He’s been around the block more than a few times. In fact, nothing surprises him…except her.
Former state trooper Clay Lexis has spent the last year working alongside the WEST Protection security team. When he’s offered a position heading the joint terrorism task force in his home state of Colorado, he’s ready for a new challenge. Then the sister of an old high school buddy careens into his life with a whole lot of sass—and a bomb in the trunk.
Lark Steele is a reporter. Or at least she will be once somebody gives her the big break she needs. Meanwhile, she supplements her income with a side hustle running errands for people. When she picks up a box and finds a bomb inside, she only knows one person to turn to—the much older friend of her big brother. Okay, maybe he’s not that much older, but she sure likes teasing him about their age gap…especially when they’re between the sheets. Besides, there’s a lot to be said for a man with experience.
With a bomb ticking away the minutes, Clay battles to keep Lark safe—but he didn’t expect this attraction to bring him to his knees. The heat between them is just about as dangerous as the trouble that keeps finding her around every corner. Maybe they’ve both found the hardest thing to fight for…is love.
I love Lark! She is super smart, very feisty, wonderfully quirky and everything about her simultaneously calls to Clay, and melts his brain. I really enjoyed seeing the usually cool, calm and unflappable Clay completely frazzled and bewildered by the way Lark constantly out manoeuvres him...but in the sweetest way possible! She is his match but also the biggest test to his patience ever! They verbally joust, they steam the windows with heated looks and out of control kisses and they have two very unique ways of investigating, which actually compliment each other, mesh beautifully and are exactly what Sentry needs. There are some big personalities on the Sentry team, which should lead to some exciting investigations! I really liked this WEST spinoff series and look forward to Quaides book next....he has lots of secrets hiding in the shadows. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Whiskey Ryders old girlfriend shows up in town. Codee is only staying long enough to solve the mystery of her sisters death. The current sheriff wants her to leave the case alone. She ask Whiskey to help her solve the mystery. He thinks they found her sisters body on the mountain.
Long Arm of the Cowboy is the first book in the new WEST Protection Sentry series and I’m here for it! This first installment has the romance taking center stage but is still packed with intrigue, danger and suspense.
Clay is a gruff giant who is honorable, loyal and really and able to lay his life down to protect others. When he’s offered the chance to lead a special task force to help week out the corruption in his small hometown, he readily agrees. What he didn’t know what that Sentry is currently a team of one, himself.
After diffusing one situation on his own, Clay is definitely not expecting another problem to land on his doorstep mere hours after wrapping up his last mission. But Lark lands on his doorstep, literally dropping a bomb in his driveway. A bomb that may or may not be connected to Clay’s last mission.
I love the brother’s friend trope and age gap romance so of course the blurb pulled me right in. And in typical Em Petrova fashion, the tropes didn’t quiet go as expected. This author always puts her own twists to her stories and gives us fleshed out characters that jump off the pages with their personalities, emotion bonds and spicy chemistry. There is some push from Clay about his instant attraction to Lark and also the age difference between them but he definitely had a valid reason and it’s not because he is afraid of what people will say or think about them together.
On the other hand, Lark lived day to day, in the moment. She jumped right into their mutual attraction and sets out to enjoy Clay while she can. She was definitely all sunshine and smiles until you threaten those she cares about. I loved that she was able to break down Clay’s wall without really even trying. She was just her adorable and sunny self and Clay found her irresistible! They really were very cute together and there is plenty of spice in this one!
The romance develops quickly while they try to find out who is behind the bomb, why they targeted Lark and also while Clay tries to recruit members into his new task force.
I’m already excited to find out more about Quaide and what or who has him brooding and on edge. Then there’s Jennings and Julius, brothers with definite potential 😊 As the first in a new series, I liked the intro to the main players and loved the MCs. The terrorist plot was not resolved, but was set up to continue in the next installment. Looking forward to reading more!

