue were entertaining. I smiled/laughed a lot while reading. In typically rom-com fashion, there were also sad moments. It was a good balance of an emotional ride.

Shall We Dance? takes place in present day. In a post-Covid world. It mentions masks and everything, and I wonder if, at some point, it will seem dated?

Caroline Frank gives awareness to epilepsy. There are not a lot of books that include characters that have a disability. She shows that even when you have a disability, it is not the end of the world. You are able to live a normal life. Or as normal as you are willing to make it.

4.5⭐️ Thank you Caroline Frank and Romance me with Books for an ARC.

*SPOILERS*
The chemistry is palpable between Celebrity Dance Battle dancer Theodore and his celebrity (former child actress) partner, Barbara. They get off on the wrong foot but share motivation to make it to competition finals in order to get the payout that comes with it. They each have their obstacles and are opposites in many ways but quickly are humanized to each other and that's what helps the story break into charming territory. I mean, Theo and his Bubbe? YES.

This book jumps quickly into enemies to lovers and fake dating and has some very cute and sweet moments. While this is an open door romance, it doesn't feel gratuitous or forced. The heat builds up really well and, wow, the scene in Central Park! One of the hottest I've read.

I have to admit the name Barbara didn't feel age-appropriate. It makes me think of someone older and would occasionally make me take pause (while I don't usually give a second thought to names once I've learned the characters).

There were some parts didn't fully add up and distracted me:

- There is no way Barbara should be able to join a rigorous dance show without disclosing her epilepsy, a medical condition that could be a liability for the show. It's also unfair that she would keep this from her partner when it's quite possible she'd have an episode and he wouldn't have the proper medical background to give medics if needed. (This wouldn't need to be made public but key players like showrunner, partner, set medic or similar should all have this information.) That being said, I really liked that this featured representation of epilepsy and shared the challenges of the condition but showed how Barbara functioned with it and knew her body.

- Barbara calls the Broadway project she books a “play” but they’ve talked about the songs she’s rehearsed for it, which means it's a musical (or "show").

- It's phrased at one point like Barbra Streisand is going into the Broadway run in summer - as if the musical is up and running and she'll come to take over a role. I can't imagine a world where Barbra Streisand would come in as a replacement with someone else originating the role before her in that run.

- When Barbara texts her agent after finally rousing from seizure in the bathroom, her agent, Sabrina (who muscled in earlier in the CDB season for her client) lets Barbara move out of the hotel with not so much as a “hold tight, let me explain to the network and see if they will bring you back, considering the circumstances.” It felt inconsistent from a character standpoint.

Overall a really fun and quick read! And now I need to get some peanut M&Ms.

Thank you to the author for my ARC copy!

Barbara is a bit eccentric and Theo is very rigidly straight-laced. These two meet on a sidewalk in the rain only to discover a few minutes later that they are paired together on a dance reality TV show (think Dancing with the Stars). From the minute they meet and start bickering you can feel the sizzling connection between them coming through the pages. They agree to a fake-dating scheme to up ratings and votes for themselves in the competition but that quickly leads to a real relationship. They both want to win the competition for different reasons but will they get what they want in the end? You'll have to read to find out.

I will say that I did have a few chapters where I felt sick to my stomach that they weren't going to get a HEA after all, or that something really terrible was going to happen to Barbara due to her epilepsy. But as is true in all romance it works out in the end. It was also refreshing to have a heroine in the story have a medical condition and to see how it can effect every day life and how you have to learn to balance your day around it but not have it control you. I think it was beautifully written into the story. After reading the acknowledgements at the end I'm thankful that her husband encouraged her to keep it in the story.

The author does a phenomenal job of making the characters real and their personalities spill out of the book. I feel like I could be friends with both Barbara and Theo and that I would know them well at this point. I also liked seeing Liza from book 1 in the series again, albeit in a much smaller capacity. I also just adored Rosie and hope that she gets her own book one day.

A grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, enemies to lovers romance set against a celebrity dance competition, you say? Count me alllll the way in! 😍This book was just what I was needing to get me through the last week of school before Spring Break. 🌷☀️

Barbara and Theo were truly the most adorable characters, individually and especially as a couple. I immediately fell in love with Barbara’s quirkiness and really related to Theo’s perfectionist tendencies. I could totally see the making of an adorable couple, and loved the journey these two went on trying to win the Celebrity Dance Battle competition to better their lives, while trying not to pull their hair out because of each other. 😂
The ups and downs they went through made the ending incredibly satisfying. I was laughing, swooning, gasping, and melting throughout the book.💗

I truly love the characters and world Caroline Frank has built with her Seasons of Love series. If you enjoyed Liza and Matt’s story from Fall Into You, I guarantee you will love Barbara and Theo even more! Plus you get a bit of an update on where Liza and Matt are now sprinkled throughout. 🥰
I also really enjoyed the representation of epilepsy Barbara’s character faces, as that is a journey the author has personally experienced. Her perspective of the ups and downs of living with epileptic seizures was incredibly eye-opening and I applaud her for spreading awareness through this story.

Make sure to pre-order this one through @carolinefrankwrites link in her Instagram bio! Shall We Dance? releases on April 6, 2022. Thank you so much to the author for letting me preview this one before release day; I can’t wait to read literally anything else you come out with! 🤩

I am so excited to have been a part of this book tour for Shall We Dance!

I must say, I love reading a book that comes with a dual point of view! I love being able to see things from both sides - it definitely adds a lot more depth to the characters!

What I'm loving is the reality TV premise for "Celebrity Dance Battle"! Being a reality TV junkie, this was right up my alley!

Barbara is a former child actor, who finds herself in a terrible financial situation. Super relatable because how many child actors have we heard of lately that have fallen on hard times?
She signs up to be a celebrity contestant on a dance show and is paired up with one of the grumpiest people she has ever met - Theo Wallace!

Imagine dancing with someone for hours on end in super close proximity? of course there's bound to be some sexual tension...and boy, when that tension breaks and they finally give in to what they both want....oh geez! it's combustible!

While some of this was predictable, I did truly enjoy it. It was a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Caroline Frank keeps getting better and better. In her latest installment, Barbara, a child actor, broke and left with hefty medical bills, signs on to Celebrity Dance Battle. There, she meets the misunderstood Theo, who wants to gain a judge position on the show to pay for his Bubbe's care while she battles Alzheimer's. Frank's heartfelt and swoon-worthy enemies to lovers book is thoughtful yet humorous. Barbara and Theo both evolve into self-actualized people who embrace their insecurities. And as they grow closer, their insecurities make their union ever the more earnest. It's through those insecurities that they each forge the life they deserve. Shall We Dance? serves as a reminder that it is never too late to pursue one's dreams.

I'm soooo glad Indie romance author Caroline Frank's early books are finally coming out on audio! This second book in the Seasons for love series is perfect for fans of Dancing with the stars!!! I loved the grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, fake dating setup that has a child actress with epilepsy trying to make a comeback and dig her way out of debt and a pro dancer needing to win to help pay for the care of his grandmother who has progressive Alzheimer's. Full of humor and heart, this was a lot of fun to read with cameos from other characters in the series and a couple spicy open door scenes. Highly recommended especially for anyone who enjoyed Priscilla Oliveras' Matched to perfection series.

Shall we dance by Caroline Frank is the second book in Seasons of Love series. It is the first book that I have read of this author and It was a hilariously steamy enemies to lovers romantic story.
We follow Barbara and Theo as they navigate through celebrity dance competition to get their HEA.
They don't start off on the greatest of terms, there are misconceptions, Theo comes off as slightly jaded and insecure. Barbara has been burned before by her financial partner so she is wary of people. However they agree and come together to participate in the celebrity dance competition, they devise a plan to gain votes and to win the competition. Theo and Barbara are truly adorable couple with so much of chemistry. Ms.Caroline Frank has excelled in character development.
If you're looking for a laugh out loud grumpy/ sunshine, fake dating, enemies to lovers book, look no further that this amazing read which has given me all good vibes.

