"I knew I wouldn’t be strong enough to resist her anymore." Our parents wanted us to spend quality time together, but I’m not sure this is what they meant….
Cruz As the goalie of the Miami Inferno FC, it was my job to keep everyone scoreless. So how did I end up being the one that couldn’t score?
The answer: Lily Harris. My step sister, and apparently my new roommate. My dad thought I could keep an eye on her and protect her while she was in Miami.
But Lily and I weren’t exactly one big happy family. There was a reason I had barely spoken to her since the day our parents got married—a secret I would never tell.
Admittedly, having her there wasn’t so bad, though.
Not once we worked out a few issues. She even agreed to help me out and be my fake date to a dinner.
But that night changed everything.
My scoreless nights were over.
I just had to hope our parents didn’t find out. Because I would definitely be grounded for life if they knew the things I was teaching my innocent and overprotected little step sister.
Tropes and details: Dual POV, faced paced, step siblings, forced proximity, slow burn, fake date, soccer star, v FMC, HEA
Scoreless Nights is book 2 in the Miami Inferno FC series, it’s able to be read as a standalone I Absolutely loved this one!! I devoured this book so quickly and definitely didn’t want it to end. I ADORE CRUZ MARTIN, he’s easily got my heart IYKYK it was a slow burn at the start but totally worth it. So grateful for the ARC opportunity of Scoreless Nights by Katie Rae
Can’t wait for book 3 in Miami Inferno FC series
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: ▪️slow burn ▪️forbidden relationship/taboo ▪️pro soccer player ▪️forced proximity ▪️found family (or actual family 😂) ▪️fake date ▪️virgin FMC
Sooo the H is a manwhore and that scene in the bathroom with OW 🫤 was not necessary. It only makes him sound selfish (he wanted to get off and didn’t care about her).
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This series is shaping up to be one of the spiciest sports romances I've read! MUY CALIENTE!!
“Let me kiss you, Lil. Let me take away what he did. My lips. My taste. My tongue.”
I DID NOT KNOW I COULD SWOON THIS HARD!! Cruz is everything I didn't know I was waiting for. I was not expecting how sweet he ended up being or the capacity of his love and compassion. He was definitely the sexy dirty talker I knew he'd be, though!
And Lily, I would love to be friends with her! She's such a genuinely nice person. Seeing her come into her own and learn about herself was so empowering.
The spice? Once Cruz got his hands on Lily IT WAS GAME ON! Years of built up lust and sexual frustration had me begging to learn soccer too. IYKYK!
The forbidden aspect wasn't as prominent as in other maybe more taboo romances; instead the stepsibling jokes had me rolling!
I LOVED this book so much! This book is the second in the Miami Inferno series and I ATE IT UP, it can be read as a standalone but I HIGHLY recommend reading the series in order because we get glimpses of the couple in the first book. Reckless goals was my first soccer romance, and continuing with first Scoreless Nights was my first step sibling romance and let me tell you, I could not get enough of it. I loved the banter, the enemies to lovers aspect and Cruz was just so deliciously written that it made this yet another a 5 star read for me. Katie Rae is definitely becoming one of my favorite authors because I have yet to be disappointed. The plot, character development, banter, and forbidden romance aspect of this made this book chefs kiss.
Cruz and Lily's parents married when they were young but never quite became the "siblings" their parents wanted them to be, they constantly forced family time when Cruz would come into town to visit from Miami. Visit after visit the gap between them reinforced and they never seemed to build a relationship of any kind, they only tolerated each other for the sake of their parents for years and years. Until Lily had interviews scheduled in Miami where Cruz so happened to live, so what did their parents do? They asked him [more like forced] Cruz to let Lily stay with him in his apartment, but whatever control and restraint Cruz had wasnt going to last having Lily so close.
"It may have finally been time to admit that I had issues when it came to Lily. Ones that I constantly thought I could control, and never seemed to get a grip on. She would always be the girl that looked like an angel from heaven, but would send me straight to hell. or the timeout chair in the corner of my dad's living room.
Cruz hated the idea of having Lily so close to him, but that didnt last once they spent some "forced sibling time" together just like their parents always wanted them to.....
"You hated me..." "I hated how you made me feel. and when we got older, I hated that I couldnt have you. And now, I hate that you're sleeping across the apartment, and I'm supposed to act like none of those feelings ever existed" "You hated me," she repeated, only with less conviction. She was going to have to mull that over because I was done resisting her....