This is book one of the WEST Protection Sentry series and the main characters are former state trooper Clay Lexis, who has spent the past year working alongside the WEST Protection team and was then asked to set up Sentry, to target terrorists in Colorado, starting in East Canon, and wannabe reporter Lark Steele, who is currently making her money working as a delivery driver for an app called Quick Bunny. Clay thought this would be a new challenge, but so far he is working on his own and hasn’t got any backup. He has just spent days awake following a lead on a bomber through the dark web. Leading to him getting his guy, but now facing the down from all the stimulants he drank to keep awake! He is awoken long before he hoped to surface, by a very bubbly woman with a bomb in her trunk! It turns out Lark didn’t know who to call when she found a box she was supposed to deliver had a bomb in it and his was the only person she could think of. He was her older brother Andrew’s best friend and Lark was always brought along whenever Andrew, Clay and their friends met up, mainly because of their home situation. Lark was left alone after Andrew joined the military to keep out of trouble and she ended up in a group home after their mother overdosed!
Clay calls his FBI contact Quaide Livingston, who he went through bootcamp with, before they went separate ways after they left the military. A bomb squad is sent out to meet them at a remote location, but they are left hanging, and only find out later that the team were hijacked on the way to them! Lark refuses to leave him and the bomb, no matter what he tries to do to dissuade her. She makes him feel uncomfortable at times by referring to him as an old man or silver fox. He can feel the attraction to her, but he isn’t interested in any sort of relationship having had a bad experience in his past when he was cheated on, by someone he thought of as a brother. Lots of heat from both sides and banter going back and forth. Lark will do what Lark wants and while she may listen to Clay and what he says, she will often do exactly the opposite! She insists on taking part in the investigation at the end, when Clay wanted to go undercover, but she was far better suited to the role and Livingston agreed with her. That annoyed Clay no end, but there was little he could do. He doesn’t want her placed in danger, but he has no choice and will end up with his heart in his mouth before the end of the case happens. Romance between them is inevitable, especially with what she wears most days and the surprise discovery he makes when he figures out what she doesn’t! Lots of action in this storyline as terrorists are hunted down and bombs stopped, with a good mix of sass and romance along the way. Sentry is finally getting some additional personnel and I look forward to reading the next books in the series. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
The brand new series of West Protection Sentry headed by Clay Lexis based in his home state of Colorado. He was supposed to have a team to lead, but things started slow with only him as the whole team. Everything went sideways when a friend from high school kid sister, Lark Steele showed up on his doorstep telling him, she had a bomb in her car. She had picked up on her job with Quick Bunny where she picked items up at one location to deliver to another location. Sometimes she knows what she was delivering while others times it's a mystery. It was to be unknown this time, but she had difficulty lifting the box, and she looked for alternate way to load it. After, she discovered the bomb, she tried to think where she could turn for help remembering Lexis had just returned to town. He did not remember her at first little lone he was not happy that it had been announced to the the town that he was a cop. It took her a while to convince him that she really had a bomb in her car when he realized she was above board, and he tried to turn it over to the local sheriff. He got no where. He called his contact at the FBI where he got a location to take the bomb for deactivation. They arrived waiting two hours only to learn the team had been ambushed on the way. They were in serious trouble the bomb still had plenty of time on it, but it had a location beacon that they needed to destroy. They managed to dismantle the location beacon, and he called West Protection for the location of the nearest safe house. Once Lexis arrived at the safe house he called WEST for back up getting Julius and Jennings Abel to drive down taking the bomb and phone with them to take care of. Lexis needed to protect Lark, and she had made it clear that she was not leaving him as she had grown romantically attached to him, and she had became very vested in the case. He continued to investigate the case from a far moving to a new safe house making contact with his FBI boss, Quaide Livingston. He learned the guy he just arrested for attempting to make bombs managed to escape with help, and Lark pointed out his escapee and the guy she picked the bomb up from was the same person so the plot was thickening fast. Lexis was still only a team of one with a persistent girlfriend and a military buddy on the FBI as they ride to solve their first case being Sentry. When it was all over, they were soon a team of four being leader, Clay Lexis, members, Quaide Livingston, Julius, and Jennings Abel with intelligence analysts and official dispatch, Lark Steele. An edge of your chair thriller from beginning to the end. You do not want to miss this one.