Shall We Dance was such a fun book that you won't want it to end. This grumpy/sunshine duo who are paired together in a celebrity dance competition will have you laughing and cheering them on, all while falling in love with their characters. When Theodore and Barbara are paired together in this dance competition, both need to win, both for different reasons. Even though they are complete opposites, they both agree they will do whatever it takes to win, even if it means faking a relationship. But will these enemies remain just that, or could they both end up falling for one another? I highly recommend this book. It's such a fun, light read, and will have you smiling and cheering for Theo and Barbara.

Thank you so much to @rmwbooks and @carolinefrankwrites for a copy of the book to review!

This book was so cute! If you are like me and a fan of Dancing With The Stars then you will probably love this book!

We follow Barbara, a former child actress, who signs up for the show Celebrity Dance Battle for a chance to win the grand prize and pay off the debts she was left with after her former financial planner took off with all of her money. She meets her partner Theodore , who is broody and grumpy and gorgeous 😍 The start a fake dating relationship and everything changes for them both!

I loved this! I loved how Barbara knew how to push Theo’s buttons and their back and forth. There was so much tension and build up in here, and that park scene 🥵 There was definitely some steamy scenes in this book! I also loved the Dance competition back drop! It was so fun!

Basically, if you love fake dating, and grumpy male characters, then you should definitely check this book out!

This is a second book from the series Seasons of Love, but you don’t have to read the first one to read this one. We do get to see how Liza and Matt are doing from the first book, which I always enjoy a good cameo. However, we’re not here for Liza and Matt, we’re here for Barbara and Theo.

Barbara is such an inspiring character. Although she’s dealt with a lot of stuff in the past and not to mention with what she has to go through with her disease, she still finds that will to get through anything. Not to mention, she has the greatest taste in candy, M&M peanuts.

Theo is such a family man, despite his childhood. His relationship with his bubbe is so adorable, he’s also very determined and competitive, it's hard to not fall head over heels for that man.

It was fun to read about Barbara and Theo because they didn’t get along in the beginning and had different views of each other, yet there was still that spark that was just waiting to ignite.

It was definitely a fun and entertaining read.

I received an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I throughly enjoyed this book! Barbara and Theo (excuse me, Theodore. If you know, you know) had such great chemistry. They didn’t start off on the greatest of terms and there were misconceptions on behalf of both of them. Theo is slightly jaded, and Barbara has been burned in a huge way. Each has their own insecurities and I really loved how Caroline addressed those. I loved Bubbe so much and wanted so much more of her. I was heartbroken when Barbara had her episode and Theo’s reaction when he found out. I was so stressed, and I just wanted to hug them both. Their HEA was adorable and I want more, more, more!

The story
Barbara was a child actress and gave up acting when she was diagnosed with epilepsy. When her financial manager makes off with her money and leaves her with mountains of debt and medical bills, she gets a part on a celebrity dance tv show. She is determined to win so that she can pay off her debt, but her grumpy partner, Theodore Wallace doesn’t seem to have much confidence in her.

My thoughts
I have read both of Caroline Frank’s previous books and it feels like they were both training grounds for this beautifully written gem. There is a lovely mix of love and happiness that is tempered with the reality of both Barbara’s life (her health and absent parents) and Theo’s life (the loss of his parents at an early age, his grandmother’s failing health). There are tropes galore in this cute story. I loved how capable and resourceful Barbara is, despite her situation she remains respectful to others and upbeat even when life brings hardship. A worthwhile read! ❤️

Barbara and Theo are absolutely adorable! Barbara was a child actor who is swindled by her financial planner. It leaves her a huge financial bind. I’m a bid to pay off some of her debt and maybe open some more acting doors for herself, she agrees to be a participant on Celebrity Dance Battle (think Dancing with the Stars type of show). Her dance partner, Theo is not a ray of sunshine. He has a lot on the line too. They concoct a crazy plan to gain votes and win the show, but life seems to have other plans for these two.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
4.5 stars - I really like Barbara. She’s quirky, down to earth and a true free spirit. Theo is her polar opposite - strict, regimented and laser focused on his goals. Letting go and going with the flow of things is not his strong suit. Theo was definitely not ready for the whirlwind that is Barbara. The two of them together is explosive - opposites attract and all.

Shall We Dance? is fresh and fun. If you want a quirky FMC with a grumpy lover - you must add Shall We Dance? to your TBR.