I cannot recommend this enough! Thank you to Katie Rae for allowing me to be part of the ARC team for this release in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book which was quite refreshing. The taboo aspect made the tension and spice so much better, but then again I’m a sucker for a step sibling romance. I enjoyed that this wasn’t bully though (I find most step sibling ones are) and that rather they just avoided each other for so long due to the feelings between them and the forbidden relationship.
Lily goes to stay with Cruz while interviewing for jobs and they’re forced to face their feelings. I loved seeing Lily come out of her shell and Cruz unable to hide how his heart has always belonged the her. Considering he was a complete playboy I was glad to see him stop and give all his focus to Lily.
The SPICE in this book is everything. It took their relationship to a whole other level. There really isn’t a third act breakup and the conflict resolved pretty quickly which is nice. Lily had been keeping a secret from Cruz that he needs some time to come to terms with (2 weeks, ish) but I think it was needed for them both. Cruz was always in her corner and it was inevitable that he would find his way back to her.
I do wish that Lily had a bit more of a backbone. I hated seeing her constantly being treated bad or putting herself in high stress situations with people who didn’t deserve her time. No friends are better than bad friends. Other than that though, I adored them both and Cruz will be a top tier book boyfriend for me for a while. The candy bar? The tattoo? The pictures!? He was amazing!!! Highly recommend this read.
This was a fun read! Thank you The Author Agency and Katie Rae for the arc!
I really liked the banter between these two, it’s awkward between them at first but we see them quickly try to become friends and slowly but surely become more comfortable around each other.
There’s one reveal towards the end that I think would’ve added more plot had it been told to the reader and explained/depicted throughout the book but at the same time it was still good!
There are certain things that at the beginning seemed like it would play a bigger role that doesn’t really like a certain friendship but honestly I didn’t mind cause it was still fun to watch play out.
Overall this is a quick easy read with low stakes but still a splash of some angst and a lot of tension and spice which as always is fun to read.
A Step-sibling romance story. Are you intrigued? I most certainly was and not disappointed either. “Scoreless Nights” by Katie Rae is Book 2 in the Miami Inferno FC series.
I don’t know anything about soccer. But I know spice! And “Scoreless Nights” had it as well as a sweet story, with a touch of angst thrown in. Cruz and Lily are step-siblings. Cruz’s dad married Lily’s mom when they were in their teens. Cruz was often absent during that period growing up, so Lily doesn’t know him well despite their family wanting everyone to be close. Now an adult, Cruz is a famous pro soccer player and quite the “player” among the ladies.
Their parents are incredibly protective of Lily and want Cruz to keep an eye on her when she moves to Miami. She temporarily moves in, and those feelings that Cruz thought he kept at bay come up again, but in full force this time.
I’m usually not a fan of the timing of an MMC that is promiscuous as they pursue and hook up with the FMC. That is, they are *ho-ing around, see the FMC that night or the next day, ho’s about again, but she’s still on his mind, and he can’t get her off his mind. Cruz is a player, and Author Katie Rae writes him well, but she also writes a believable transition and why he is the way he is.
I did read “Scoreless Nights” as a standalone. But now I have every intention of reading Book 1 and waiting for Book 3. I’m very much looking forward to it!
I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
*There’s nothing wrong with ho-ing around. These are my opinions that no one reads. You do you🤗
Blurb: Cruz & Lily are step siblings, however, Cruz wasn't around much as he lived in Miami with his mom. They didn't like each other though, & dreaded when they had to be around each other. Now, 6 years later, Lily has some art job interviews set up in Miami, & their parents want her to stay with Cruz. Neither liked the idea, but felt there was no getting around it. They agreed to start over shortly after she moved in, & became friends... then more than friends.
Cruz: Cruz is a pro soccer player in Miami & is very well-known. He visits his dad & step family every so often, but he lives in Miami with his bio mom. Anytime he & Lily were around each other when he'd visit, both avoided each other at all costs. But truly, Cruz was attracted to Lily, & he did everything he could to not slip up or be around her. When he was asked if Lily could stay with him, he didn't like the idea, but was kind of anticipating it, as well.
Lily: Lily was an art major in college & loves to sketch; however, it is hard to make it as a sketch artist, so she went into art brokering. She eventually set up some interviews in Miami, far from home, in hopes of getting a job in art that was more of what she wanted to do. Cruz, her step brother, lives in Miami, so their parents figured it would make since if Lily stayed with Cruz so he could keep an eye on her for them. Less than thrilled, Lily reluctantly agreed.