Long Arm Of The Cowboy is the first book in WEST Protection Sentry series. This was a fabulous start to the author’s new series about a joint terrorism task force based in Colorado. It is an all-consuming, captivating combination of strong characters, romantic western thriller, support, loyalty, witty sassy banter, an age gap, insane chemistry, twisty plot and love that conquers all. A gripping, fast-paced page turner. Long Arm Of The Cowboy is engaging, charming, heartfelt, funny, and steamy. It has all from suspense, romance, to danger, steam, lighter moments and mystery.
Clay Lexis is a former state trooper who has spent the last year working alongside the WEST Protection security team. He is offered a position heading the joint terrorism task force in his home state of Colorado, ready for a new challenge and change. His experience is vast being a former Army, an ex-cop, as well as a former bodyguard. Lark is a reporter waiting on her big break. She just wants people to take her seriously and to give her an opportunity. She supplements her income with a side hustle running errands for people. When she discovers that her latest package included bomb, the only person she could think of helping her was her brother's best friend Clay. But neither expected to feel the pull and attraction. Both are flawed and complex characters. One of Clay's issues were his past and an age gap. It is why he put up the walls between them and tried to distance himself, but unsuccessfully. I loved their fun banter, incredible chemistry and beautiful connection as well as their build-up and relationship development. Over time, I loved that they learned how to trust each other, be open with each other - let their guards down and grow together and individually.
An absolutely amazing book with everything you could possibly want if you love mysteries, thrillers, character driven storyline, romance and danger.
“Long Arm of the Cowboy” is the first book in the ‘WEST Protection Sentry’ series by Em Petrova. This romantic suspense, age-gap story is yet another reminder of why I read everything this author writes.
Clay has a history of protecting people and upholding the law, first in the military, then as a state trooper, and more recently alongside the WEST Protection security team. But he’s restless. When he’s offered the opportunity to lead a joint terrorism task force in Colorado, his home state, Clay doesn’t hesitate. As he’s trying to figure out who to recruit for his new team, Lark shows up on his doorstep in need of help. She’s the younger sister of a high school friend Clay hasn’t seen in years. The attraction he feels towards her is almost as surreal as the fact that there’s a bomb in her car. She’s trying to make it as a journalist, but still can’t earn enough income that way. To make ends meet, Lark works as a driver for an app that matches people with others to do errands for them. As Clay and Lark try to figure out what’s going on and what to do about it all, they can’t ignore the scorching hot chemistry between them. Clay is convinced he’s too old for Lark but she’s equally convinced that he’s wrong. Meanwhile, since he’s still the only one on the new task force, Clay has to keep her safe, figure out who is behind the bomb and why, and try to protect his heart from getting involved. Smart and independent Lark is determined to participate in everything.
This book pulled me in right at the start and kept me turning pages until the very end. The main characters were interesting, and their respective emotional struggles were powerful. Although Clay and Lark generate a lot of heat together, the dialogue and banter between them is also entertaining. Plenty of intriguing secondary characters are involved in the story and are destined to reappear in the series. One particular dramatic scene toward the end of the book will live in my head for a long time! Overall, this is a terrific start to what is clearly going to be another excellent series from this author.
I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily sharing my thoughts and opinions.
I was so excited to see that author Em Petrova has a brand new series coming out! I'm a huge fan of her romantic suspense books. "Long Arm of the Cowboy" is Book 1 in the WEST Protection Sentry series. Clay Lexis is a former state trooper who had been working as a member of the WEST Protective Services. He was offered a position heading up the joint terrorism task force back in his hometown in Colorado. Currently his task force has exactly one team member- HIM! He's a little overwhelmed, not having any back up for his cases. Lark Steele is an aspiring journalist and the sister of an old high school buddy of Clay's. Until her dream job comes through, she has a side hustle running errands for people so that she can make ends meet. It's while commissioned to run an errand, that she finds herself delivering a box with a bomb inside. With nowhere else to turn, she looks up her brother's old friend Clay figuring that he would know what to do. At first Clay doesn't remember Lark. Once his memory is refreshed, he is amazed by how despite having continuously been knocked down by life , she has proven to be a resilient, positive, cheerful and hard working young woman. He's 40. She's 25. He has no right being intrigued by her, yet he is. Can he help her dispose of the bomb, protect her from terrorists, all while protecting his heart from falling in love? "Long Arm of the Cowboy" is an age gap, grumpy / sunshine, suspenseful romance that is honestly an ABSOLUTELY hilarious read! Lark is hilarious. She has one-liners for days and her internal musings are positively snicker worthy! The bantering between the two is worth the price of admission. I devoured this book and was truly sad when I came to the end and had no more pages to read. Once again, Em Petrova has reeled me in. I'm addicted to her books! Well done!