I received this book as an arc, my second one from Caroline Frank. This one was so darn cute. I loved everything about it. I would have finished it sooner if it wasn’t for wanting to finish it in the season it was written 😂. It was not overall about spring as the previous book was about fall and I loved that. The characters were great, playing off each other. I loved the Celebrity Dance Battle theme since one of my favorite shows is Dancing With the Stars. While it did feel a little rushed at the end it was still a good story overall. With that said, I do recommend this book and can’t wait to read Caroline Frank’s next one.

First off, thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this wonderful book! I enjoyed it so much! I don’t watch reality dance shows or any tv like that so I don’t know much about it. This book was SO fun and different reading about it!! Barbara was adorable! I thought of Hilary duff while reading this. Theo and his grumpy self ended up making me blush! These characters were so sweet together. The story line keeps you sucked in and their love story makes you not want the book to end. 🌹

Shall We Dance?
by Caroline Frank
4 stars
Baraba an ex childhood star finds herself in a financial situation so she takes a job as a dancer on a celebrity dance show. Soon she finds out she is partnered with the grumpiest person she has ever met. Theodore doesn't like to mess around and being partnered with Barbra he isn't happy one bit.
This story shows the past of each character. Theodore's passion for dancing and how much the show has meant to him. He finds Barbra to be just another spoiled childhood celebrity. As they learn to trust and get to know each other they find so much more.
It is a cute book just like the first book Seasons of Love 1 but I can't stand the constant lack of communication and just jumping to conclusions. I do get it nowadays more people don't know how to talk about everything but ugh. I love the story otherwise just couldn't do the lack of communication.

It's the spring and it's time for plants to find new life after the winter and for new beginnings for people who feel stuck. Barbara is a former child actress who recently got all her money stolen. Things are looking up as she got cast in a celebrity dancing reality show that pays pretty well if she can stay for several episodes. However, someone is rude to her on the way to her first rehearsal, and of course the grump turns out to be her teacher Theodore. He takes everything extremely seriously and considers Barbara weird and flaky. He doesn't think she has what it takes to succeed on the show but Barbara is determined to stick it out. They bicker a lot at first but when a judge seems to have it out for them they need to generate social media buzz in order to get the audience votes, and a staged romance seems like the perfect thing. There's a lot at stake for Theo too as his future in the show is in question and his grandmother needs his help to pay for a home nurse.

What I liked: The plot was well paced, the editing is flawless and the dialogue is entertaining. She had epilepsy which is a condition I have a personal interest in and you don't see in books very often but it was nicely described here. Both main characters are likeable and their opposite personalities complemented each other well. Although Theo's trust issues caused him to act like a jerk sometimes his groveling was really sweet and moving. The mysterious goings-on at the set of the dance show were rather obvious from the beginning and somebody probably ought to have figured it out earlier but I liked how it came together in the end.

What I didn't like: I will get back to you later if I think of anything.

Steam level: Public displays of, ahem.

In this second book of Caroline Frank's Seasons of Love series (I adored the first book, Fall Into You), we meet up with Barbara (Liza's best friend from book one) as she finds herself on a celebrity dance show. She needs money and she needs it fast, because this former child/teen actor has had a run of bad luck, with her financial manager having run off with all of her money, and the medical bills from her epilepsy skyrocketing. And her luck isn't changing all that much; she's been partnered on the show with the grumpiest of grumpy men, Theodore (DON'T call me Theo!).

This book has a little of everything - some grumpy meets sunshine, a little fake dating, a total cinnamon roll hero, and lots of drama and intrigue. Is someone sabotaging the show? Will Theo be able to give his Bubba the care she needs? Will Barbara get the role of her dreams? This book definitely kept me engaged the whole way through.

I did have a couple of minor issues, including one of my biggest pet peeves in romance novels - if the main characters were actually able to engage in a reasonable, normal amount of communication, most of The Big Conflict could have been avoided. But the last portion of the book had me tearing up, so I guess all is forgiven.

Definitely pick up this book if you are looking for well-developed characters, a first-hand look at living with epilepsy, springtime in New York, cherry blossoms, chosen family, and big bags of peanut M&Ms.