The Spice: Cruz & Lily's chemistry was *phew*. For Cruz, at least, he had always thought of Lily less-than-brotherly, & had slept with tons of women to forget about her, but when Lily moved in, he had no desire to sleep around anymore. The fake date really brought them together, & it wasn't fake to them & they didn't have issues "acting" the part either, which I loved. The spicy scenes were hot af, & I didn't want to stop reading haha.
Final Thoughts: I absolutely loved this book. I really, really love forced proximity, especially when it's roommates, so I knew I would probably love this book! I loved Cruz & Lily's newfound fondness of one another, as well as reading about the progression & growth in their relationship. I also liked that Lily's overprotected-ness was eventually explained & very realistic. Toward the end, it seemed almost like a 3rd act break up, but it wasn't so that was nice as well!
I wasn’t expecting to love this one as much as I did, about a quarter of the way through I was already obsessed, even though usually a slow burner makes my mind wander, this one definitely did not 😱👌🏼 everything was just so good that I wanted more no matter what that more was, whether it was spicy or not, I just wanted anything it could give, so I guess you could say this book had me by the balls ⚽️
“𝙊𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨.”
I just want to put it out there, Cruz, at the start, was a bit of an a** - enough so for me to make a note of it; but give him a chance because he knows how to flip the script 😮💨👌🏼
The suspense of Lily’s secret, had my mind coming up with all sorts, but that twist got me good. I never saw it coming and then everything after the fact was just shy of perfection… until the football moment at the end… that WAS perfection literally. I’d love to come up with a good football pun for that moment, but I’m still too flustered from how hot it was 🔥 Cruz is most definitely a ‘keeper’ and when it comes to Lily his scoreless streak makes him the perfect man to teach her how to ‘play’ 😏⚽️😉
*please note Cruz is the type of man that will teach her to take him deep but not expect her to kneel on the floor… and that’s most definitely swoon worthy 😮💨🫠👏🏼
✨Book Review✨ Scoreless Nights By Katie Rae ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️|🌶️🌶️
Ok so I loved Reckless Goals, and Rhys and Ash. I loved them and thought they were amazing, but that being said…Cruz and Lillian took the cup (soccer pun. Sorry not sorry) on this one! I adored these two❤️
Since their parents married they always resented each other. They never seemed to like each other or wanted to be in each other presence. Years pass and Lil is moving to Miami so Cruz’s dad insists on Lil staying with him. Being in a forced proximity things are bound to happen and heat up..I mean they are in Miami after all 😂
I devoured this book! We got a look at Cruz, in Reckless Goals and I just couldn’t wait to read his story cause he just seemed so funny!
Lil treated him like a normal person since she grew up with him and she never feel at his feet cause of his status as a pro soccer player. She never even wanted her friends to know she knows him cause she didn’t want them to use her to get to him. He didn’t treat her like a fragile girl like her parents did. He treated her like she always wanted to be treated, like she was a fragile piece of glass❤️
I love how they became friends after years of them resenting each other! Once they crossed that line, there was definitely zero way they were going back! The spice was…how would Cruz put it?! Muy Caliente 😂
Also, Jackie and angel were b**ches. Not sure why angel got mad about Lil knowing Cruz?! But I’m glad Lil kicked them to the curb😂😂
Cruz is swoon-worthy and I love him. He was sweet and dirty and thoughtful and just he had it all. Ok, That is all!
(EN) First book I read from this author and I really liked it. It's the second book in the Miami Inferno FC series but it can be read without having read the previous one, that's what I did. And yes!!! The male character plays soccer, more precisely he is the goalkeeper of an MLS team. There are several scenes where the sport is the main subject and they are very well written. In this story we find a forbidden romance since the characters are stepbrothers although they haven’t been closely related. She (Lily) has to go to Miami for some job interviews and her mother convinces her to stay at Cruz's house and well... everything gets complicated, or not.... I have to say that he is all we want in a bookboyfriend! As we read, it may seem to us that we are missing something until suddenly everything fits in! I must say that the fact that transforms their relationship did not convince me and I found it very light in their way of treating but in general it is a story that closes and is very fun to read. Now I have to read the story of Rhys and Ash! Thanks to Katie Rae and The Authors Agency for given me the ARC!
When I saw that this book had the trope of stepbrother I was a little scared because for me it is a miss or hit and while I was reading the book it was a hit. They are not one of those who grow up together and have feelings, in this book Cruz and Lily are not together, they do not live in the same house and they have almost no relationship between them even though their parents treat them as "siblings"; Lily travels to Miami and thanks to her parents (forced) she stays in Cruz's apartment while she is in job interviews, and as we know they unleash all the tension they have between them and wow, the whole story of these two was one roller coaster and in a good way, I liked that forbidden feeling and the author did a great job at the time of the drama, plus there was something that I didn't see coming almost at the end that left me in shock and that made me like it more .