The only reason why I didn't give this wonderful, wonderful book 5 stars is because I wanted the climax to have a bit more impact, show more emotions, and cause more adrenaline to rush through my veins. The book did all of the above, of course, but it still needed just a dash more. It would have been more exciting if the antagonists had more of a scene, but this was great too.
What I loved most about this book were these (in no particular order): 1. the smut 2. grumpy/sunshine trope 3. brother's friend 4. cowboy 5. ex-cop, ex-Army, ex-bodyguard 6. the muscle definition on Lark's body 7. age gap romance 8. she's a cinnamon roll and he can kill you 9. the SMUT! 10. “Don’t look away from me. You’re going to know who is buried in you, Lark.” “Oh god! There are actually men who talk like you out there in the world. I thought they only existed in sex etiquette columns in magazines.” 11. 'Before she could say more, he stuck the corner of the condom in his teeth and held it there while those long, skilled fingers worked open his fly.' (OH MY GOD, this line was so hot I had to take a few moments to breathe, then tell every single reader friend I have about this brilliantly descriptive line). 12. 'With the fly still unzipped, he plucked a pair of brand-new socks from the drawer and carried them into the bathroom with him.' (I really hoped the author would write one of those extremely hot scenes where the man pulls up his zipper in front of the woman, but I was left a bit disappointed when this didn't happen. Also, did he stay unzipped the entire time after that??) 13. "Feed me those nipples, sexy.”
Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this book! Really grateful!
This is the 1st book in the new West Protection Sentry series featuring the steamy action-packed age-gap suspenseful romance between Clay and Lark. Clay and Lark have known each other since they were kids he was friends with her older brother and the last time they saw each other was before he joined the Army. Now years later he's been working with the West Protection Security Team then he's offered the chance to head a joint terrorism task force back in his home state of Colorado he's up for a fresh new challenge. Lark is a reporter or she will be as soon as she gets the chance she needs so in order to support herself until that break she runs errands for people. Her latest is the box she just picked up with a bomb in it she knows right away that she needs help and she knows exactly who to go to Clay her older brother's friend. Clay is surprised to see Lark on his doorstep right after he was undercover but then she tells him about the new package she picked up the bomb. After they have some issues with diffusing the bomb Clay learns that Lark is in real danger the bombers are after her. Clay will do anything to protect Lark even with the red HOT chemistry between them and their banter the fact that Lark gets under his skin. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this steamy action-packed age-gap suspenseful romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book and I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.

This is a wonderful sexy romance story with a side of suspense/action. Little Miss Sunshine Lark discovers a bomb and brings it to "old" and grumpy Clay, and together they help apprehend the terrorists at large, and lose their hearts to each other in the process.
I loved the way the author told the story - it was engaging and fun from the get go, and didn't feel like there was too much slow buildup/setup/backstory kind of thing. Lark is SUCH a funny and witty heroine and it's not hard to see why she would get under our hero's skin (the praying/counting! Lol) and why Clay would fall for her so hard and so quickly. They made for a very sweet and sexy couple. The teasing, the banter, the heartfelt moments, I loved all of it! I will remember this couple for a long time.
I thought it was a well thought out plot and I liked how everything came together in the end. It had just the right amount of drama for me - I don't really like my stories too heavy or too dramatic. All 3 side characters were funny and interesting on their own and I can't wait to read their stories!
