In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Jackson Mac Low wrote and had produced two incredibly important plays, works notable in the history of Fluxus art and literature. The first, The Marrying Maiden, was produced at The Living Theatre in 1960-1961, directed by Judith Malina and with music by John Cage. The second, Verdurous Sanguinaria, was performed at Yoko Ono's studio in 1961 and later at George Maciunas's AG Gallery, with Diane Wakoski, Simone Forti, La Monte Young, Iris Lezak, and Jackson Mac Low in the cast.