It was a good read, if you like these tropes, I'm sure you'll love this book, I didn't see much of the step-siblings issue because, as I said, they didn't grow up together, they didn't see each other, and they didn't have a close relationship (besides the "hate ”).
Thanks to Katie Rae and The Author Agency for the arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!
__________
“Get your ass home. The sooner we do this, the sooner I can teach you about soccer.”
Cruz. Martin. Is. The. Sexiest. Book. Boyfriend. Ever. Review over!
I kid. Maybe…
So let me start this review with a disclosure… I despise soccer. My kids have played it. I hate it. I don’t know why but it does absolutely NOTHING for me. Nada. NOPE! We just got a soccer team (I live in the baseball mecca) & I’m one of the few not foaming at the mouth for tickets…. my kids are… I’m not.
With that disclosure out of the way… for Cruz to be on my Mount Rushy of book boyfriends… means he’s next level. When you combine a sexy man with dirty talk in a language that I have a bit of fluency with… I’m done. Add in a bit of forbidden… yep… there goes my night.
Lillian has been overprotected her entire life. She just wants to live her own life. After she graduates college she decides she wants to make that life in Miami… 12 hours away from home.
Cruz is the keeper for Miami Inferno who likes his life the way it is… at least that’s what he lets everyone think.
Cruz & Lillian are step-siblings… don’t make it gross… it’s only a title. The relationship that they had from age 12 & up. Growing up they didn’t have a relationship. So… when Lillian wants to make the move to Miami who else would her parents trust than her “brother”. Little do their parents know… Cruz is the only man for the job in so many ways.
This story can be considered a slow burn but it has a purpose. No you don’t have to wait the entire book for the burn. Katie does make you work for it… but when it happens… dios mío… muy caliente. These two didn’t know what they were feeling for 12 years… and as a reader… I’m glad they didn’t.
There are quite a few feelings that you’ll be in during this book. But just remember that Cruz aka Dirty Sexy Gentleman (my personal name for him) will guide you through all of them.
Oh and by the way… if you’re like me and not a soccer fan… there is one scene that will make you never look at a soccer ball the same way again.
I usually don’t like to read a lot of slow burn books because sometimes there can be unnecessary details but oh boy did this one not disappoint. Lillian lives with her Mom and step dad Ivan after graduating college while she figures out where she wants to set roots at to finally gain her independence & freedom. Acquiring three different interviews in Miami and is so excited to finally meet her friends she’s met online through school. One huge problem her mom and step dad don’t want her staying at a hotel when she can stay with “her brother” her step brother that is. Cruz is not someone she’s close to, she hasn’t seen him in 6 years, and last she remembers they both look at each other with disdain. They both know it will end up in disaster but they both want to please their perspective parents. What they don’t expect is for revelations come to light, unexplored feelings, undeniable attraction, lies upon lies, and secrets revealed. This book had you thinking you had it all figured out but just when you thought you knew something was going to happen or a character is going to reveal a major plot twist. Now I can absolutely say I immediately didn’t like Cruz, he seemed like an idiot, asshole, and womanizer land I didn’t see any redemption but was I in for a treat. Not only did his character development progress as the book carried on also bringing the funny, the hot, the sexy, the thoughtful, showcasing a protector vibe, and the answer to fixing your fragile heart. Will they both give in to temptation and express their feelings and secrets to one another or will they realize they are just meant to be the step siblings that dislike each other? Thank you thank you thank you to The Author Agency and Katie Rae for allowing me the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this release and I can’t wait to read more by Katie!
**ARC REVIEW** Scoreless Nights is book # in the Miami Inferno FC series by Katie Rae. This was the first time I have been introduced to any of Katie's writing and OMG it was so good!!!
My rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🔥🔥🔥
If you like these tropes, you will enjoy reading this book :) ⚽ Step Sister/Brother ⚽ Fake Date ⚽ Forbidden ⚽ Forced Proximity ⚽ Opposites Attract ⚽ Overprotected/ Virgin FMC
Cruz Martin is the star goalie of the Miami Inferno FC and it was his job to keep the opposition team scoreless. What he didn't expect was that it meant he would keep his own personal life scoreless. When his step-dad suggests that his step-sister Lilian Harris moves in with him while she is in Miami for a job interview he wants to say no as he know this is going to be a disaster!