How have I never read any of Em Petrova's books before (especially since I'm on her mailing list?). I am almost upset with myself that this is her first book that I've read and now I find out there's a whole West Protection series?? With more of these Abel brothers (I presume?)?? I must have been living under a rock.
Anywho, I volunteered to read this book from Booksprout and it was such hardship reading it. As in, I found it hard because all I wanted to do was read the book but no, I could only do so inbetween my daily life. Lol!
Help, I have a bomb! Clay Lexis has done it all, military, police, bodyguard and now he’s leading SENTRY, a joint team with the FBI and West Protection…BUT… so far he’s the only one on the team! Clay’s tracking some freaks that are planning church bombings. So far he’s taken one down, don’t know how many more people are involved but Clay needs sleep. Lark Steele wants to be a reporter but in her small town, there aren’t a lot of openings so she’s freelancing from the app “Quick Bunny” doing deliveries and running errands. It pays the bills. Lark's latest pickup is a large heavy box. She’s strong but… when she opens it to see about dividing the load she finds a bomb! What the heck!! Lark runs to her older brother’s friend Clay to help her figure out what to do. Clay wants to take over hauling this dangerous package but Lark insists on staying with him so they embark on…get-the-heck-out-of-town! All of the “help” Clay has been promised falls apart leaving them on their own, hiding with a bomb they don’t know anything about. Clay and Lark develop a connection that Clay tries to ignore but Lark won’t let him. When he gives in, Clay shows Lark just how awesome a “silver fox” can be. Toward the end of the story Quaide Livingston- FBI shows up to help Clay and Lark. Julius and Jennings Wynton, freelancers, pop in and out of the story too. I received an advanced copy of this story from Booksprout and these are my thoughts. Linda
Clay Lexis is a former state trooper. He also used to work for WEST Protection. He was offered a job heading the joint terrorism task force in his home state of Colorado. Right now, he is a one man show. He is supposed to have the support of the FBI office but can only trust his friend Quaide Livingston.
Lark Steele has had a rough life. Her mother died of an overdose. Her brother Andrew is the only one she trusts to have her back. He made sure that she got a college degree in journalism. He is currently in the military. Lark is trying to be a reporter but supplements her income by running errands for people. She takes a job delivering a box from one location to another. It turns out the box is super heavy so Lark peeks inside. It is a bomb. The only person she knows that can probably help her is Clay Lexis, an old school friend of her brother Andrew who just moved back to town.
Will Clay be willing to help Lark? Will he be able to safely get the bomb diffused? Who is behind the bomb? Can Clay get Quaide, Jennings and Julius Abel to help him and join the Sentry group? Can Clay keep Lark safe without developing feelings for her?
I can't wait to read more of the books in this series.

This was a great start to the author’s new series, West Protection Sentry, a joint terrorism task force based in Colorado . Clay Lexis will become the leader of the group . He’s got the experience since he is former Army, an ex-cop, as well as a former bodyguard. Clay is happy with his life of undercover work and is looking forward to stopping the domestic terrorism that is growing in Colorado. Whom he never expected to barge into his life is Lark Steele. Lark is trying to be taken serious as a reporter, but she needs to eat, so in the meantime she works as an errand gal. All seems well until she realizes that her latest package she is to deliver is a bomb! The only one she believes that can help her is her brother’s older childhood friend, Clay Lexis. From the moment they meet the action and the blooming attraction takes flight. Feelings of insecurity, age gap, and a less than stellar past come into play in the lives of these two. The plot is engaging from the first page to the last in this action packed romance. The main characters are well developed and likable. A winner of a story and one that leaves this reader anxiously waiting for book 2. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Booksprout. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
The first in a new spin off series from Em Petrova Long Arm of the Cowboy hits all the boxes. Fast paced, funny, sexy I just couldn’t put this one down.
Clay Lexis leaves West Protection to lead the new Sentry division. He doesn’t regret that choice but he is starting out on the ground running. The knock at his door bringing a bomb not completely unexpected. Lark at his door will change him forever.
