The distinguished dancer and choreographer recalls his childhood in rural Texas, his search for identity, and the individuals that shaped his life and career
Sigh...as much as I love seeing his dance company perform, this book was just not well-written. Because he had a coauthor, I expected a better written product. It reads like a stream of consciousness narrative directly transcribed from various conversations.
I read this book for the content - despite seeing Revelations before, I never took the time to learn extensively about Ailey (shamefully). This book provided an approachable and thorough overview of his life, without being too overwhelming. I understand the previous reviewers' comments about the quality of the writing. This didn't affect me personally. It is written as is Ailey is in a relaxed conversation with the biographer. But again, I read primarily for content, rather than the form.
Interesting autobiography of the amazing Alvin Ailey! It provides background and insight into this dance and choreographer genius. Not the most well - written book, but the content is worth the read.