Cruz and Lily have never gotten along because they both have found it difficult navigating their feelings towards each other. Non- sibling feelings ! This created a rift between them and they avoided each other whenever they could. They both also hate it when people call them siblings when they are not blood related. They are only related because their parents are married.
When Lily first moves in, she knows this a bad idea and she also feels so bad that she has to lie to her friends that Cruz is her brother.
Cruz asks Lily to be his date to a sponsorship event and she agrees. That night changes everything between them forever.
I loved reading this book and it was my first step sibling romance storyline. It was so good and I loved the little Spanish lesson 😉
Make sure to add this one to your TBR!
Can't wait to see what Katie writes next!
Thank you to Katie and The Author Agency for kindly sending me this ARC to read and review. This review is my own honest opinion on the book :)
This is Book 2 in the Miami Inferno FC series. The name of the team was the theme of this book!! I tell you the heat was inferno, once it started. The Tropes were : Step sister/brother, Forced Proximity, Fake Date, Opposites Attract, Overprotected/Virgin FMC, Sports Romance and Forbidden.
Cruz and Lily's parents got married when they were in their early teens. Although they didn't spend much time together they despised each other. Then 12 years on, Lily wants independent away from the overprotective parents and live life. She decided to go to Miami, but this is where Cruz leaves and so the parents have asked to let her stay with him for a while. This is a bad idea as the don't get along. The close proximity forces them to come to a truce. Cruz is the filthiest mouthed football player I have come across. And when he says things in Spanish, yeah gets your panties melting. He may come across as rude and so sure of himself he also has a loving and caring interior. This friendship leads to other feelings, feelings they thought they had hidden well. Feelings they shouldn't be having. Can they cross this Forbidden line without a consequence? What are the secrets they both are harbouring? Both characters have great development throughout and is done smoothly. Excellent writing by Katie. You will not look at a ⚽ the same way again. Read and find out why. There was some secrets, drama, heartache, football, love, friends and Spanish steam. I absolutely devoured this book, it captivating my attention from the start. My only reason of 4 star is, (my personal opinion, others may be OK with it) that when a male character is with the female character, I don't like it when they play away with others. Otherwise this book was fantastic. Can't wait to read more from Katie.
#scorelessnights is book two in the #miamiinfernoscseries by @katie_rae_author
Cruz and Lily are step siblings who never had anything in common. Cruz was older, into soccer and lived full time with his mom. Lily was younger, had art and her makeshift family. Neither character was thrilled with their parents getting married but not much they could do. They were strangers more than step-siblings who tried to appease their parents; without having to deal with each other more than necessary.
Fast forward 12 years, Lily is in Miami for job interviews. She’s been sheltered her entire life and is finally having freedom, even with an overbearing mother constantly calling. That’s until it’s decided she stays with Cruz while in town. He was a playboy who didn’t make commitments and lived life on his own somewhat selfish terms. The last thing he wanted was Lily in his space. But the more time they spent together, the more they saw what the other had been hiding. An attraction that shouldn’t be there, but one they were unable to let go of.
Katie did a great job of not making these character cringy. The mutual pining they had was off the charts. It was a slow burn with some twists thrown in. It didn’t feel like they were anything more than casual acquaintances due to the extent in which they avoided each other growing up. I loved how Cruz became protective and possessive in all the right ways while Lily was trying to live her life under her terms. Loved the plot twist and some side characters. Others sucked as people; IYKYK. Definitely recommend this book and series if you’re looking for something different and questionably forbidden.
Scoreless Nights is book 2 in the Miami Inferno FC universe and can be read as a standalone.
Cruz and Lily have always skirted around each other since their parents married each other, but that changed when Cruz agrees to let Lily stay with him while she interviews for jobs in Miami. They begin a slightly taboo relationship and Cruz becomes this fiercely protective, fully dedicated boyfriend. He builds Lily up and makes her this amazing, much more confident version of herself.
If you have read books by Katie Rae before, you know she loves a good twist or unexpected bombshell. She delivers another amazing one in this book.
I loved this entire book. All of it. I would normally hesitate to read a book with a taboo trope, but Katie did a great job setting up their past and it made it a really enjoyable read.
Blurb: As the goalie of the Miami Inferno FC, it was my job to keep everyone scoreless.
🔥⚽️🌴💛 You had me at step-sibling romance… No really you had me at Katie Rae but they’re both equally incredible!!
I wasn’t a soccer romance girly until Katie Rae but I swear that woman could get me to read anything & now I’m a soccer gal for life! & the plot twists she can write… always leave me speechless!