Lark Steele couldn’t believe what she was asked to deliver. Only one person comes to mind Clay Lexis her brother’s old friend. He was always hot and now the Silver Fox is beyond yummy. She can only be her and she love’s getting under his skin.
Clay’s past and their age difference it a huge wall for him. Lark just can’t stop wanting to be close to him. As they try to stop the newest bomb threat, they learn life can throw great curve balls. Their chemistry was off the charts. The banter back and forth had me laughing through the whole book. Larks’ fun teasing attitude is a great offset to Clay’s more skeptical outlook. They have become my favorite couple in the West Series I am so excited to see what else this author has to offer in the Sentry series.

Long Arm of the Cowboy is the first book in Em Petrova’s new WEST Protection Sentry series. It is an amazing age-gap romance filled with suspense, sizzling chemistry, interesting characters, and a fantastic storyline.
As the head of the new joint terrorism task force in Colorado, Clay Lexis is looking forward to the new challenge. However, he wasn’t prepared for Lark Steele to storm into his life with her explosive personality and a bomb in the trunk of her car. Together, they work to uncover the plot and enemy behind to bomb, but will they survive the threat in order to get their happily ever after? Read it and find out!
A fantastic start to Petrova’s new WEST Protection Sentry series. The author does an amazing job introducing the sub plot for the series as well as introducing the characters that will comprise the Sentry Team. Lark’s sweet and stubborn nature is a great balance against Clay’s serious and dominant personality. They brought out the best in each other. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the explosive chemistry between Petrova’s characters, as well as the detailed and steamy scenes she describes between them.

4.5***** stars Interesting start for the new WEST series. Although that is not exactly clear. Starts out with Clay starting Sentry with an employee of one, him. He is working on a lead for a church bomber. He is crashed from being up for too many hours and inhaling caffeine until he is jittery. Now he has company banging on the door. Lark works for a delivery and errand service, Quick Bunny. She figures out that her last pickup was a bomb. Now she needs help. Clay is the best friend of her older brother who is still in the military. She doesn’t know anyone else that would help her. Clay has a connection at the FBI to get the bomb squad to pick it up before it detonates. They are rerouted before they can make it there and the suspect they have gets broken out while in transit to jail. Now Lark wants to be an honest reporter, has a high IQ and is very perceptive. Can’t have a romance novel without a love story. This one is actually funny because there is a large age gap and she is forever needling him about his age. It’s not a favorite story at this point because the players are being placed in their roles. But there is hope. She has written great stories in the WEST series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy.
This author is an absolute favorite of mine. I think I own all of her books and have several on pre-order!
This is an excellent start to a series. I loved the dual POV format. Getting both of the main characters’ thoughts really helped me to understand and connect with them better.
The dialog between these two really had me cracking up over and over again. I just loved how Lark would throw all of those zingers at Clay. There should be a warning to wear Depends while reading this (especially for old ladies like me!!)
Lark is a young struggling woman. She works for a service called “Quick Bunny” doing various delivery services to make ends meet. She gets a request to deliver a heavy crate to an address. The crate is very heavy and she lifts the lid and discovers a bomb. An old friend of her older brother is back in town and she knows that he can help her.
Clay is 40 with some pre-mature gray (in just a few places at his temple). Lark with her spunk calls him a “silver fox”. Let the zingers start to fly. These two characters just made for a great fun read. I adore how they played off of each other.
This is a very sexy read so just a word of caution.
Lark Steele, a younger sister of an old high school buddy careens into Clay Lexis' life completely unannounced and with a great problem as he is offered a new job position leading a new job position leading a new terrorism task force called Sentry - part of the West Protection Group. This book is completely filled with raw, gritty emotion between a younger woman and an older man who was once a family friend. There are sizzling, emotional, intense feelings that surface immediately between Lark and Clay when they meet again. Lots of surprises with this book - lots of twists and turns that keep you grounded by other books from the West Group and previous must reads. This book is spontaneous, passionate, exciting and accepting - all at once. This series gives Cowboys a good name and fans of true romance hope that are lots more books in this series to come. A great read that is a womans fantasy come to life. There is drama, suspense, romance and sex. A great book that is erotic, physical and fun. Look forward to the next book in the series. Great read.

