Priest #6

Priest, Volume 6

Rate this book
Hundreds of years ago the priest and witch hunter Betheal Gavarre tried the heretic Vascar de Guillon in a secret court. What he realized too late was that when Vascar claimed to be the fallen Archangel Temozarela, bent on corrupting the race of man, it was neither lie nor madman's rant. In order to contain Temozarela, Betheal drew from the lore of ancient cults to create the Domas Porada, the Matrix of Silence. The Vatican investigators sent to investigate Betheal found no sign of him or his creation―the fallen priest and fallen angel disappeared from history. Until now... In a forgotten abbey in the wastelands of the America's old west, the Domas Porada has been found, and a band of researchers try tirelessly to open it, not knowing the evil it contains.

Reviewing my reads from years past, I felt that I've outgrown this title. Thus, it is among the first to join my first ever Culling, in the hopes to free up valuable shelf space for more important and worthwhile books.

Lucifer's Mike Carey gives an introduction to this volume claiming Priest "is currently evolving into one of the most enthrallingly unpredictable stories in the entire [manga] medium" Its an introduction this series so richly deserves! It really has moved far beyond the gothic spaghetti western hellsing rip off it seemed at first.

We have a multi-layered and multi-time period narrative ultimately about testing of faith. The artwork is stunning, the story complex and the pain of the characters, as they are sent over the edge moving.

This volume finishes off the history of how Beheal becomes possessed by Belial and traps himself in the Domas Porada with Temozarela. It them moves forward into Issac's flashback story - how he's manipulated by heretical priests into opening the Domas Porada by the sacrifice of his beloved adopted sister. The ending is something straight out of Clive Barker's hellraiser, chains and all.

Fast becoming one of my favourite manga series.

Well this volume goes with the favourite volume list in the series with 1 and 4.
Finally the scene in details that started Ivan's misery in this volume. I was really happy with the plot and the art. can't wait for the new time line or the go back of the time lines that's been cut off in volume 2 or 3.

It makes me sad that this isn't a well-known title. I bet if it was out in American comics it would have such a following! What happens when the Domas Porada is finally opened? Bad stuff. Such bad stuff. Love this series!

Love this series. Unfortunately, the publisher went under. I just found that the next books are selling at quite an inflated price. Oh well.