If you love: •Step-sibling romance •Sports/Soccer •Forbidden/Secret relationship •Growth, angst & tension •Dirty talking & emotionally secure MMC •Innocent, overprotective, Virgin FMC •Forced proximity •Fake dating •Slow burn that will keep you hooked
Cruz & Lily are step-siblings who never developed a normal family dynamic growing up & “hated” one another (secretly both hiding their true feelings). Cruz Martin is the goalie for his pro soccer team & Mr Popular on and off the field. All the ladies want him & he’s absolutely a playboy in Miami. Lily Harris is the younger step sister who’s just graduated college & heading to Miami to interview for her career as an artist. She’s innocent & the total opposite of Cruz. Thanks to VERY overprotective parents, she’s forced to stay at Cruz’s & become his temporary roommate. Neither are happy about the situation, but the forced proximity brings out the best in them both!
One fake date can change everything & good grief does it!!
I’m a Cruz Martin fan for life & he’s absolutely joined my top book boyfriend list!! He seriously has my heart (you’ll see what I mean 😘). His tattoo… I screamed 🌺 & the mouth on that man… teaching her the “rules of soccer”. Where do we sign up?
Lily’s secret had my head spinning the entire time (in the best way). Once again, Katie Rae can write the twists & give you everything you never knew you needed & more. Another perfectly written storyline I didn’t see coming (once again). Their relationship growth was my favorite to watch develop and how much the two truly love & connect had my heart swooning.
I can’t get enough of this series & I’m so excited for Twisted Assist (book #3)
Dual POV with the perfect HEA!! Book #2 from the Miami Inferno FC - can definitely be read as a standalone.
This book was absolutely everything I needed and more at this moment. I have always wanted to read a soccer romance before but never really did it but now that I got an email for this ARC I immediately signed up for it and damn!!!
Cruz is literally the definition of soulmate material. His relationship with Lily started so messy but I could just smell the potential romance these two had from the start🥹 the way he talks to her in Spanish had my heart melt and made my head crazy from simping for this man..🤭 and let me tell you his dirty talk??? Damn. My girl Lily is the definition of strong yet adorable woman. She has been trough so much and finally gets to live her life a little in the way that she wants it to and that made me so happy for her. Cruz and Lily fit each other so perfectly and they are literally soulmates in my opinion. The way he cares for her is to adorable for this world and made my own heart melt multiple times.
and did I tell you that this man has a secret tattoo for her??? A DAMN SECRET TATTOO. The way I gasped in my room from shock had my own head spinning. And the marriage proposal?? I’m not even gonna spoil that for you all. The step siblings trope???! It served sooo good. I never read a step sibling romance before so I was really curious to it but it was so much fun I can tell that to you all.
Definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read and recommending this to you all right now!!!
Y’all, I thought Rhys from book 1 in this series was swoon worthy (and he is) but Cruz in this book takes the swoon to a whole other level! I loved this book so much, and when I got to around the 75-80% mark I was so happy that the characters were happy that I just didn’t want to keep going. I wanted to keep them in their bliss forever! Let’s dig in, shall we?
Cruz Martin is the hottest goal keeper in Miami. He keeps all the other MLS teams scoreless, while he scores every night out on the town so he’s *never* scoreless. When his dad asks him to open his doors to his stepsister to come visit while she does some interviews, Cruz couldn’t be more upset.
Lily is the overprotected princess *finally* taking the leap from the nest. She’s been so sheltered her whole life that now she’s a 24 year old virgin. While she doesn’t want to stay with Cruz while she’s in Miami, she 1. Hates making her mom upset and 2. Secretly can’t wait to spend more time with him and get to know him without the “step sibling” dynamic thrown in their faces every 30 seconds. They never really grew up together and the few times they did get together as a “family” they both made it known that they are NOT siblings. After a night of confessions, she asks Cruz to teach her all the things. But while they may be revealing secrets, Lily still has lots of lies she’s holding on to. Will they be too much for Lily and Cruz to overcome? Will their new dynamic be too much for their family to handle?
This is a nice palate cleanser from all the darker and more intense romance novels I have read lately.
It's sweet, cute, happy...low on angst. High on spice.
Lilliana and Cruz met when their parents fell in love and got married. They were 12 and 14 and instantly knew they would never have a sibling relationship. Since Cruz lived with his mother in another state, they had limited contact and as soon as he turned 18 and left to live his life and never really came back. Now years later, Lilly has job interviews lined up in the city he lives in, Miami and their parents have asked him to do them a favor and let Lilly stay with him for a few weeks while she interviews for jobs. He dreads it but agrees.