This was a quick read for me. It was an age gap, brother’s friend, romantic suspense with plenty of humor thrown in. It was a great start to this new spin off of the WEST Protection series.
Although this was a romantic suspense, I found it to be pretty lighthearted. There was more humor than suspense and I loved that. Lark came off a little naive, especially considering the life she’d led. But that ended up being the perfect combination for Clay Lexis, the broody, ex-military, ex-cop, former bodyguard, who was heading up a new task force, of 1 at the moment, in Colorado.
Lark was the sunshine Clay needed in his life. She spent most of the book goading Clay about his age, his broodiness, his seriousness, and everything in between. Their chemistry in the bedroom, and out of the bedroom, was undeniable, but both Lark and Clay had learned to keep their hearts guarded and it took some time for them to both fully let down there walls.
There was the perfect amount of suspense in this story. And a good amount of world building to establish Clay’s new task force. It was the perfect beginning for WEST Protection Sentry.
This is book one in the WEST Protection Sentry series. I will be honest, I have not read the West Protection series, it is not needed to read this but I look forward to it. Cowboys, need one say anything else? Clay Levi's is now starting his own crew, nothing like trial by fire as he hits the ground running in his home town with a contact in the dark web looking to bomb a church. Lark Steele is making it in her own, not glamorously, but she is holding her own. She delivers stuff for folks as an employee for Quick Bunny. Someone uses the company to pickup and deliver a bomb. Lark is the lucky driver. There is enough back story to get a good idea on how these characters connect, I love the banter between Clay and Lark, Lark's quick wit and sass keeps Clay on his toes and then some. It made me laugh. Alot of sparks and steam as well, just in case the suspense and twists weren't enough. I look forward to more. Enjoy!.

I tend to avoid many of the age-gap romance stories but this one was perfect! The way the age difference was handled was so funny and you almost forgot there was an almost twenty-year difference in age. Clay Lexis has just been handed what he hopes is his dream job, but he then finds out all the things that don't come with the job, like staff of any kind. Lark Steele is a determined young woman and reporter who has had a tough upbringing but that hasn't let her enthusiasm for life jade her. When her job as a delivery person sends her to pick up and deliver a bomb, she reaches out to Clay who was her brother's childhood friend. Much to Clay's dismay, she latches on and insists being part of the investigation into who is distributing bombs. The progress of their relationship is masterful to follow, and you can't help hoping that they get their HEA together and hope they don't end up being blown up together.

Lexis and Lark's story is the start of a new series WEST Protection Sentry that spins off the WEST Protection series. I'm so happy to see Clay get his own story, he's been in multiple books of the original WEST Protection series, helping out where he can when he was a state trooper and later taking a job working for WEST. Clay has left his bodyguard job at WEST Protection in Montana to head up Sentry, a joint task force team located in his hometown in Colorado. He's growly and protective of those he cares about but is jaded thanks to all the years he spent in law enforcement, and has let a bad past relationship define him. Lark is bubbly and friendly, she had a tough childhood yet she tries to see the good in people. Lark and Clay are polar opposites. Clay doesn't do relationships but he can't help but be drawn to Lark and want more time with her. She wants to help and he wants to put her somewhere safe. Steamy, fast paced, age gap romance. Can't wait to read more in this series.

Clay and Lark have been in each others orbit for years well years before; being the she is the younger sister of his best friend from high school. Clay wants to do his job which now includes protecting Lark but he did not count on falling in love at the same time of protecting her and trying to solve the bombing problem they are both ensnared in.
Lark pushes Clay's button all the time..if it is not words, it is actions and if nothe prioe it is something..a look, a smell, even a glance. And the same goes for Lark. In the process of trying to solve the bombing problem, Clay has to staff Sentry and he gets that from a friend and former supervisor, and the twin brothers of a former coworker and of course alark as support.
This entire book is a great introduction to the series and it will have you laughing outloud to Clay's inner dialogue.
Yep, Em I am hooked!!!!.

This is a great start to a spin off series related to the West Protection series (if you haven't read that series do yourself a favour and read it though it isn't necessary to enjoy this latest series) Lark Steele wants to be a reporter but her name isn't established enough so she needs a second income so she works delivering parcels This puts her on a path to reconnect with Clay Lexis when she realise her latest delivery is in fact a bomb. Clay ex army, ex cop and recently working with West Protection as a bodyguard is heading up the FBI's latest operation SENTRY. He is tasked with bringing down terrorists but he didn't expect a phone call from his friends younger sister telling him of a bomb. Now the terrorists are after Lark and Clay will do whatever he needs to keep the woman he has fallen for safe. Like all of Em's books this is a fast paced story that will totally pull you in and if you start it late enough you will be reading until the early hours of the morning.
Clay Lexis is back in his hometown in Colorado heading a task force, but it's not like he remembered it, as the factories closed, and a lot of people without jobs if they stayed...Lark returned to town after college, wanting a job at the local paper, but no openings, so she is biding her time working as a delivery person for people needing errands run...but when she has a bomb to deliver to another house, she calls her older brother's school buddy Clay Lexis...Lark looks vaguely familiar but the much older version of the little sister always tagging along with Andrew was stunning...and sassy...and teased him constantly when she insisted that she was responsible for the cargo now residing the bed of the silver foxes' truck...with chemistry off the charts, you have to read this story to see what happens...

Clay has been assigned to head a new group to protect against terrorism but so far he's the only one in the group. Lark is working on getting a job in journalism but no one is hiring so she's doing jobs for Quick Rabbit delivering items to people. This time she's tasked with delivering a heavy box that she can barely lift. She glances in the box and finds a bomb! She decides to go to her older brother's friend, Clay for help. Clay tries to get her away from the danger but she won't leave. She keeps goading him that he's ancient since he's fifteen years older but they still are attracted to each other. The more they are in danger, Clay tries to protect her. He gets help from his previous employer, WEST Protection. As they get closer to figuring out where the danger is coming from, they start falling for each other. This is a great book. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
The last time Clay Lexis saw Lark Steele was before he joined the Army. Years later, he has been working with the law in various positions, the current one leading FBI’s Sentry, the startup task force of one. Working undercover, he takes down ringleader while in the process of arranging the bombing of a church. After he crashes from lack of sleep while undercover, Clay is awakened by Lark, his best friend Andrew’s baby sister who happened to be working at Quick Bunny, a hot shot service, beating on his door. Unfortunately, the job she just picked up happens to be a bomb. When she called the local inept police department for help, she was given all the information needed to contact the ‘undercover’ agent. After a series of problems trying to get help to diffuse the bomb, Clay learns the bombers are after Lark so they find a safe place to go until they can get help or so he believes... Now Clay is in a race to defuse the bomb and keep the woman with whom he has come to care for safe.

I really enjoyed this first book in Em’s new series WEST Protection Sentry. When Lark discovers she’s been hired to deliver a bomb, she calls the only person she knows who can help her, her brother’s friend, Clay Lexus, who she hasn’t seen since he joined the service as did her brother. What unfolds is a story of danger, suspense, plenty of humor, an age/gap romance with passion and a man who vowed to never commit to a woman again. The characters were wonderful and very believable. Lark was such a delight. Even after a tough childhood and growing up with an addicted mother, a father in prison and then her mothers death, she had an upbeat attitude with everything she did. Loved Clay and Lark’s story.

This was such a great series opener and the character interactions had me giggling or fanning myself by turns ;D Lark works for an errand service company and ends up getting a bomb to deliver... She heads right to her older brother's buddy, Clay, to get help with it. He's quite the silver fox and she's hot for him...good thing since he's hot for her, too ;D These two have action and danger swirling around them as they try and figure out who's behind it. With their chemistry and witty banter distracting them, it's tricky to know if they'll survive this investigation. There is definitely healing and tough pasts to deal with, a smoking hot age-gap romance that also hits the brother's friend and grumpy/sunshine tropes beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next to come out :D