Lilly has lived her life very sheltered and over protected and she craves freedom and autonomy. While she dreads staying with her stepbrother, she is looking forward to the freedom to make friends, explore and live life outside of the boundaries and microscope she's lived with all her life.
Cruz and Lillian (Lily) … I loved them. Step siblings who had an obvious dislike from the beginning (or did they?) for different reasons. Lily is a severely overprotected girl who has her mom and step dad on her case at all times. Cruz, the now famous soccer player who lived with his mom full time until he was 18 but would visit his dad and stepmom/sister on occasion.
Cruz’s dad asked Cruz for Lily to stay with him while she went out for her job interviews in the same city he lived. It was evident that neither of the siblings wanted that as Lily said she knew people she could stay with or she would stay in a hotel, but none of them were having it.
Their ‘forbidden’ romance began, but there were still some secrets each were hiding until one came to light that could potentially shift their dynamic and have Cruz running for the hills.
Their story was sweet & once their air was cleared in the beginning, things were seen in a new light, and lines were crossed. Lillian wanted freedom from the secret she was hiding that kept those who knew constantly on her case. Once the secret was out, she expected Cruz’s reaction, but of course it didn’t make it hurt any less. But boy did he make up for it ..
But all in all, you will fall in love with these two!
What a read! This book will suck you in from the beginning! Cruz and Lily are so perfect for each other. This is a forbidden romance/step brother-step sister/sports romance. Cruz is a goalie for a soccer team and Lily is an artist. Her mom is married to Cruz’s dad. Cruz lives in Miami were his mom owns a restaurant. He worked for her when he was younger, and he visited his dad from time to time when he was younger. Lily and Cruz never had that brother/sister relationship. Fast forward and Lily is trying to get a job where Cruz lives. Their parents want her to stay with Cruz. They both don’t like that idea so much. Lily would rather live elsewhere. Oh boy, wait til you see what happens! Secrets are kept from Lily’s friends Angel and Jackie, secrets are kept from Cruz, and secrets are kept between them. Their relationship seems to grow between them, but will they act on those feelings. Lily is always telling Cruz that he “isn’t her brother.” The twists and turns this book has will make you keep reading. What secret has Lily been keeping from Cruz? Wait til you find out. How will Cruz react and will this affect what will happen between the two? How will their family react to Lily and Cruz possibly being together? Let’s put it this way, you definitely need to read Scoreless Nights to find out.
Scoreless nights is actually the second book of the Miami Inferno FC series, but it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first book yet, but I definitely want to now.
This book is forbidden, as the main characters are step siblings. They never lived together before because he lived with his mom. But, now 24, Lily moves to Miami and ends up staying with Cruz. Though she hated the idea of living with him, these two started to get along. There was great banter that had me laughing out loud at times.
This was a bit of a slow burn, but the spice definitely hit, and Cruz was quite the talker. There was praise and dirty talk. Turns out, Cruz had always liked her, and with them loving together, it was only a matter of time.
I love Lily. She was so relatable. She also liked Cruz and couldn’t deny her feelings, but since she was inexperienced, she didn’t really know how to express that.
There is also a secret/twist that was revealed, and it only made the book better. It explained a lot of actions by Lily.
I know we’re all in our hockey era, but soccer stars are equally hot and swoon-worthy! This was a great read! Can’t wait to read more.
Thanks to the Author Agency and Katie Rae for a chance to read an ARC of this book.
Ratings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Forbidden Step siblings Soccer star Virgin FMC Fake dating Forced Proximity
“She would always be the girl that looked like an angel from heaven, but would send me straight to hell.”
I was pretty nervous when I started reading this book because of the step sibling forbidden romance. I wasn’t sure if I would be okay with it but it really impressed me and didn’t make me feel as awkward as I expected.
They really didn’t grow up together. They were 12/14 when their parents married and for the next 4 years Cruz (MMC) only visited his dad like a week or 2 out of the whole year and they avoided each other the whole time. When the book starts they haven’t even seen each other in 6 years. I also appreciated that the parents freaked out when they learned of their relationship.
I hated that the MMCs name was Cruz but we learn it’s actually his moms maiden name and what he goes by.
If you didn’t already know, it is a soccer romance and the MMC is the goalie/keeper.
Tropes: Forbidden romance (step siblings) Soccer romance Enemies to lovers Forced proximity FMC is sheltered/overprotected and a virgin MMC screams play boy asshole energy (“scoring every night” Disability/disease representation from FMC (cardiomyopathy)
HEA, no cheating
UGH the tattoos. That made me cry in a good way.
The book is a good length and has a good ending and closure.
I really want to read more of this series now and more from the author.

Rhys Peyton is a professional soccer star who has recently had his heartbroken by the woman he’d planned to propose to. It’s made him angry and bitter and a bear to be around, so in order to distract him and get his mind focused on something else, he was asked to work with Ashlynn Keller. Ashlynn is a senior in college on the female soccer team who’s been distracted with studying but needs to get her head back in the game to maintain her scholarship obligations. The two find their focus alright and a whole lot more…
I’m such a big fan of Katie Rae, and romances like this one are exactly the reason! This is a sports romance with a bit of a twist I really never saw coming but sure made it interesting. I loved so much about Ashlynn. In this book, she was a young woman who had immense gratitude for the people who raised her and sacrificed for her. She had a good head on her shoulders and wanted to work towards a future where she could find security and independence. She was sassy and smart and knew what she wanted in life. Rhys was a sexy dream. He was not a player, knew he wanted a wife and kids, and commitment, and I loved how he cheered Ash on. They were a sweet, fun smoking hot couple.
It was an overall great story I enjoyed very much, and I look forward to more from the Miami Inferno!
These Miami Inferno players really know how to bring the heat... *sweating profusely*
I devoured this book. I knew after Ash and Rhys' book, that this series was gonna be spicy but add instep siblings, forced proximity, AND virgin FMC... Hook, line, and sinker, I was sold.
This was a fast-paced, character-driven spicy soccer romance that hit all the right spots for me. I loved the angsty tension between Cruz and Lillian, who had spent so long shutting down anything close to a sibling relationship, that their dynamic when forced to be roomies at 26 & 24 was anything but functional.
Despite how much much they tried to push each other away/stay away from each other to protect themselves, they couldn't help but care for and protect one another. Cruz saw Lily as the coddled little girl finally ready to grow up and fight her own battles, and Lily saw him as a person, not a famous soccer player to use for her own gain.
Their relationship was sweet and spicy, and although this book was definitely more character-driven, there were definitely moments/scenes that surprised me which I loved. Highly recommend this series, if you can't wait to read Scoreless Nights, don't worry, you can read out-of-order as these are interconnected stand-alones. Enjoy!
I’ve told y’all I wanted to read more new-to-me authors this year and it’s safe to say I loved this one from Katie Rae.
This is book 2, so I’ll definitely be going back and reading Rhys story. I loved this gave me forbidden, step siblings, and soccer, sign me up!!
Right off the bat you feel the tension between these two. You just know there’s more between them, but they can’t admit it seeing how their parents got married.
Seeing how Cruz stays with his mom more and his soccer career takes off they don’t see much of each other. They both also refuse to call each other siblings.
Fast forward a few years and now Lily needs a place to stay while she does interviews for jobs. 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝😊
Cruz has this hard shell but the more he opens up to his true feelings for Lily and excepts they aren’t wrong the more he falls.
Lily has her reasons to keep secrets from her new friends and even Cruz. Living a life with over protective parents she’s trying to find her footing on her own.
What I truly loved was the patience Cruz had with Lily. She was inexperienced in every way (steaming from her being overprotected) but he allowed her to set the tempo of the relationship.
As this is a soccer romance I loved he’s other teammates and can’t wait to read more from this series!
This was such a fun and light read with taboo elements that I loved! This is only my second book that I have read centered around soccer, and I really enjoyed learning more about this sport and the excitement as if I was attending those games right along with the characters. This is the second book in the Miami Inferno FC series but can definitely be read as a standalone!
Cruz and Lily are step siblings but have avoided each other at all costs after their parents get married. Cruz spends most of his time in Miami with his mother, only making necessary trips back home to visit his dad. Lily and Cruz never formed that close relationship their parents always wanted, and it worked well with the premise of this dtory.
Fast forward many years later, and Lily has some job interviews lined up in Miami. Since Cruz lives locally, their parents reach out to him and convince him to let Lily stay at his place while she's down there. Lily's life has been extremely sheltered her entire childhood, and it continues to bleed into her young adult life. So Cruz's dad persuades him to let her stay with him and to keep an eye on her.
But what happens when these two are forced into a close proximity situation? Are they able to keep their distance from each other, or will those feelings they've pushed down and avoided all these years rise back to the surface? The tension, the spice, and the forbidden romance had me eating up the pages. I can't wait to read the rest of this series and to revisit this world when it's released!
